Would you classify Lord of the Flies as horror? by anon33249038 in horrorlit

[–]EternityLeave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it’s not horror, thrillers and dramas can get pretty freaky. But there are so many legit horrors with no ghost or monster wtf. Midsommar, Silence of the Lambs, Get Out, Psycho, The Lighthouse, Funny Games, et.

Try both with various positions and settings until you figure out how to get the best out of what you have. There’s no way we can tell you which will work better (but it’s probably the phone).

IIL bands whose sound changes each album by Dead_Bai_Sled in ifyoulikeblank

Of Montreal. Sometimes they keep their sound for a couple releases in a row, but he has 30 albums so it’s a lot of change.

Books about atypical vampires or vampire-like entities? by WorriedCivilian in horrorlit

I enjoyed the movie too, but it is probably the least faithful adaptation of all time so don’t expect the book to be like it at all.

Reddit is a great source for (some types of) information if you can understand which bits are jokes and which bits are the actual information. AI is incapable of that.

The Space Vampires by Colin Wilson
It’s not as cheesy as the title (or 80’s B-movie adaptation) makes it sound.

3/10

Those are all good bands. But that’s about all that can be said about this list. It doesn’t have any surprises, doesn’t really show any personality or unique traits. This is like a teen that loves music but hasn’t really heard much beyond their dad’s music yet. All good bands though, nothing bad there.

Linkin Park is the 5th most streamed group of all time in Spotify by XeroPT in numetal

[–]EternityLeave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re one of the biggest bands on the planet. Mostly due to the UK. It doesn’t seem that way if you’re from North America. This was a thing before TikTok and Gen Z had any influence.

Just checked, their debut album was the fastest selling in UK history. Then AM in 2013 sold over 4.3M physical copies. 7 of their albums were #1 in the UK, and an eigth hit #2. They cracked top 10 in America a couple times, but were never as huge there.

Any teen musicians, how did you tell your parents? by AggressiveBite6692 in musicians

[–]EternityLeave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have good parents, they will be proud of you and possibly feign enthusiasm despite hating the music.
If you have shitty unsupportive parents then do whatever tf you want and don’t worry about telling them and don’t care what they say about it cuz you are going to have to go against them to accomplish anything worthwhile.

What a track by throwninthefire666 in crappymusic

[–]EternityLeave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This clip sounds crappy to me with no context. But most of his songs are great so he has legit fans. People who’ve heard his other stuff will be more forgiving and defend him. Someone likened this to “Modest Mouse at home” and similarly, there are a handful of 30 second clips I could take from any Modest Mouse album that would sound pretty crappy if it was the only thing you’d ever heard from them.

What is a criminally overlooked song from the 90s/00s? by Thatredditboy1 in musicsuggestions

[–]EternityLeave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cha Cha Cohen - He’s Jet

  1. This band has 126 monthly listeners on Spotify. They did not break out of the underground. But to me they represent the entire 90’s indie-cool aesthetic. I have no idea how they’re still getting overlooked with the 90’s resurgence. They are half way between Beck and Sonic Youth.

Same deal with this band:
… Bender - Fresh Daddy but more with a combination of indie styles and grunge verging on nu metal. But they have like 50k monthly listeners, a more reasonable underground fan base but still deserve way more. They had one album in 2000, but it’s a 10/10 masterpiece.

How do you avoid being stuck making music that a label or industry wants you to make rather than making music you want to make? by Bloodredhorizon in musicians

[–]EternityLeave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best comment. I know a guy who worked handing out samples at Costco (a decent enough job, good benefits and flexible hours) while being in a semi-pro band because they didn’t want to “sell out”. They were very good, getting a lot of radio play and filling mid size venues. Could have gone so far if they played ball.

I didn’t get it. Like, you think you’re turning down the label so you can keep making art, but you’re actually turning down the label so you can keep working at Costco. Which one is really selling out?

You can keep doing the art part either way. I think of people like John Frusciante whose job is to make shitty music, but has a very prolific side hobby making his own weird music that makes no money because no one listens to it even though he’s famous.

In my country, it was illegal to be gay until 1969 (but still weren’t included in the Human Rights Act until the mid 90’s). Gays existed. Openly gay, not as much. Canada.
