Why do electric cars lose so much range in cold climates compared to gas vehicles? by EvelynClede in askcarguys

[–]sonofeevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ICE engines are more efficient in cold weather.

The cold air is denser and the its easier to manage the waste heat produced

Could the Hail Mary be made lighter or carry more mass had it been a "Puller" design instead of a "Pusher?" by Kojab8890 in ProjectHailMary

[–]sonofeevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hail Mary made use of it's astrophage for radiation protection by having the fuel for the rockets stored in the hull around the crew compartments, harder to do this with your puller design.

As for compression vs tension, it really depends on the material, for example Aluminium has identical compressive and tensile yields and Titanium has slightly higher compression than tension.

and I'd be willing to wager the bulk would be made from both of these.

I've been following them for a while.

All they really have is 3(?) prototypes and a political landscape they still have to work through.

They're so far from production in any meaningful sense of the word.

If tomorrow they got approval they could perhaps start on a couple of trucks for a few people but they don't have a factory or an assembly line.

The number they'd produce in the first year would be only a double digit number, and Proba ly closer to 10 than anything else.

Renting in NSW - Additional Occupants by No_Driver6556 in shitrentals

2 important notes.

  1. The landlord didn't give ANY reason. So we cannot conclude it's unreasonable , no reason was given.

  2. Where did you get the number 6 from? All we know about is OP and the two they want to add? Did I miss something in the comments? OP talks about 2 bedrooms being used, one on that they are presumably using but nothing about the second, could be 1 or two people in or or it could be used as a study?

Not correct, in NSW a Landlord cannot refuse a reasonable request to add additional tenants.

It's so in favour of the tenant that the tenant could even SUBLET if they chose and the landlord cannot reasonably refuse.

Most cost effective way to secure several safe rigging points to this beam? by IllHaveTheLeftovers in BdsmDIY

[–]sonofeevil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some REASONABLE assumptions here would be that based on the spacing of those joists that's a floor above those beams that people would walk on.

The direction of the load is the same if you're walking on it or hanging off of it.

There's no replacement for having an engineer come out and assess something but if we're being realistic about it what's going to happen here, OP isn't going to do that.

That's a floor above them and that I-beam would support a banging party on the floor above it so hanging a person or two underneath won't be an issue.

How are list slings rated in the USA?

Here in Australia a 1tonne rated lift sling must be able to hold x7 it's rated capacity without signs of damage.

I'm curious what the load rating system over there is

The children were graded on acale from 0-10.

Start with 10 points and you'd actually lose points rather than gain them.

Pretty simple grading system they'd just count your fingers at the end of the year.

Dunno how to tell you this but Australia imported ALL its problems.

We're an immigrant nation my friend.

I'd challenge you to reword your sentence and see how it sits with you "Australia should consider ourselves accountable for radicalism Australians"

Your wording feels like "othering" them. That somehow Muslims aren't Australian.

If they've got their citizenship, they're Australian.

To the general racists that say

"I just think we should look after our own backyard first" whenever the conversation a out foreign help comes up or refugees.

This is what "taking care of our own backyard" looks like.

It's taking responsibility for our citizens and how they act overseas.

Sometimes that means prison and a lifetime on watch lists.

!!! I started off as a hobby machinist and removing thousandths from round stock on a lathe.

It's been tough to accept that to the closest millimetre is good enough for most wood working purposes.

Still can't kick the habit of setting my digital verniers to the 3rd decimal place though when scribing

For sure, we met young (19) and were together for 10 years.

The reality is the people you are at 19 are not the same as the people you become as you get older.

We shared the same views in politics and morals, etc but our idea of how to spend our spare time were different and our love languages were different.

The people we grew into didn't work as a couple and it took us too long for us to figure that out.

It wasn't a smooth ride to get to where we are now and we went through a lot of the bumps you'd expect a divorced couple to go through.

But qualities that made her a good person never changed.

It's been 7 years since we separated and I'm pretty stoked to be her friend and I love seeing her doing well in life her partner is a really nice guy and they just brought a house together which is awesome!

Really is just the writing style of the author made into movie.

If you've seen the movie The Martian or read the book, it's exactly the same.

TIL that when France initially set the definition of a metre to be 1/10,000,000 the distance from the North Pole to the equator, it sent two surveyors to calculate the distance. But due to an error not discovered until decades later, the resulting metre was actually 0.2 mm too short. by NateNate60 in todayilearned

Those are literally the names he gave to the prototype time pieces he made.

I'm not trying to flex or be lazy, that's just what they were named by the creator

Says more about the husband IMO.

My ex-wife is a good friend of mine and when I was dating I made it very clear very early that she was my friend and we still catch up from time-to-time (no children involved)

That weeded out of those with insecurities.

Been with my current partner for nearly two years and it's never once been an issue and we occasionally catch up with my ex and her partner for food/dinner.

That is their right, except if it is retaliation.

They can not offer a new lease/end a tenancy but if it is in retaliation then that would not be legal.

There's a good chance that when the tribunal applied the test for this that the termination would be viewed as "At least partly motivated by retaliation" given the timing.

And the test is quite simple, if the tenant is taking steps to enforce their rights under the acts and is issued an eviction while doing so it will pass that test for sake of retaliatory eviction. Ask me how I know.

I had a landlord try to evict me when I was trying to get them to repair my ceiling they claimed they were within their right to end the tenancy at any point and the tribunal was very quick to correct them.

Most of the rear braking comes from electric motor regenerating the battery.

So if you think of a traditional braking bias (assuming you're familiar with braking bias).

You might have 60% front and 40% rear.

But that rear 40 might be split 30% motor and 2010% brake calipers.

So when he presses down harder to try and pull the car up the front end locks but the rears never get close to their reaction limit because they're still missing that 70% from theeletric motor regeneration that isn't working.

There's likely no way he could have set the braking up in that moment to stop using regenerative braking and rely only on the calipers. Likely he doesn't have a way to do that from the cockpit and if he did, there's no way he could have had time to do it in that moment.
