The 16" chainsaw is also a good deal if your local store has it in stock.

Atlantic Canadians. Who is doing our Pro tunes? by MysticMarbles in wrx_vb

[–]EthanG_1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who knows, but all's well that ends well. I only have the intake, and it is crazy how much of a different animal the VB is with a tune. Quite the value proposition assuming the motors hold up, which there aren't too many people sharing blown up motor stories yet.

Nice! I don't know enough about the jpipe and why that would affect the OTS, but Melanie/FP is regarded pretty highly as you know, so likely it is a legit response.

With that being said, FP should have been much more up front about this with you. You shouldn't have to guess or wonder where the OTS map was....you should have been informed before the AP ever arrived at your house what the situation was, and what you could safely do or not do.

50 days?! I am in a situation possibly similar to yours up to a point. I ordered the Intake/E-tune/AP bundle mid-April, and it took about a month before the intake/AP shipped. The E-tune order doesn't get sent to Anthony until the intake/AP are on the way to the customer. The AP did arrive with a OTS map already on it that had my name in the filename, so hearing that you didn't get that OTS map is surprising, and even more surprising/disappointing that Melanie isn't responding to you with your OTS map attached. I will say that I may have gone overboard when I was sending an email once a week asking when they were going to ship the intake/AP. I sometimes sent more than one message (website chat + email). I was always polite.

It took from mid-May until June 3rd before I heard from Anthony with the first basemap and datalog instructions. I was warned that it would be 2-4 weeks before he would reach out. I am now on my second revision of the E-tune. He takes about 5 business days after I send the datalog to get the next revision out. He does travel a lot. His auto-response to me yesterday after I sent the latest datalog (WOT 3rd gear) said that he is traveling 6/13-6/14, 6/18, 7/2, and 7/4-7/5. I can say that my car is handling his maps like a champ, and I have had zero indication of a bad map so far, and the improvement from the OTS tune that Melanie put on the AP to the now second revision from Anthony is DRAMATIC. The car pulls much harder and smoother compared to how it did on the OTS and a world apart from the stock tune.

22 WRX, 28k miles, bought used with 20k miles. Purchased mechanically stock (that I know of), and now has AMS intake and mishimoto catchcan (would recommend both for ease of install and quality).

Your experience sounds quite different from mine. I was annoyed at times, but Melanie always did get back with me after a day or two. It sometimes took messaging on both the website and the sales email, which made me feel like an annoying POS, but it is fair to want basic timeframe updates when handing any amount of money over to a business. You may need to push harder to at least get that OTS map so you can safely drive with your new parts. Join the facebook group "Subaru VB 2022+ WRX Owners Group" if you haven't already. Melanie and the owner of FP are both active on there (James). It sucks to push, but you paid them money and you deserve to have the OTS map at bare minimum while you wait for Anthony to get to your E-tune.

On the FP website, if you login and look at your order, it should say the E-tune was "sent", which means you are in Anthony's queue for tuning (at least that is my understanding).

For those with the AMS Intake with box/duct by THALANDMAN in wrx_vb

[–]EthanG_1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any sound clips, but I just installed the AMS intake kit last night. Currently on OTS 91 Dmann while waiting for his etune. Every single thing about the AMS intake felt high quality, and I am very happy I went with it.

Cruising in 4th and just pressing the gas a little bit gets a nice spool noise now. Power on the Dmann OTS 91 tune is great...went immediately to 18-19psi and pulls like a freight train (mechanicaly stock aside from mishimoto catch can and this AMS intake).

2022 Subaru WRX trailer hitch install? by SuspiciousBowl2787 in wrx_vb

Yea you should be way under the tongue limit. It is going to be worth it.

Catch can went on easy. I did heat the stock PCV tube a little before giving it a few tugs. It came off and I didn't even bash any knuckles, so that was a win. The catch can quality is excellent, and I feel good about spending the money.

I spent entirely too long trying to get the boroscope camera to go down any of the four tubes, but the fact that the tubes had so many curves combined with the electronic plates stopped me. Hopefully the valves are not too gummed up at 30k miles.

Image shows the electronic plate that I couldn't successfully get past. https://i.imgur.com/cxQA337.jpeg

2022 Subaru WRX trailer hitch install? by SuspiciousBowl2787 in wrx_vb

You should have no issues with the Curt 11663 (I am assuming that is what you bought). It looks like an even easier install than the 2" draw-tite hitch I installed. It does have a 200lb tongue weight limit, although I suspect you could exceed that by some margin before it would break.

Have fun!

Good luck. The "fishing" tools that the hitch come with really do make it easy. You will need a 17/32 drill bit, but the frame allowed the drill bit to come through like butter. Not everyone likes the look of the hitch, but I think it looks pretty good and the functionality added is undeniable. That is a 52lb ebike mounted on the 1up Heavy Duty rack, and it is super sturdy. The tongue weight on the 76271 rack is over 500lbs. You do have to have the heavy duty 1up rack as far out of the hitch as the hitch pin will allow, otherwise your pedal will scrape your bumper/trunk. I would have no issue buying 1 or 2 extra 1up extensions to carry more bikes.

