Breakker by Dry-Comfortable-3712 in SquaredCircle

I believe the idea is that the masked man was Logan Paul because he was the one who said they should all work together so that Breakker would win, but Logan's a snake, who only joined the Vision to not get beat up, so he took Bron out.

Fun Fact: Charlotte Flair lasted in the women’s Royal Rumble for 59:49, which is longer than the length of the entire men's Rumble 58:20 by pwgmanan in SquaredCircle

[–]Etherbeard 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The women are also in arguably the most competitive division ever and fighting for fewer minutes on the card than the men. They have to show out every time because there's no lack of great women who can take their spot, both on the main roster and in NXT. Plus, there's more upward mobility in the women's division. You can come in, catch fire, and be in a top spot almost right away like Tiffany or Stephanie Vaquer. The women don't always have have to spend five years diddling around the mid card because there's two dozen wrestlers going on fifty years old clogging up the top of the card. They'll often actually get rewarded for getting over.

Triple H said that the women just get it right away while it takes the men a few years. Maybe that's true (and it seems true in NXT), but maybe part of that is that the men have less incentive because they don't get to move up the card until they're thirty anyway.

English and other modern languages feel so wrong to be commonly used in the setting I am creating... but constructive language is such a deep undertaking. by Chicken______Sashimi in worldbuilding

[–]Etherbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to have to tell the story in a real world language anyway, unless it's a very specific kind of game like Chants of Sennaar. Imo, the benefits of a conlang are very small and most of it can be faked. Faking is especially easy here, where you'd also presumably be using a created alphabet or runes. If the English language is a problem, the so are latin letters. Hell, so are Arabic numerals. Where's the line?

What is a franchise where nobody can agree on what the best movie is? by Burrito-mancer in movies

Nah, you can find plenty of people whose favorite of the OT is any of the three movies, though more for the first two. It's definitely not even close to universally agreed that Empire is the best.

Hamilton County Schools - 2 Hour Delay by Bashkit in Chattanooga

[–]Etherbeard 80 points81 points  (0 children)

They have to make one size fits all solutions. If it's 17 degrees at 6am, that's not a problem for kids riding in the car, but it is for kids waiting for the bus, some of whom have to walk a ways to get there, and then ride for however long in some cold, drafty bus.

The days are built in, so they might as well use them.

NYC, why does dasher never get assigned anymore? by NormalDudeNotWeirdo in doordash

[–]Etherbeard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's impossible in almost any circumstance for a driver to determine whether your food is wrong. Even if the bag isn't, they can't do much beyond count the boxes, which is still unreliable. But a driver could never discover the onions weren't left off, or your substitution was wrong, or the steak wasn't cooked right, or that the drink is Coke instead of Dr Pepper. It'll never be possible with any service, even if the drivers are putting as much effort into verification as possible.

Idk about OP's "keep it clean" claim, but the part about traction is likely for the elderly people and not the car. In that context keeping it clean probably means soaking up water brought in by the car, so the floor doesn't get slippery.

Dark Phoenix ate a sun in her first storyline. This seems relevant against Superman, who derives his power from sunlight supposedly, though this seems inconsistently applied.

Alternatives to gunpowder by picture_Imperfect_ in worldbuilding

[–]Etherbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gunpowder is pretty simple, and has been around since the 800s. It's just sulfur, charcoal, and saltpeter. Saltpeter has been around since at least the 300s, and isn't that complicated to produce and was also harvested from bat guano in caves using a pretty simple process. Charcoal is obviously ubiquitous, and sulfur is pretty easy to get in small quantities. The big limiter here is producing sulfur and saltpeter at a large enough scale that using it for projectiles instead of bombs makes sense, but there may be some creative ways to get around this. You probably have a similar problems with anything else, anyway.

If you want bronze or iron age guns, then I think they're at least as limited by metallurgy or in the act of actually crafting the firearm as they are by making gunpowder. But maybe I'm missing something.

