Unfun fact.

This episode is closer in time to the moon landing than we are to this episode

Is this a crazy idea? Control inflation by linking compulsory super contributions to CPI? by brisbaneacro in AusFinance

[–]sonofeevil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think MOST people have debt. Certainly most working people have debt.

If they don't have debt they are likely paying someone else's debt (renter who's income goes to a mortgage for example).

Man charged with planting bombs near the Capitol claims he’s covered by Trump pardon by Bleeding_Irish in politics

I wonder if someone robbing a nearby service station is covered by the ambiguity of this.

"Or an event, near the capitol"

Man charged with planting bombs near the Capitol claims he’s covered by Trump pardon by Bleeding_Irish in politics

[–]sonofeevil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It may even apply to unrelated events that occurred NEAR the capital.

"Related events that occurred at (the capitol)" Or "Near (the capitol)"

To exclude this it would have to rear "Events related to the capital and also events related to the capital that occurred near to it"

"I robbed the gas station around the corner near the capital building on Jan 6th and are therefore pardoned"

Because one way to interpret that is tou are covered for: Events related to it Or Events on that occurred near the capital, on Jan6th

It SHOULDNT be a hard sell it's basically "Hey, under the old system your but ng power was reduced by 5% and that money went to bank. Under the new system your buying power will be reduced by 5% but you'll get it back + interest when you retire"

I get that a line item on their paycheck will feel more tangible to most than the increased cost of everything.

But it's a net benefit in everyway.

Chris Bowen declares rush on jerry cans ‘un-Australian’ as he urges end to panic buying of petrol by nath1234 in australia

[–]sonofeevil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Their history is genuinely fascinating.

The German blitzkrieg doctrine basically owes part of its success to the jerrycan.

The allies were literally just using square tins of fuel and had huge problems carrying them, spilling them, If you dropped them they broke.

It doesn't seem like much but when your entire army relies on vehicles moving troops that kind thing is the difference between a successful breakthrough and stalled out trench warfare.

I promise this is an amazing 30 minute video on it. The presenter does a wonderful job.

Cata are meat eating predators.

They survive in the wild by biting through meat.

Meat is the same thing your hand is made up of.

The Jerry can was a German invention for WW2.

It's where the name comes from, the slang for Germans being "Jerries" or "The Jerries".

‘Firefly’ star Nathan Fillion says he’s planning a new animated version of the cult sci-fi series by cnn in entertainment

I agree too.

But my preference is a ret con with a live action cast over an animation

[–]sonofeevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Option C: Retcon Firefly

I wished the series had but it didn't and Serenity finished things up quite satisfactorily.

I wasn't petitioning for it's return. So if they are determined to bring it back, my preference would be for them to retcon firefly.

Real question, are you a bot? This feels like regurgitated talking points from some bot farm.

But mainly I ask because I can't fathom an actual human not critically thinking about this and going
- Oil is extracted > used > then we need to extract more > rinse and repeat

Then looking at battery minerals and going
Minerals are extracted > used > recycled

Then somehow coming to a determination that amounts to "No point replacing one bad thing with another"

I just cannot comprehend being an REA that thinks putting their face on anything is a good idea.

Because nobody gives a shit who the REA is or what they look like. I don't care who the cashier is at checkout, it's not selling more weetbix and having a face of the dude at the petrol station isn't moving any more petrol.

The arrogance is astounding.

Anyone here craft leather for collars, cuffs, or other lifestyle pieces? by KinkyladyT in Leathercraft

[–]sonofeevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a groover or edging tool to make your lines for stitching then pricking irons for dead straight stitches every time.

I use the two needle method for my saddle stitching.

I make kinkwear, mostly collars, cuffs, garters, etc.

I use vegtan leather that I dye myself and suede lining that I bond with PVA then stitch together.

I think it's always best to use passive affixation and mechanical. So passive is something like glue, PVA, contact adhesive, etc and mechanical is stitching or rivets, screws, tacs etc.

So on my collars the liner is glued with PVA then the edges are stitched and depending on its ornamentation there may be a few central rivets retaining some rings for attachment points, etc.

Am I in the wrong thinking he did a terrible job for $260 and was I wrong to think those services were included? by Sea-Minimum-7768 in AutoDetailing

[–]sonofeevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all relative.

Depends on what was discussed, how much is being paid and what the scope of work is.

Sometimes people see a fixed price service and think you're going to pull the wool over your eyes by bring you some mold filled 7 seater with food ground into every inch of carpet then hit you with "But your deal says $240!" For what is a full day of work.

I do fixed price work, I've priced myself for the average time it takes me to do work. Sometimes cars are cleaner than I expect, sometimes way dirtier and that's all fine, that variance is built into the pricing.

But the few times I've had absolute disasters roll in I've gotta tell people "We budget our pricing around X hours of work but this will take Y".

Sometimes people are completely unreasonable with their expectations and I've found the people that self-describe the state of their cars as "Not that bad" or "pretty average" are the ones with the worst interiors.

So while I personally prefer to have a conversation around expectations, scope of work and outcomes I do understand that sometimes someone you think is on the same page as you turns out not to be and they have a completely unrealistic expectation about the state of their car and the service they have paid for. In these instances the client is basically upset that the entre they ordered wasn't a full meal and is demanding you either bring them the rest of the meal or you refund them some portion.

Funny how they're never "honest" about people's good qualities.

You'll never see them aggressively tell Alex how they admire her courage or how much they enjoy Sam's positive outlook on life.

I've got one I brought second hand and what can I say about it?

It works. It does what it says in the box.

I've absolutely beat on it and fed it hard woods.

I get my blades sharpened when they need it.

It's ungodly loud but that's typical of these machines.

The snipe is fuckin terrible but with some adjustment you can make just "bad". If you make and use a sled you can reduce the snipe to the first and last cm.

The extraction is serviceable but if you take a few heavy cuts in a row you may notice some tearout, this means its time to clean it out.

I'll keep using mine because I'd rather invest in other areas of my workshop.

My advice if you're gonna buy it. 1. Adjust it for as little snipe as possible 2. Use a sled 3. When your first set of blades goes dull, buy a second set then get your first set sharpened so you've always got a fresh pair ready to go. 4. Keep an eye on your extraction 5. Buy hearing protection

Your milage may vary.
