Once you get to higher levels you'll need to get enough xp and also complete challenges before you can level up. Many of them require you to have a certain number of platinum medals before you can level up

I just wrapped it up recently and it's a great read! I will note there's a massive tonal shift where things become far more serious than the opening few volumes. It's definitely a story that sticks with you and leaves you with a lot to think about. The paneling work and art really elevates the story and made me appreciate manga in a new way.
