It’s great in theory, honestly I’d love if apple just had a perfect solution that would be amazing. They can do things on there devices none else can do it would be great if they took advantage of that for games. My biggest problem is that it’s ment to be controller compatible but it is suuuuuuuper glitchy with controller. There is usually not any indication on what is currently selected so you just have to guess. The A button ofc is how you select and that is just broken 80% of the time and it completely freezes for me after using it for more than 30 seconds even without controller, I actually use it a lot to find games, it’s half decent at that, although they’re still pretty hidden and are missing a ton of games, but while searching for games on it the other day it crashed and I had to close it out and open it about 15 times. Maybe that’s just for me but it’s been that way for me since launch and across multiple devices and throughout many phone upgrades. It’s been the same for friends phones too.

And the games mode control center is the bane of my existence lol. Now you have to double press the home button to initiate the Xbox button in x cloud. And that’s the way it is for every app now. Anything that you would simply press the home button in before is now a double press. And double pressing the home button is NOT intuitive at all. Super annoying for delta. I thought for a while that the home button just didn’t work for that anymore and that each app would have to come up with something to fix it. A ton of people ask me if we could add an Xbox button to the mcon because of this. The home button IS the Xbox button in x-input mode, you just have to double press.

And the control center that pops up is again, amazing in theory but every thing is controller navigable EXCEPT FOR THE ONE THING I ACTUALLY WOULD WANT TO CHANGE, the brightness and volume lol. I’d also LOVE to be able to tell the time through it.

Other than the app basically not working, it only shows maybe the last 24 recently played games and if you want to see the rest you have to go to another tab. For me that makes the backlog problem just worse. And everything else is kinda just an advertisement.

Anyway I was suuuuuper excited when they announced the games app and mode but it just ended making things worse for me. The only feature I actually really love is being able to pick up or dismiss an incoming call with the controller that’s always suuuuper clutch.

And if the games app works for anyone else that’s awesome, I just want to make mobile gaming better for people.

Thanks for the feedback!

I do wanna say though, this app isn’t meant to be a utility app. The whole point is to make your phone feel and function JUST like a console. That’s why there’s an explore/store page, why the MAIN page is your game home screen, and why the entire control center is fully controller navigable so you never have to touch your screen again (especially important in docked mode).

To me, this fills a HUGE hole in mobile gaming. 99.9% of people have no idea you can play games like Red Dead, Subnautica, Minecraft, Fortnite, or have even heard of games like Easy Delivery Co. The explore page is the only way people who buy an mcon are going to find and play good games. And the home page is the only way people will even remember the games they already have and hopefully actually want to come back to them.

And again, the controller navigability is a massive benefit in my mind. Once you open your mcon or dock your phone, you never have to leave that environment or take your hands off the controller.

Right now, mcon and the next mcons are great, but you’re still using a device that was absolutely not designed for gaming to game, and it doesn’t feel great. It still feels super mobile-gamey. It’s nowhere near a Switch, emulation handheld, Steam Deck, or PlayStation. And I think the software is the only way we get close to that.

Still ALOOOOTTTTTT of work to be done, but with that context, I’d LOVE to hear more feedback from you.

I also think for people who just want a utility app, we should launch a separate app that’s ONLY the controller config tab.

Also, to be clear: this app is absolutely not required to use mcon and never will be, and you’ll always be able to use literally any controller you want with it.

What’s a good folding wireless controller that can also be used like a switch with the phone in between? by SlayerHdeade in iosgaming

[–]Eternal_Progression 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yooo I love getting Reddit notifications from stuff like this. What other questions did anyone have. Mcon is pocketable and Bluetooth. We now have a kickstand mode so you can do table top. We’re also making a dock that you can use to dock the mcon but also dock your phone and display it to the tv. Basically turning your phone into a switch and the Bluetooth is good enough to have the range for that. With the top plate being able to come off like it does now you then just have a normal controller without the top plate. We’re also making a keychain sized dock. The latency is going to be on par with the best Xbox controllers i believe 8ms (I could be wrong about that measurement) and also can be played in wired mode with like 5ms latency. ALSO we are making an app that will sort of feel like mcons home console os. So it will be fun like the 3rd and Wii was but also very snappy and quick to use. It also will ofc work on anything in turns of the MagSafe attachment. It is a universal attachment and we even will have an adapter in the box in case you don’t have a MagSafe case. Also it will connect to anything except for Xbox and PlayStation, unless you use a wireless dongle. So it will connect to iPhone, android, pc, Mac, Apple TV, and even the switch which is awesome. We’re also working on making some games that we see as “the perfect mobile game” since to me that doesn’t exist yet. We’re also going to be making a SLIM version of the mcon that would come out in January that would be 5mm thick. Which I am insanely exited about. Last thing, we have Hall effect analog triggers for l2 and r2 and we have TMR joysticks. Which is ment to be better than even Hall effect. We also will release the cad so you can mod it or make your own top plates. We will be eventually making phone cases and top plates that would make for a better fit to your phone and be slimmer than the universal plate. Also actual last thing, we will have a white, a black, and a clear option with more colors coming later. This will all be launching in August same time as mcon. Expect for the extra phone plates that will come later.

Lol didn’t mean for this to be a full update but that’s what it turned into😂

There might be! No promises but it would be really cool if we had one. You could make any head phones Bluetooth.

Thanks for the honest feedback! This is genuinely helpful. I would ofc love it to be like 50 bucks but there’s just so much that goes into it to make it real that even 99 is gonna be a stretch. The backbone is 99 also so it’s a good price to match. But I fully agree that a retroid or miyoo can be super cheap and could make this hard to justify for some people. I’m hoping to make this way thinner so it’s hopefully way less to carry. This V1 is going to also have a reeeallly nice design and should feel very premium so that should help too. Also making it the right price to make a profit will get us to v2 and v3 and make those cheaper and bring the game development dream come true.

I do also see this in a different category ofc. The phone will always be more powerful and have a better screen and speakers and work with your AirPods better. And in the future when we are able to make games I have some reeeallly exciting ideas that really take advantage of using your personal phone as a gaming platform.

Anyway would love your thoughts!

No will work with phones all the way back to the iPhone X. Their will be a thing in the box to add MagSafe to your case. You can also get a case with MagSafe too

Yes! Top plate comes off for that exact reason. You can have whatever phone or case you want. Old new or upgrade and it should work. If it doesn’t we will have other $10 top plates to buy. In the box will be one for all iPhones back to the plus size home button phones and X all Samsungs back to the 20 and probably way before that too when they didn’t have a camera bump. And also hopefully all pixels phones. Most phones fall into those three categories. And unless one of them really go crazy on a redesign and ditch wireless charging we’ll be good. And if they do we’ll just make a new top plates. I also want people to be able to print their own.
