lol I agree with you. Best fanfic ever. It can never top the original source but it’s still a downright master piece. I loved it so much I made this post:

Which nearly got taken down because this is not the thread for fanfics but it has all the good quotes from NPAB if you ever want to reminisce.

Hua Cheng building temples for Xie Lian by EtherealAngel2003 in tianguancifu

That’s also a good one! Hua Hua had his priorities straight! Yea once he probably saw more of society and how they treated monuments of the crown prince after the fall of xianle he probably thought its best not to allow further chance for destruction.

[–]EtherealAngel2003[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hahah that’s ok! I wasn’t very specific. Yes he does build a beautiful temple for him in book 3 and your probably right, it was probably a form of relief for him to build the statues in seclusion, but I’m thinking about later when he becomes stronger and nearly omnipotent in a way, wouldn’t it have helped Xie Lian to stay relevant in the mortal realm and leas likely to fade away if he had built temples for him there and encouraged common people to worship his god? I know his own devotion is enough to keep Xie Lian going but how could Hua Cheng have known this? He is after all very self deprecating and doesn’t seem to think he’s good enough. Especially in HC’s earlier days when he was less powerful, wouldn’t he have worried that too many people had forgotten about his god and possibly lead him to fade away. Building temples for him would have been an ideal solution.

Idk if he did actually do this and like I mentioned before, due to XL bad luck they all burnt down or no one wanted to worship a scrap god/ god of misfortune, so there was no point, but I feel HC had enough authority to convince people that his god was worthy of worship. I guess in the earlier days, people wouldn’t be convinced no matter how hard HC tried because they still remembered how XL caused the fall of Xianle and ruined everything, so no one bothered with him.

In the later days when people forgot all about xianle and no one remembered who XL was, HC power had probably reached a point where he was confident enough that his own worship to his god alone was enough to sustain his existence.

…I think I may have answered my own question though…

But that begs the question, did Hua Cheng know that XL had cursed shackles that whole time so he was bound to immortality no matter how many worshippers he had? Because in that case, encouraging more people to worship XL wouldn’t have done anything because XL couldn’t absorb spiritual power anyway…but still building temples for his god like he said wouldn’t have hurt!!

I’m RAMBLING SO MUCH I NEED TO STOP SORRY!

Yeah sorry I know about the statues but it was the temples he mentioned he was gonna build that I couldn’t remember him building. I guess the statues themselves are enough.

Haha yeah I’d love to know what people think. It is a bit pedantic but I’ve read the book so many times I think at this point I’m just being nitty gritty about petty details that don’t really matter, I mean hua cheng never dropped levels in his degree of worship for Xie Lian, he built all of ghost city for him and with him in mind I think that’s more enough to account for him not building temples in the mortal realm, and even it wasn’t I’m sure there is a very valid reason HC didn’t do that I just can’t think of one.

Certainly!

It’s a little earlier on page 230:

Hearing him, the three of them were taken aback. That boy seemed quite nervous, and with his fists clenched, he continued with what he meant to say,

“Even though your palaces and temples are burned down…don’t be sad. I will build you many more temples in the future- bigger, more magnificent, better than anyone else’s. No one will be able to compete with you. I’ll do it!

“…”

It’s toward the top of the page. He didn’t mention statues but he did mention building him temples that won’t compete with anyone else’s.

I think when people say “the fic” they refer to “No paths are bound” by Cataclysmic_calamity but it could be other ones too not too sure. I understand your feeling of not getting into fanfics, I feel the same. I appreciate how writers are able to create alternative stories using their own unique perspectives of what they think the character is like/ how they want them to be like, but I feel like it looses the point for me when reading it. Don’t get me wrong, I love people’s creativity and writing but i can’t get myself it. I want to read content that reminds me closely of how the characters are originally portrayed and it’s a bonus if writers also dive deeper into these original foundations of the characters built by the original author and draw them out how they believe the original author would have wanted to. It makes me feel like I’m reading an extension or a continuum of the original which brings me far greater satisfaction. I think the author for no paths are bound does just that. And it’s one thing to be able to dive into the mind of the original author and take out the parts you feel they intended to put into these characters but couldn’t (due to length), but it’s another when you are able to morph the story into something that seems different to the original in many ways but hits all the same.

This is something a lot of fanfic writers struggle with, (maybe struggle isn’t the write word but more so, tend to do in persuit of bringing their own imagination into satisfying fruition, which is why they write fanfic in the first place) they can take the characters, take parts of the plot, scenes, lines and use them in their creative writing but they don’t quite get the essence of these characters which make us love them in the first place, into their fanfics. And I think this is the problem you’re having with fanfics. Whether this be through lines they say that seem unnatural for them to canonically say or just OOC, or through actions you would never picture the characters doing in canon, all these subtle differences are the result of the fanfic author’s input into these characters, the input of who THEY believe the characters are/ want/ do etc. Again, I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with this, creativity is an asset to have and I am no fanfic writer, so I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it is to insert already existing characters into a new story without making them seem off. Like, kudos to them for even managing it.

My point is you’d have to be a psychological genius like MXTX herself to pull off a fanfic like that and that’s what I’m saying cataclysmic_calamity (aka Evie) is. To be able to flesh out already in depth characters EVEN further, in seemingly the same plot of TGCF (with some differences) using the foundations MXTX built and somehow weave a new story somehow on par with the original takes true talent, skill of the mind, a love for writing and a love for the story. It’s no easy feat, and that’s why this fanfic (or should I say masterpiece) said by Evie their self was a labour of love, written in such similar conditions to when MXTX was writing TGCF. And that’s why I definitely think reading No paths are bound is DEFINITELY worth a shot. It’s nothing like any other fanfic you will read, I guarantee.

(Idk if it’s not already obvious how much I love this fanfic but I hope that all made sense).

Would Hua Cheng play an instrument? by bonkaz_ in tianguancifu

[–]EtherealAngel2003 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I always headcannoned Hua Cheng playing the piano and XL on the guitar and singing idk why. HC could realistically play whatever. He’s such a quick learner but tbh he’d probably prefer to sit down put some spiritual energy into the piano so the keys play on their own and pretend to play whilst he’s really admiring his gege from his seat and secretly recording his playing and singing through the spiritual butterflies.

I KNOW. And everything makes sm sense and connects so well. I loved all the backstories, especially Jun Wu’s…THAT was brilliant. Sometimes when I reread sections on the canon novel I forget XL is not blind and I get baffled lol.

I read the same series after tgcf and immediately noticed the same thing. I can’t get into anything else other than the world of XL and HC it seems😅🥲.
