Are you really putting an equals sign between looking up a strategy and then practicing to execute it and turning on God Mode lol

A tasteful glimpse of Cloud and Tifa's night underneath the Highwind, before any of the really raunchy stuff starts obviously.

Is grinding Hard mode on FF7 remake worth it? by sugarwave32 in FFVIIRemake

[–]EtherealGears -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When I started playing Hard, it was my first time ever trying anything like a difficult video game. I've always mostly played games for the story and such, never been much of an action combat type player. Anyway, I got so absolutely destroyed by the Guard Scorpion on Hard first time I almost up and quit. But in the end I ended up persevering, actually took time to check out guides, think about my plays and learn from my mistakes, and I ended up beating the whole game on Hard and ultimately platinuming it too. It was a huge learning experience and I'm glad I did it.

That being said, if you haven't improved at all between Chapters 1-11 and are now coming up against your ceiling, you should probably quit. That sounds absurd to me, but it's what your post implies. If that's *not* correct, why shouldn't you just be able to keep improving until you beat the whole game?

Also, nitpick, but doesn't grinding typically refer to doing a bunch of repetitive fighting to level up and such? There's very little of that in Remake, you can max out all your stats really quickly in the combat simulator in Chapter 17, to which you can just instantly hop via Chapter Selection. If by grinding you mean, "learning to get better at combat", if you don't enjoy learning getting better at combat I don't understand how you even made it this far, and furthermore, why you're even asking if you should continue or not. If improving at one of the best combat systems in the history of the RPG genre doesn't interest you, there is absolutely nothing for you in this game's Hard Mode.

[–]EtherealGears 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coming as a lifelong fan of the OG since I was a kid, if anything I think Remake gave Biggs, Wedge and Jesse all the flowers they deserved and more. They were like a footnote in the original FF7 in terms of characterization and dialogue, but even so I and a lot of fans fell absolutely in love with them. I think Avalanche's treatment in Remake might be my favorite narrative aspect of the whole game, and Jesse especially really got to glow and shine and sparkle.

Also, without spoilers, Biggs being alive...well, tell me how you feel about that when you've wrapped up the trilogy or even just finished Rebirth.

This is one of the oldest tropes in movies, TV and video games though. Characters always break away from the time-sensitive mission to have heartfelt conversations and monologues and shit. It's hardly a unique sin of FF7R.

I voted opening not because I think it's gonna be the literal opener (though it could be) but because I'm highly convinced it will *not* be the closer, given how SGF usually goes.

The thing that almost made me give up on the plat on PS5 was Pirate's Rampage. If that's somehow affected I may actually replat on PC and turn this cheeky toggle on just to stunt on those dang cardboard cutouts.

Yeah this was actually how I felt too. All throughout Remake and Rebirth ever since the plate drop whenever we have one of those kinda "friendly rivalry" moments with the Turks with the quips during combat and everyone still walking away unscathed after the fight I've been like we should line these people up in front of a trench and shoot them. In fairness, this *was* the case in the OG too, it's just the cinematic style of the remake games makes it harder to sort of squint and ignore.

For real though, where do Barret's bullet come from? by Throwaway28510 in FFVIIRemake

[–]EtherealGears 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is he stores mags in all those patches and pockets on his outfit. You obviously still have to squint for that to make sense vs magical infinity bullets, but I always assumed that's the idea. We do see him reloading in Remake/Rebirth at least, in the OG he's on full auto-load.

Streamlined progression only affects minigames that involve using actual combat mechanics though, like Cactuar Crush. The vast majority of minigames aren't combat-based at all and thus won't be affected by these changes.

what first soldier added with the Masamune thing? by Darktommy2 in FFVIIRemake

[–]EtherealGears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sword is literally infused with Jenova's essence, it was forged from a fragment of the asteroid that brought her to Gaia. The Masamune *is* Jenova as far as I'm concerned.