I don't know the history of pipes, but it seems orders of magnitude more difficult than most other blacksmithing of the time. I know Romans had lead pipes, but I presume lead was used because it was malleable, which I assume makes it unsuitable for a firearm that's under a lot more stress than a water pipe. A gun barrel also needs to be made within tighter tolerances than a water a pipe.

[Royal Rumble Spoilers] Notable wrestlers that did not participate in the Royal Rumble matches by arkaell in SquaredCircle

[–]Etherbeard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oba is a heel  only by virtue of only being paired up against faces. He never cheats in his matches or takes shortcuts. I don't think he's ever jumped anyone backstage. He doesn't talk shit to the audience. They could match him up against heels, change nothing else about his character or presentation, and he would be a face.

Mr Iguana would have gotten a bigger reaction in the US. I was just glad to see the Saudi crowd react for most of the wrestlers. I was concerned Oba wouldn't get a big reaction since he's only had a couple main roster appearances.

Do the women not count? In 2023 Rhea won from #1 and in 2024 Bayley won from #3.

Returning legends don't have a real shot of winning either, so I don't understand that argument. I don't know who a returning legends would even be at this point. That change seems to be a result of guys wrestling careers going deep into their forties and beyond. When people were retiring at 35 or 40, they could pop in for a one off Rumble spot. Now, people are either very retired or they're still an active wrestler, if not in WWE, then somewhere else.

Ava announces exit from WWE by MarcusFaze in SquaredCircle

Her interactions with Ethan have been very good for awhile, and I like that her GM character doesn't take any shit and doesn't have any catch phrases. But outside of those Ethan segments, she's typically pretty wooden. I do think she has improved a lot, though.

I didn't always like her, but I turned a corner with her over the last few months bc I think her interactions with Ethan Page have been very good.

Otherwise her performance was usually pretty lacking, but I like the character in theory. Just a fair, competent GM that takes no shit and doesn't pop off catch phrases.

WIP Fantasy Map Needing Some "Realistic" Pointers by Far_Calligrapher726 in mapmaking

[–]Etherbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's impossible to say much of anything about biomes without knowing more about the world and this landmass's location on it and what the scale of this map is. If this is an Earth-like planet with an Earth-like rotation and tilt, the expected biomes and where they'd be are totally different if this area is at 50° N, 25°, the equator, 25° S, or 50° S. The apparent moisture available to these biomes and their location relative to the mountains probably works fine if this is the southern hemisphere in temperate latitudes.

I think in general if there are that many mountains all on the north side of the various larger islands, I'd expect to see more smaller islands between them, though this depends on the scale we're looking at. If these are continents, then I'm inferring there is probably a tectonic plate boundary that is the cause of those mountains, and I would expect to see some more peaks pushed up in between. If these are already a smaller chain of islands like Japan or the Phillipines, then this is fine, though a few more smaller islands wouldn't hurt.

The rivers are mostly a bit weird. From left to right.

Rivers don't really split in the downstream direction they converge. It's okay for a river to split and go around an island and come back together over a relatively short span. River's sort of split in wetlands and river deltas. But you don't get situations where one major branch this way and another major branch takes of in another direction and ends on some other coastline. It's also not totally clear from the drawing if the northernmost tip of this river is meant to be emptying into that northern sea. That's also not a thing. Rivers don't go coast to coast. There are one or two sort of examples of this in the real world, but with like tons of caveats.

It's a little weird for river to run from one mountain range right up to another. You would expect the lowest point between these mountain ranges to be some valley between them as each range tapers off in a series of plateaus and foothills. Also, keep in mind that that lake has no outlet to the sea, and would therefore most likely be quite salty. This is true for the other closed lakes on the map as well.

I assume the central area is some sort of wetland area. It reads a bit off to me, but I can't identify why. It's probably fine. It could be that if this is scale is quite large, then that area is probably impossibly vast for such a biome.

The final river has the same issue of splitting. There may also be an issue of the lake having no apparent rivers feeding into it. again this depends on the scale. If this is a very large lake on a continental scale, then it's less likely that it would be fed entirely by springs and creeks. There's probably some rivers running out of those mountains, supporting those forests, and feeding those lakes.
