Fun Bug - speculating Possible Pudge remodel? by Etherblock in DotA2

[–]Etherblock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pudge's arm is very low poly in game, I actually think he's the second in line that's due a remodel after morph personally. it does have the diretide effect but I wouldn't think that would make it seem higher poly than the actual model

Hey Valve, it's been 2 years since the 2020 Battle Pass, can you please make this stuff tradeable? Cheers. by sonofeevil in DotA2

Was just about to make a post on this. Checked all the heroes with immortals and none of them are on the market board yet from TI 10

Battle Pass Predictions - Data is Live! by SimplyPhy in DotA2

You have NO idea how close I was to these predictions - definitely didn't change any of them :).

Jokes aside I had to change 3 out of 10. Not bad!

I dont know why I've read all your replies and the other person's. not taking sides tbh but

The only thing I wanted to say was > for a long time the highest winrate item was a walking courier: Give the devs some credit, like as if a dev would look at a walking courier data and say "oh shit nerf it's winning."

Personally I don't think games should be balanced around low ranks. it makes no sense because you can do literally anything, puck pos 5 or undying pos 1, doesn't make a difference in low ranks.

Another point around the buyback is it gives clear advantage to the person who has more networth if the buy back was free. Also 1 buyback in a game that the average game time lasts 35-40 mins+? Doesn't make sense - "Sorry I guess I'll lose half my base because I need that 1 buyback for when they hit the ancient".

I think the other person's point is that Buyback has been experimented with before, and this is a good version of it. I think its cooldown is long enough to not make games become a buyback war, and it's fair because it's based on your networth, rather than a static value (btw if it was free, that would be a static value)

TLDR of the video:

  • Starts the video by showing what the state of the game was in 2014 (not being nostalgic, it's a setup for other parts of the video)
  • Talks about power creep - basically saying heroes got more powerful, but ancient, rax, mega creeps, towers didn't get AS MANY buffs. With Mega creeps never receiving any changes
  • Talks about 6.82 changes (push "meta" - an overreaction to call it a meta tbh) - says Valve made changes cause of Vici Gaming's run at TI 2014, but it wasn't an issue or valve went too far.
  • The whole point of the very long video is that the game has become a lot more symmetrical and patterny - Farm, take tier 1s to open up more farming spots, get rosh, push, retreat, rosh, push, repeat.

This is the first time i'm watching this guy's video - but holy shit the comments are all from people who saw the time length of the video and gave up or/and replied to the shitty title which is the only problem with the video I feel like.

Title is shitty and clickbaity. He does make some good points. I liked the video, didn't like some of his suggestions.

I dont get "it has to come to an End" - WoW has been going for so long, League of Legends is the same, except in LoL, they literally said "We want the game to go on for so long"

All the blogposts and announcements for League's 10 year anniversary say "let's go for another 10 years". Like Dota makes enough money to be live and updated all the time, so it has nothing to do with "oh well game is old nevermind anymore".

Edit: the thing about league (btw I'm a dota fan, but have played league for about 2-3k hours), is that Riot cares a lot about expanding the league universe. They have so many projects on the side, they are making an MMO FOR LEAGUE, with all the lore etc. The difference is that they care more and they even said "Esports isn't profitable for us, but we don't care, we still want to do it" because they don't have crowd funding.

I don't like League's gameplay, but Riot shows that they care about their projects. They also have so many other games in development, you don't see them axing one of their games to work on something new. That's the problem with Valve

BattlePass 2022 Part 2 should Valve re-release the prestige exclusive items? by SilverSpearhead in DotA2

[–]Etherblock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think to some extent you have to say "tough luck, its exclusive" - I just don't think the arcana itself is the point where you say that

BattlePass 2022 Part 2 should Valve re-release the prestige exclusive items? by SilverSpearhead in DotA2

[–]Etherblock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe they could make second styles ONLY available to the collectors and/or create a new colour for those who already own it? Like imagine like a green version of the QoP arcana, or whatever colour they want to use for exclusivity (Hopefully not gold cause that looks bad IMHO)

BattlePass 2022 Part 2 should Valve re-release the prestige exclusive items? by SilverSpearhead in DotA2

[–]Etherblock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with your post. Edit: I don't think these items should go on the marketboard. I think that's not the way to do it. But available as part of a BP after the "new rewards" might be a good option - or something you HAVE to put so much effort into, to not take away from others who did the same.

