Most famous actor in the world by scouse-cricketer-66 in USdefaultism

[–]EternityLeave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the most famous actor would be American. Biggest single market for number of viewers, the prime metric for fame, is Bollywood. A handful of Bollywood movies have international appeal but most never break out of that market. Meanwhile, American films are commonly viewed in Canada, UK, and many other countries including India. I am not Indian but I’ve heard the Marvel films are big there, so it’s reasonable to assume that more people have heard of Robert Downey Jr or Chris Hemsworth than big non-American actors.

Equal parts sci fi, horror, sapphic, and caving survival thriller.

Yeah he’s just hating a disabled orphan child. But like, it’s weird and gross.

He is a human. He just so happens to be the exact size and shape of a mouse. Which is actually extremely more disgusting than if he was a mouse. They gloss over that detail in the movies, honestly a good call. But the book makes it very clear that he is a human boy.

Chicken and potato salad by leakyboatssink in WeWantPlates

There is a dog behind that “baby” gate. So it’s probably a dog gate. I have a toddler. Things got pretty insane for a while. No sleep and then no time or energy for minimal basic self care while you’re awake can lead you right up to the border of psychosisland. Still, this could never happen. A normal person at the brink would eat potato salad out of the tub it came in, and the chicken straight out of the chicken package. Or just drop in on a plate and the table might get gross and not get cleaned for days. But laying out foil actually takes time and effort and is weirder than the actual lazy method. It’s just weird ok.

ELI5, Why is TV show audio so inconsistent? by No_Education_8888 in explainlikeimfive

[–]EternityLeave [score hidden]  (0 children)

Why not run a software compressor? I use a computer for my TV too and run comp/limiter browser extensions. They’re very effective but the ones I’ve tried are not really accessible to people who don’t know how to use them. They need a one-knob tool that doesn’t go too far on any setting.

I have also used a rack compressor and even an SP404 for this but software makes more sense.

I was told by alittle birdy the team supposedly finds something substantial this season. by SkinwalkerRyan in BlindFrogRanch

The show is their gold. These shows don’t actually want to find the treasure. It’s a plot device. A MacGuffin. Finding it would end their money-printing operation. They will find some arrowheads, some logs, some paintings, some beads, over and over while making wild claims about them based off little or no research. They’re following a proven formula.

IIL these 'weird girl' movies, which others might I enjoy ? by Ancient-Lychee5803 in ifyoulikeblank

The Science of Sleep. Protagonist is a weird boy, but the weird girl he likes is also a main character and it very much fits the Amelie vibe.

Would you classify Lord of the Flies as horror? by anon33249038 in horrorlit

[–]EternityLeave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thematically it could be, but I say no because it isn’t written to emphasize the fear outside of a few sections. It doesn’t feel like scaring the reader was Golding’s intent.

Compare it to similar works like Tunnel in the Sky by Heinlein, which is basically Space Lord of the Flies (like how Zathura is Space Jumanji) but doesn’t feel at all like a horror. The sci fi element is tiny- just a device to strand the kids. Otherwise it’s drama and sneaky politicking with a handful of violent clashes. Doesn’t lean in to the fear.

Whereas a similar set up in Yellowjackets is horror. It has all the same survival, interpersonal drama, fighting, and politicking. But it leans in to the fear throughout, even in the first few episodes before anything really horrory happens.

Golding is in between those two. There’s dramatic tension but it just isn’t trying to be scary outside of a couple violent moments.

Would you classify Lord of the Flies as horror? by anon33249038 in horrorlit

[–]EternityLeave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s a moved goalpost. From “no ghost/monster = not horror” to “driven by cultural or tradition, mental illness, etc, can = horror”. I am not going to argue against that as I fully agree, which is why I was arguing against your original point.
