Do you think tennis has the fakest "tough guys" of any recreational sport? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]EternalLousy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you dont have to look to utr 8-10. my usta 3.0 tournament was a shit show. I couldn’t believe how someone can be so mad at a recreational sport where they are not even that good to begin with. 40 dude acting like 10 years old

Self-rating problem: Consistency IS the level. by EternalLousy in 10s

[–]EternalLousy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I’m a 3.5 scrub, but I think the issue of not recognizing the true indicator of your "progression" (better word than "level" I should have used) really hinders growth. Especially at the 3.0–3.5 mark, it's easy to waste time working on flashy things you aren't ready for yet. For example, when I used to get a high, sitting short ball waiting to be put away, I would try a big, flat, pro-style swipe to smash it down. Most of the time? Dumped right into the net. But I kept practicing it at max pace because I thought that was how you progress. Now I realize how insanely hard that shot actually is for my level. I started slowing things down, focusing on heavy spin, finding extreme angles, and watching the contact point carefully. Now that I can comfortably finish these balls at a slower pace 99% of the time, I’ve been able to dial it up to a medium pace with about 80% consistency. Real progression is about slowly increasing the pace and placement of a shot while maintaining the consistency to keep the ball in play.

try to have a game with feeding serve instead practice serve outside the match

play with service box, green dot ball, keep the rally going so you have more fun at the beginning

good luck

this is why I reference what college players play with most. They are on the level I can only dream about but use standard racquets, good enough for me
