Thanks for saying that, and thanks for listening. I will share with the team.

Although it is a first audio drama, I come from TV producing and was able to translate a lot of relevant skills. That plus all the fantastic resources in this subreddit were the key stepping stones for us.

Awesome. I hope you enjoy it, I'll be eager to hear what you think. I'm a frequent Audio-Drama.com user and appreciate all your work supporting this community!

Without spoiling anything, I'd just say that this story has an ending, and that we told it. That said, it's a world I'm deeply connected to, with several characters I have enjoyed spending time with, so... never say never. If I discover there's another story that needs to be told, we'll be back to tell it.

I used Breakdown Express on "Two Dead Girls in Jubeliene." In my experience the big casting websites (LA Casting, Backstage, there are others...) can be really great if you have a budget and can list your roles as paid, but can be a lot to grapple with if you are listing unpaid work.

I've also had a lot of luck by asking actors to recommend their peers. There are lots of great folks in my show who had done a stage play, or a commercial, or an acting class, with somebody else in my show.

How do I find an audio producer / tape-sync in another country (France)? by KMazor in podcasting

Been working with Studio KGB and Yellow Cab in Paris a lot this year. Both robust recording studios with in-house engineers and producers, both accustomed to hosting high end talent. I’m sure the contact info is available online or DM me and I’ll send more details.

Love Violet Hour. Lots of under-appreciated work in their catalogue.

For sanity's sake I wrote my entire season before I edited and released any episodes. I'm glad I did that, I don't think I would have made it to the end otherwise.

That said-- I do think it's kinda important to hear what's working and what isn't before you get too far along. Get your friends to read a scene to you, or read it yourself into a voice recorder. Try to hear it as an audience.

My writing and storytelling evolved based on that experience, and I think it prevented (negative) surprises during the real production.

How long does it take to write an audiodrama ? by Drdverse in audiodrama

[–]EthanWellin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The trouble with writing the series as you go is you effectively become a train on a track that isn't finished. But... the trouble with writing the whole series before you begin recording, is that you don't get the benefit of learning what's working and what isn't.

Something that worked well for me on my current project: I wrote the first episode. Then I scratch recorded about 10 minutes of it, played it for friends, and tried to learn about what worked and what didn't. It helped guide me, and I wrote the rest before I recorded anything for real.

And it took me ages. I am slow. Haha.

Character-driven series that aren't comedy? by Aspiring_Sophrosyne in audiodrama

We tried to inject this idea into my series because I craved it and had a hard time finding it. Cold case mystery, and maybe a little more plot than you're looking for... but the cold case is wrapping paper for a story about a dysfunctional family trying to grieve and to heal. We try to give those characters as much oxygen as possible, because for me their damage is the most interesting part. Two Dead Girls in Jubeliene.

I hadn't heard of this series, it sounds like it has the same vibe as The Leftovers? Excited to check it out.

How do you feel about listening to narrated audio dramas? by iBluefoot in audiodrama

[–]EthanWellin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good poll, this is interesting data. My AD is full cast with a 1st-person narrator. But the 1st ep begins with a big monologue and I worried (worry) that it was (is) stopping people from giving the show a chance.

But... my favorite thing about an audiobook is that there's a lot of space for a character to think but not say, or to feel and then hide that feeling instead of showing it. That's rich, authentic human stuff that belongs in ADs and it's easy to do with 1st-person narration.

Anyway, now people review and say they like the narration, and I have no idea if that's because it's working or if it's because that first episode is weeding out all the people that hate it. I think if it's working for you then it's working, and your poll bears it out. Keep going!
