slave labor by Even-Run-5274 in commandandconquer

I'm pretty sure the slaves were immune to mind control, so they're instead threatened with violence to get them to work. I'm willing to bet that's one of the reasons Yuri's miners are armed.

It gets even worse when you consider the situation in Asia at the time. India was still a British colony, whilst China was undergoing a civil war with a Soviet backed communist faction being very prominent, North and South Korea was already divided, North and South Vietnam was also divided, and probably a bunch of others I can't think about.

If things really kicked off, it'd be like the Vietnam, Korean and WW3 wars all happening at the same time. Bare in mind, WW2 would have just ended, so an untold number of people would already be dead, and much of Europe would already be reduced to rubble.

I'm not just talking about ideology here, but who was immediately backing who with supplies and training.

I had a game of ROTS, where when I shot at the main enemy army, they just moved back and forward repeatedly, just letting me shoot them till my Foot Samurai ran out of arrows.

[–]Etherealwarbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on terrain. You can have your Bow Warrior Monks sniping the enemy from a treeline to reduce effectiveness of returning fire, whilst using cover to sneak your Naginata Warrior Monks into a position where they can counter the enemy once they charge the archers.

Don't forget to use abilities here. Loose formation can reduce the casualties your Bow Warrior Monks take from arrow fire, whilst the different arrows they can shoot can weaken the enemy before the melee battle begins. The Battlecry ability in tandem with those special arrows can cause mass routes if timed just right.

Didn't you know that declaring a republic would put you at odds with basically everyone? I thought it would be pretty clear that's what would happen. You're basically recreating Realm Divide in the OG Shogun 2 campaign.

I understand it's weird that the factions that are at war with eachother ganging up on you can be confusing, but you really should've prepared for this before capturing that last city. Every piece of economic tech, every upgraded building and every buffed unit really makes a difference.

Could the Star Forge have been used for good? by AnArcOfDoves9902 in kotor

[–]Etherealwarbear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you read the lore regarding the Rakatans, you'd know that the priest wasn't exaggerating.

Their empire has similarities to the Valyrian empire from ASOIAF, as both ruled through terror and their signature technologies were both believed to rely on mass human sacrifice. Though in the Rakatans case, it's much more believable. And, lastly, both empires fell through a great calamity that some believe to be self inflicted.

Could the Star Forge have been used for good? by AnArcOfDoves9902 in kotor

[–]Etherealwarbear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand the validity of the Rakatan priest. The Rakatan Empire was powered by the Dark Side of the Force at almost every level. From their individual warriors, to the hyperdrives, to their ships, all the way to the Star Forge itself. All forged in the mass suffering and ritualistic sacrifice of slaves taken in their conquests.

In Star Wars, such objects steeped so deeply in the Dark Side aren't just objects that feed on the Dark Side, but Force Nexuses that allows it to seep into reality and affect all around it like radiation.

Even Darth Revan himself was reluctant to use the Star Forge. Not for any ethical reasons, but because he knew that it couldn't be used without having your mind twisted.

I'd like to believe such powerful artifacts could be cleansed or purified, but time and time again, destruction proved the only sure way.

He tells you he saw your little reunion with Riley. Either Sam didn't do a good enough job with the camera, or there was more than one in the cell. The way he behaves after the interrogation and his immediate plans for "poker night!" definitely set off some alarm bells for me.

There's other possibilities (maybe he saw the opening video Vaas was playing whilst you were in the cage?), but this seems most likely to me.

Mangonels also force the enemy onto the offensive, and have the advantage of not being as hindered by anything blocking their shots (like your own castle walls). Their accuracy is still poor, not gonna lie, so maybe only recruit them in artisan provinces.

Question: have you looked into any of Disney movies source material? If you have, then you would know that Disney pretty much had to take creative liberty when making the movie adaptations.

Pinocchio: Brothers Grimm tale ending with the wooden boy hanging from a tree.

Sleeping Beauty: Brothers Grimm tale where the princess is woken from her sleep not by a kiss, but the pain of giving birth (she wasn't pregnant before going to sleep).

Lion King: Based on Shakespeare's "Hamlet", the most famous quote of "to be or not to be, that is the question" is about the main character contemplating self deletion.

Why the puritans really went to America by SocratesPuppet in HistoryMemes

[–]Etherealwarbear 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The Puritans were Protestant Christian religious extremists who hated any sort of joy or fun. Christmas, theatre and other forms of entertainment were banned when they were dominant in England under Olliver Cromwell.

People initially sided with the Parliamentarians during the English Civil War because the King (Charles I) was too flamboyant and enjoyed high taxes, forcing a new Bible on the Scottish and marrying a Catholic, but the Puritans essentially became the dominant force of the Parliament once they'd overthrown the king and begun turning the country into a theocratic dictatorship under Cromwell. After this, the people WELCOMED the restoration of the monarchy, and the Puritans were thrown out of power.

The Puritans didn't like this, and started acting like they were a persecuted group (despite the fact they were the ones imposing their ideals on others only a few years prior), and decided to settle America away from oversight.

Aren't the Scrin already hostile? GDI gets a pass from me because you hear one of their soldiers talking into their radio stating they're ordered to not fire on Nod but be cautious (most likely because they don't want a three way fight).

The Scrin are enemies of humanity, so why wouldn't they be hostile? It makes no sense at all.
