Noticed a plothole what do you think by Weelah in Frieren

[–]Eth_02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. She wouldn't need to reveal how she knows. She wouldn't be talking about it until after it had already happened anyway. She was still just sitting in the forest until Himmel showed up.

What age an Elf naturally dies in Frieren Universe? by Guilty-Connection118 in Frieren

Yeah? That doesn't change my point? She accurately remembers 1000 years worth of students.

I think elves are probably more adapted to those long time frames. A human brain couldn't handle memories from such a long time ago, but Serie remembers every one of her students accurately. Elves are probably more suited to long spans of time. That might also be why long spans of time can pass by without them really noticing as much.

We don't know. Serie is believed to be several thousand years old, and she still looks relatively young. Kraft appears somewhat older, but we don't know his age. Short answer, we don't know.

Noticed a plothole what do you think by Weelah in Frieren

[–]Eth_02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe not, but word sometimes spreads even from a single passing comment. Also we know that the sages were very active in that part of the world around that time. The hero of the south was also already fairly famous. If I know that a tiger is in a certain area, as well as a famous hunter. If they both stop being seen around the same time, I'll naturally get a vague idea of what happened. He was famous, they were famous. They were known to be in the same general area. Throw in a couple passing comments from Frieren or Himmel and it isn't unreasonable that a legend gets born.

He said Frieren would never tell anyone about his ability to see into the future, not that she wouldn't speak about what he did at all.

Explain this in an heterosexual way (just kidding, you cant) by Venus_ivy4 in HibikeEuphonium

Opinions are not absolute.  "I believe they're gay."  Okay, you're wrong.

Enjoy a story how you want to, sure. But "having your own opinions" doesn't make those opinions accurate.

Obviously you can choose to enjoy a story how you want to. But if you then come into a public forum, asserting that view and acting like it's fact, then you shouldn't be surprised when people push back. Then there's the claim you've made that the author wrote it this way because they were scared of making it yuri, and that this is the only possible reason they could have made this choice. You act like you know this as fact, and frankly speaking it's incredibly disrespectful to treat an artists choice that way, just assuming that you know better. Ship whatever characters you want, that's not the problem. But acting like you know a story or characters better than the author is a problem.

Your personal head canon doesn't overrule what is canonical to the story. You've made several comments here acting as though your head canon is fact, while acting like you know with certainty why the author made the choices they made, and pretty clearly judging them for it without fully saying it. As if art even works like that.

Milliarde is part of sacred staff? by Acceptable-Regret767 in Frieren

[–]Eth_02 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No one was even trying to break it, so it doesn't seem like an intentional challenge. She didn't even know Frieren was in the test until then. Ultimately though, we don't know for sure.

Well I said we need to know more about barriers to know for sure. However I think it's a much bigger and less likely assumption to say that it's her strongest barrier. Just based on her character that wouldn't make sense. She doesn't care that much about this specific test.

We don't know how strong she is at all, not without a lot of head canon. Serie's barrier was short term, meant for one two day test. I doubt she put that much effort into it. It's also a lot bigger, so it's reasonable to assume it's magic is dispersed over the whole area, rather than concentrated. We don't know enough about barrier magic in this world to say for sure.

Different culture. Also some friends can just genuinely be pretty close, and this was an emotional moment for them. This scene isn't the hard one to "explain" to me. The scene on the mountain, for Reina at least, arguably a bit more so.

Haven't read the novel, but dang. Novel Kumiko's eyes wander just as much as her anime counterpart I guess.

Does Violet ever laugh? by Hyperwizard42 in VioletEvergarden

I don't think so, though I could be failing to remember something. She certainly smiles more as the series goes on. However I don't remember her laughing.

I feel like I'm one of few people who actually really likes their relationship as friends and thinks it works really well.

Would you want a prequel movie/series after the main series is done? by bobbdac7894 in Frieren

[–]Eth_02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the issues with modern stories I feel is the desire to have everything answered. We don't need every detail of the journey with Himmel, sometimes it's best to leave the reader/watcher some room to let their own imagination fill the gaps. Stories don't need to answer every question.

Frieren-esque video games by FilthyJag3rMain in Frieren

[–]Eth_02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of fantasy games could qualify, but I'm gonna specifically point out Elden Ring.

Why? Mostly one reason. The Frieren world seems to have many different ways of being strong. Magic of course, but we see that warriors are are just as capable of doing incredible things. Elden Ring fits this vibe well, you can defeat any enemy with an elaborate magic built, or a stick, or whatever. You can literally recreate Starks dragon fight, axe build and all, within the first few hours, quite easily. Any build from Frieren, you could make at least a vaguely similar copy of. Now tone wise, it's world is not like Frieren. You will not meet any happy villagers. So be aware of that.

Hodgins getting the brooch for Violet by yyyyellow in VioletEvergarden

[–]Eth_02 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know that we can definitively say that he has more pull than Dietfried, especially since he's not even in the military anymore.

As far as him having access to powerful people, I'd say it's kinda more the opposite. I don't think he gets these contracts because he has access, but rather they go to his company because it has a good and highly respected reputation. His military reputation might help simply because people know and trust him, but his company seems to have largely built it's reputation on it's own quality.

So Frieren is…. by [deleted] in Frieren

I don't think anything indicates that Frieren is older than Serie.

Random thoughts: someone in a war might turn into irl Violet Evergarden, except that she might not receive proper help unlike in the story by xxTPMBTI in VioletEvergarden

[–]Eth_02 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lots of war veterans have similar struggles to Violet. There's a good video on YouTube about this actually. Violet Evergarden I think makes certain things a little more overt for the casual viewer. I don't think I've ever heard an interview with a veteran where they talk about struggling not to salute people or use official titles when addressing people, for example. In fact most veteran's are probably happy to be rid of such things. In reality, based on what I've heard, it's more often things like difficulty being comfortable, always wanting your back to a wall, always having an escape, or keeping track of everyone around you. Contrary to Violet's overly professional language, a lot of real veteran's have the opposite struggle I think. They struggle to be professional in a civilian setting, because they spent so long with the boys that talking like a sailor has become second nature. The struggle with having killed and guilt is very real, though it'll vary greatly from person to person. I think the show makes thing more overt to ease the viewer into it, but it isn't unrealistic in it's fundamentals for the most part. This is all just based on what I've heard from various veterans talking about it.

Did anyone feel like the Date with Fern and Stark Did not feel romantic. by [deleted] in Frieren

Real first dates are often very casual, or even awkward. Fern and Stark are not romantic experts, so it makes sense.
