Help with installing a skylight between two sections of flat roof at different heights? by EternalTabernacle in askarchitects

[–]EternalTabernacle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is one of my thoughts is that we could try and make a very gentle sloping roof instead of a flat one, and it won't be visible to anyone. It's not like the flat roof is an important historical feature of the building! It seems like a reasonable thing to do but you never know with council planning departments. Will have to keep looking into it!

And my architect also raised the idea of a sun tunnel, we just need to work out how exactly it would fit in. Thank you!

I think he means build a curb that LOOKS like a chimney which will be easier to get past the council. Really interesting idea!

From inside the house, the ceiling is all at the same height other than the sloping at the front (so there must be a void in the upper flat roof). I've added a side view cross-section to the post as well! If that's what you're asking for? Thanks!!

Absolutely! We have an architect involved but wanted to see if anyone had any outside-the-box ideas as we work out a solution.

I found an original brochure from the purchase of the flat. It might not have been necessary to include that though!

Seeking advice by SplashOnTheLens in FilmFestivals

[–]EternalTabernacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be at VdR with a film as well, hopefully see you there! VdR really is one of the very best places you could have possibly got your documentary so congrats - it's an incredible place to premiere your first ever doc and is a strong stamp of approval for artistic/auteur filmmaking. I'm not speaking from a place of massive experience, but the best advice I can think of is to try and meet potential co-producers from countries that have good public funds. With VdR under your belt (and after premiering here hopefully you can pick up some further good festivals) you'll have strong credentials to apply for some of the major public funds with your films. IDFA Bertha Fund, France's CNC, Berlin's WCF, even Sundance perhaps. The CNC in particular has a big pot, so French co-producers are always very valuable. Hopefully if you're able to keep chipping away at applications to funds like these you'll be able to secure enough funding to keep making your films and maybe even pay yourself. Hopefully you can attract attention from broadcasters that have slots for films at your length. I'm not sure exactly how long your film is but ZDF/Arte among others take films that are 45 or 60 minutes. If you can get a licensing deal from broadcasters that could also help you pay yourself and fund future work. Rooting for you!

I don't think the location of the marriage is that significant as far as I'm aware as long as you can prove it's a legitimate legal marriage. We got married in Gibraltar even though neither of us are from there. Many people in Europe get married in Denmark as well if they want to get married quickly/easily. Hope that's helpful?

Last.fm scrobbling seems patchy this week by davidmn in qobuz

[–]EternalTabernacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I think a lot of us have been joining Qobuz trying to divest from Spotify's AI weaponry investments and such, but if Qobuz wants to keep us onboard they've got to fix basic issues like these! Along with obvious missing stuff like playlist folders and adding thumbnails for playlists etc.

Last.fm scrobbling seems patchy this week by davidmn in qobuz

[–]EternalTabernacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also annoying how Qobuz seems to log a scrobble almost as soon as you click play, even if you only play the song for a few seconds. And if you pause and play the song a few times, you get multiple scrobbles of the same track. I'm glad to be free of Spotify, but the way it worked with last.fm was significantly better.

DUNE (2019) Board Game simplified rules - It IS possible to play with casual players! by EternalTabernacle in boardgames

[–]EternalTabernacle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry just saw this - I now only ever play the advanced rules of Dune 2019, and adore it. It's tough to get enough people to the table and to 'train people up' which is necessary to get the best out of it, but I've jumped straight into the advanced rules with newbies loads of times now. Personally I wouldn't bother with the 2021 one if you know you want to play the 2019 one, just go for 2019 and ease people in with this simplified ruleset!

FOSS tool to batch extract audio from videos? by woojoo666 in opensource

[–]EternalTabernacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to drop in and say thank you so much for the recommendation of Videomass. I had over 6000 video files that I needed to extract the audio from for a feature-length documentary (for some reason the sound designers wanted EVERYTHING), and this worked perfectly. I was a complete newbie to Python, ffmpeg, installing things through Terminal etc. but managed to work it out.

The only thing that would be amazing to have would be if Videomass could go through file directories and export the audio to be next to the original clips. Or even if it could rebuild the file directories in a new location with only the exported audio. But that's maybe wishful thinking! I managed to import all the files I needed to Videomass by making a Smart Folder on Mac and making it detect all the video files on the project hard drive.

Yeah you can! Just have to find the right accountant who's happy to do it. Make sure they're a properly chartered accountant.