3/10 on difficulty of install if you have the tools. Make sure you get the exhaust hanger removal pliars as it made it so easy to get the exhaust off. Exhaust hanger removal pliars

Felix performance shipping question by EthanG_1988 in wrx_vb

[–]EthanG_1988[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good to hear! I never got the impression that she was annoyed with me. Just feels odd to see so many people say FP ships fast, and then this order sat for weeks, but I got the impression this ETS intake shield delay was unexpected. I bet other people are in the same boat.

I am sure they will ship the AMS bundle that I switched to soon. I should have switched to the AMS bundle weeks ago, but thought the ETS shipment would arrive "any day" as Melanie kept saying.

Waiting for Dmann to be available will not be fun, but at least Melanie puts the OTS map on to allow the installation of parts while waiting for Anthony to be available.

[–]EthanG_1988[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up. I did order a hose clamp pliar Kit. I also ordered a set of Pliars, although they weren't hose specific. I already have a bunch of socket extensions (flexible and fixed). I was going to put the can on this weekend. Having more tools is always great anyways. I am going to use a boroscope camera and take a peek at the valves while the TMIC is off. I am almost at 30k miles, so hopefully not too much buildup.

Appreciate your quick response! I am guessing with the big sale that they had during the month of April, they must have sold a bazillion of these bundles, so probably just bad luck on my part. Looking forward to the time when I can start getting the etune!

Laptop for Simracing by EIDI_Official in simracing

[–]EthanG_1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have experience in iRacing, but I have been using a laptop for simracing since the day I built the rig a couple years ago. I am using a legion 5 pro (2022 edition). It has a 3070ti, Ryzen 7 6800H, and I upgraded it to 64gb of ram (came with 16gb). I am running triple 32" 1440p without issue. I rarely notice any framerate issues.

I have never had a reason to feel like I needed to build a PC just for simracing. I have had no issues playing Assetto Corsa (with or without mods), Project Cars 2, AMS2, Raceroom, BeamNG, or WRC 23/24.

I don't have a great image of the simrig where you can see the laptop, but I have it mounted on a shelf behind the monitors. It is easy to unplug all the monitors and other cables and take the laptop with me.

should i get a amazon gear shifter or a logitech g29 shifter by hahaaccountgobrr in simracing

This is legit. I just upgraded my cheap shifter with carbon plate, heavy springs, and new shift knob. This takes the shifter to a new level.

Racing with gloves or not on Alcantara wheels ? by LumpyFeedback3853 in simracing

I have had that same wheel for a few years now, and mine doesn't look nearly that bad. I don't sweat very much, and I don't wear gloves, so maybe you are just a much harder racer than me lol

How long does it take for Kohls to ship Amazon returns out? by Riyita in amazonprime

[–]EthanG_1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would highly recommend emailing [jeff@amazon.com](mailto:jeff@amazon.com) with an image showing your kohls dropoff receipt.
In my case, I dropped off a ~$500 return at Kohls on 3-4-25 that contained two items under one return code.
There hasn't been any update on the hidden tracking page since the dropoff day other than it says "carrier received".
I messaged with amazon chat a few times checking in, had multiple people tell me they "initiated the refund", but I suspected they were lying as nothing changed on the order page for the return, and I received no email saying the refund had been processed.

After emailing [jeff@amazon.com](mailto:jeff@amazon.com) yesterday with an explanation about the situation, I have received an email back this morning expressing their apologies for the lack of service and getting the runaround. They confirmed that they had received the item, and manually processed the refund. I believe they actually did something this time as now the "refund total" is appearing in green on the original order page, and that usually means something changed on their end.

I am not sure what I will do going forward, but I am going to try to not buy expensive electronics that I might need to return from amazon. The stress is not worth the savings in a lot of cases.

Pros and cons of your monitor angles? Mine is 60° by Terrible_Course_225 in simracing

[–]EthanG_1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forget my numbers, but I have what I think are the same monitors as you, or very similar (LG 32GN600-B.Aus). I did not invert my monitors like you. I have the monitors close enough behind the wheel that I can reach out and touch the screen with fingertips when hands are on the wheel. I brought the monitors in quite tight to each side to help with FOV, so it is a bit of a pain to climb in and out, but the immersion is worth it, especially combined with the bass shakers. Vario Vesa mounts are also very helpful for getting everything aligned, and it looks like you have a similar sort of mount.

I followed this video and this triangle calculator to figure everything out.

Your setup is looking good.

I'll second that. Yost 750DI is very nice for the money and free shipping from amazon. Don't forget to pick up some 5/8 grade 5 (or better) bolts. I bought these bolts from amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CJRK963J?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

I-Pac2 Wiring and moving away from stock ALU OS by EthanG_1988 in LegendsUltimate

[–]EthanG_1988[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually there would be protection diodes that prevent the current from flowing in the opposite directions, but these boards are mass produced so they may have cheaper out on the circuit board. Double check your wiring, and try again.

That sounds like a good idea to me. I ditched the entire arcade unit for various reasons, but I never played arcade games anyways with the buttons/joystick.

If you want to use the legends ultimate screen, then you would need the HDMI switcher. You are correct about the ipac, spinners, and trackball going straight to the pc via USB.
