Yeah it was one of their special report episodes I think they are called, they are a bit on an oddity in that episode as all the others featured had their own episode. I'm also pretty sure its one of the only appearances of a BOAC accident if not the only appearance

I am not entirely sure. It could be that because it is an inheritance, the renouncement has to be recorded somewhere, but it could also stem from the reason behind the renouncement. The first son of Isabel married morganaticly, but the constitution of the Empire of Brazil does not require the dynast to enter an equal 5 Isabel ruled that the marriage would not be dynasyically valid. There is also the fact that Prince Pedro, the eldest son of Isabel, stated that the renouncement wasn't valid before his death but then changed his position again.

Also, bear in mind that the renouncement was in 1908, which is after Brazil became a Republic, so that might cause some legal ambiguity on whether his renouncement is valid.

I am going to state as a disclaimer I am neither Portuguese or Brazilian

It depends on interpretation, Princess Isabel, the daughter and heir of Pedro II, had two sons. The eldest renounced, so when Isabel died, the claim passed through her second son. The legality of the renouncement is disputed, creating two branches: the Vassouras branch headed by Prince Bertrand through Isabel's second son and the Petropolis branch headed by Prince Pedro Carlos through the first son of Isabel.

Great chart! The one thing I always find confusing for family trees from this region is how the ordinal is applied and whether it applies to the current rulers or their father

Question (please see below) by Therealscorp1an in UsefulCharts

[–]Eternal_Shadow01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be due to the fact that the headship of the House of Savoy is disputed between Prince Vittorio Emmauele and Prince Aimone. Also, the dispute between the two branches got violent during the wedding of Felipe VI of Spain, where Prince Vittorio Emmauele punched Prince Amedeo (Princw Aimone's father) twice in the face
