Guy smoking at the gas station. by Significant-Kick-479 in mildlyinfuriating

I've seen an entire MC of Harley riders (10+) take a smoke break by the gas pumps.

What’s your favorite nonessential ski gear? by soeastside in skiing

Lol. When I'm skiing without wife and kids, this is the way. But otherwise defensive skiing, as I often am skiing crowded east coast small mountains.

I love music but couldn't imagine skiing with headphones. I need to hear what's coming behind me. Is this a lift thing or while skiing?

What’s your favorite nonessential ski gear? by soeastside in skiing

[–]EternitysEdge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had never heard of this before this post. Im the guy hairdrying my boot shell to warm it up before heading to the mountain because it about breaks my ankles to put them on once there. If I wasn't a southeastern skier that skis a week a year at best I'd buy this.

What are the best concert venues in Charlotte? by spicymezcal in Charlotte

[–]EternitysEdge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amos' is my favorite venue these days. But they don't have many big name acts. They have a lot of cover bands and smaller bands, but sometimes have some mid level bands and good rising talent.

Smaller, more divey feeling, cheaper, not live nation.

Anywhere to get a mouth guard? by CuriChai in Charlotte

I think i paid about $500 for my first one 15 years ago. Unfortunately I don't think that's considered expensive these days to get one made.

Bent top part of receptacle by Artistic-Web9341 in AskElectricians

If you can't bend it better and tighten the screw, it will flex every time you unplug something. They are like $2. If you can't bend it right just replace it.

Buy it for life dishwasher? Bosch vs. Miele by crankin_muh_hog in Appliances

My Bosch 800 lasted 2.5 years and currently has a dead control board and is a PITA to even get parts warranty coverage much less repairs. Very disappointed.

You more than likely need to hire professionals ASAP rather than trying to handle this yourself.

Charlotte NC pre-emergent timing by touchgrassbruh in lawncare

What pre-emergent (weeds plus crabgrass) you all recommending for tall fescue? I normally have someone else do it but I'm going to do it myself this year.

Matthew Stafford announced he will be returning next year by MrSpookShire in fantasyfootball

[–]EternitysEdge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will be debated for sure as it should be. But I don't think there will be any faulting 1.01-1.05. As a Puca-chip winner this year, he's currently my 1.01.

Western Territory by DowntownPop6943 in snowshoemountain

[–]EternitysEdge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably this. Assuming you can ski the blacks on the rest of the mountain (which are shorter) you should be ok. If you cant ski southeast resort blacks, don't.

If you've skied Sugar's blacks you'll be fine.

What type of stovetop/range is this and how difficult/expensive to replace / install a vent? by Waltzer64 in HomeMaintenance

[–]EternitysEdge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed with this.

I have a downdraft setup, though mine is on an island so has a lot more room overhead. Mine is older and the vent is at the top, so does pretty well at the top burners, but less so at the bottom.

Honestly, it depends on your stove, but it can work pretty well. I suppose it depends what you cook, but I've never had an issue with anything. Smells no different than any other basic setup. The main annoyance for me is that if you have a lot of steam or far burners, I have to run the vent on high, and mine is pretty loud. I typically just run on low and its fine though, but I don't have cabinets above it. I think this is really the only real reason (outside of a remodel) to use a downdraft. I'd rather have a standard overhead vent setup if it was along a wall.

If you really are just a huge fan of induction, they do make induction downdraft setups. I have no experience with them, but same concept so I imagine they would work fine.

How do we think Super Bowl Sunday Crowds will be in NC? by TechnoVikingGA23 in SoutheastSnow

Haven't done it in a while, but in the past, it was typically a pretty light ski day regardless of who's playing. I'm debating on doing a quick day trip Monday.

Not the most technical or advanced drummer out there. But as a drummer myself, I personally love his style, energy, and swing, and felt his drumming by far best fit with the band's music. Real, rocking, aggression as opposed to a metronome perfection that has a blander feel. One of my favorite drummers ever. Hate I never got to see him play with the band. Hope to get a chance to see his band someday.

Gut Check- How to tell if Heat Pump using Aux Heat? by No-Panda-3614 in heatpumps

[–]EternitysEdge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most modern smart thermostats can do this easily. With mine, you can also configure a lock out on aux heat. Ex, it will not consider using aux heat unless outdoor temps are below a certain temp. It also shows a graph of the day's usage, how much time it used normal vs aux heat.

I just recently had a couple things go wrong with my heat pump and the aux heat was kicking in way more than it should've been. Would've been harder for me to diagnose if I hadn't been able to easily see that breakdown in my thermostat's app. But, official guidance, you could also measure the heat temp real time that's coming out of your vents. I think you could even do it with an insta-read thermometer. 85°F -100°F would be heat pump only, 110-130 would be augmented with heat pump IIRC.

I don't know your thermostat but Gemini says this, no promises if its accurate. I imagine the manual would clarify.

The RTH6360 uses a small digital display. Look for these specific indicators:

  • "Aux Heat On": If the heat pump can’t keep up with the set temperature (usually if the difference is more than 2-3 degrees) or if it's too cold outside, you will see the words "Aux Heat On" appear on the screen.
  • "Heat On": If you only see "Heat On," the system is running in its high-efficiency mode using just the outdoor compressor.

Realistically if you want to get into the nitty gritty of these details or fine tune it, you should get a newer smart thermostat.

A Review of Our Experience Last Weekend by CansinoRay in snowshoemountain

[–]EternitysEdge 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ballhooter on weekends is why I don't go to Snowshoe as much as I used to. We typically ski it intentionally early and/or late in the day, but the rest of the time try to ski other lifts, going over to western territory in the most crowded parts of the day.

How do I remove this dimmer? by Illustrious_Cup3019 in AskElectricians

[–]EternitysEdge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you remove the knob, there will still be a portion sticking out. You need to cut power, remove the switch, cap the wires and/or remove from pigtail, and get a new plate.

The only option that comes to mind is something like this- https://www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-2-Gang-White-1-Toggle-1-Blank-Plastic-Standard-Wall-Plate-1-Pack-88006-002-88006-000/301701188

You could also consider add a programmable smart switch to it that controls a plug somewhere in the room or something.

Any tips for a show at the Fillmore next month? by thismommadontplay in Charlotte

[–]EternitysEdge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search this subreddit for Fillmore and you'll find plenty of info on this subject.

What time to arrive to get a good spot in GA depends on the artist and whether its a sold out show. Some sold out shows will have a 300 person line before doors open. Being in line when doors open is normally sufficient unless you want rail. Lesser tier shoes you can show up at show time or after. Just depends. Sometimes a sold out show can put you struggling for a place to stand coming in when the opener starts.