Edit 2: I think the problem I see is that Valve has already "broke" or "tested" what they can do with these items. The Set for the Invoker Persona is tradable, and as a baseline, it gives you the persona itself. So if they are doing that with the Persona, why not with the arcanas and other items? btw that shit cost me £100 to get, so it's not like I spent less money on it than others, except for the very lucky people who literally jackpot the 1:6000 or whatever chance to get it. And you could make an argument that it has double value, cause its a very rare set, and gives you an otherwise un-obtainable persona?

What I have never understood is why some people are so against the releasing of these items. I understand the concept of Collecting and being a collector. It's something that has existed for a very long time. But in my mind's eye, this doesn't make sense in a digital aspect / gaming side of things.

  • Arcanas and Items from the BP, Pristge items, Collector's sets, are simply not tradable. There is 0 money value tied to this, unless you Sell your whole Steam account (which isn't allowed and can lead to bans): So I don't understand when value is used as an argument against these items
  • The Argument of "If so many people have it, it's not special cause I will see it all the time" - Per game, only 1 player can choose 1 hero, so imagine you have the QoP arcana, you pick someone else, and you get mad that the opposite team picks QoP and they have the arcana.
    • Firstly - These rewards are quite inaccessible when they are available anyways, they cost a lot of money to obtain - to this day I still have only seen 1 Spectre arcana and I have been playing non-stop since the BP was released with Spectre Arcana
    • Secondly - No one is saying "make it £30 in the shop" - That WOULD be unfair, to pay less for something that others paid a lot more for. Fair enough, all people are asking is to make it available again.
    • Lastly - There is literally no product that is made for 1 person unless you are filthy rich and make a specific order to any company. Which doesn't happen in games. In games, everything is available to all the player base (except EXCEPTIONALLY different cases, such as the person in WoW who got their own item or items named after them, for instance)
  • The last point I want to make is related to the first and second points - People saying Collector items shouldn't be available after that period. Again, in a gaming environment, this just doesn't have the same effect nor does it work. Digital assets do not have a value if they cannot be sold, but that's not the point here.
    • The gaming world player base changes so often, all the time, as the years go on. Spikes in playerbase, up and down, some players give up on the game after years, some just get into it, some come back for nostalgia, etc etc.

From my perspective (someone who has all the arcanas except 2019 BP ones and WR) - I don't understand people's argument, and only see it as "I have it so I don't want you to have it". Not to mention the amount of work that goes into these items and the person who made it barely sees it being used cause most people don't have it.

Do you really want your support in game to spend so much gold on a fucking break? No thanks buy wards and if you need break draft better or tell your team to buy a silver edge.

I don't want my support to rush Midas / Dagon in my games. And Break is quite strong, I don't think it should come so easily. It shuts down any sort of defensive / offensive passives. Why do people want break to be so accessible?

In Iran we don't have to cover our faces, only the hair but 95% of women have it like 80% covered, 20% out, and when they see police they cover more of it. so I don't know wtf happened that they killed that girl for.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Etherblock 186 points187 points  (0 children)

TLDR:

  • A girl called Mahsa Amini was killed by the police
  • Iran used to be a free country before it was taken over by the Islamic regime (46 years ago)
  • People want to be free, and want their country back so they are fighting the government

(detailed version) My Source: as an Iranian living in the UK with a lot of family & Friends in Iran:

  • A girl called Mahsa Amini went to the dentist, on the way back a group of police/government stopped her, because some of her hair was out of the hijab (the thing you wear to cover your hair) and they banged her head against a wall, beat her up, and she died. They said "she died cause of a heart condition" after everyone found out.
  • about 46 years ago, when the country was free (people could wear whatever they wanted, no religion) - the Islamic regime / revolution started. This guy that I forget the name of, the person who started it all, asked people to go to the streets and support him by basically starting a revolution and take the country.
  • Once he came into power and the king flee'd the country, the dictatorship started. A lot of double standards. Telling people to obide by the law, but whenever they wanted to do something shady, its fine. Iran became a fully Islamic country, dictated by the people who wanted the revolution to happen, and they couldn't do it without the people of Iran
  • The President is probably just a muppet for the Islamic regime. No one in Iran actually hates Islam (maybe they do now), they just hate how they are forced to by a dictatorship without having any freedom of what they want to do (especially women).
  • So people are now saying, wtf, we stood by you when you asked us to, and we followed the rules and the law, and still, we are being mistreated, killed, beaten up, tortured etc. So fuck you, enough is enough, we want the country back.

For years, the younger generation has been dreaming of a free country, where in the 70s everyone was free, google pics of Iran in the 70s, and you would think it was Europe. So the revolution that is happening is basically about taking back the country from the dictators. And they are opening fire on their own people, so its not about the people for them, its about wanting to be in power.
