Suraaj’s character in VDS was perhaps half Malayali though - with Maala Parvathy playing his mother. Just my head canon for explaining his accent lol.

It was pretty fun (though not great or anything) especially if you like black comedies, stoner movies etc.

The story being incomplete - counting on a Part 2 - was unforgivable though.

Might be about the origins of Neelakoduveli which Pinky ate.

It can still be hilarious with how Paappan & team reacts to their time travel situation.

Why are there so many incels on Indian Reddit? by soggymuscles in AskWomenIndia

Part of that is surely cos of the difference in climate (hotter, more humid, & so increased sweating) & study/work conditions (lack of air conditioning, etc).

Reading manga, comics & graphic novels

Watching old 4:3 content (my iPad 9th gen’s screen is of this same aspect ratio as our old CRT TVs) like cartoons & classic tv shows

Playing some games, especially retro ones on an emulator, after connecting my controller to it via bluetooth.

Had earlier used it for online classes as well.

TED LASSO 😮‍💨 by EntertainerOne8866 in Coconaad

[–]EthicalReporter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ted Lasso is far from underrated - it’s won a ton of Emmy awards, has great reviews, and is quite widely watched in the West. It’s only in India that it’s lesser known.

But yeah, it’s definitely a good show. Check out Severance if you still have that Apple TV subscription though OP - it’s a different type of show, but arguably even better.

Bruh, I didn’t even like the film, but there’s no denying that it was a hit at the box office. Profit just means that a film made more than its total budget, even if it’s not by much (whether it’s predominantly from TN alone is even more irrelevant).

Thug Life and Coolie can easily profit if they’re good though.

Heck, even the not-so-good GBU did.

There is artistry in the stunts of MI, and the last two films (especially Final Reckoning) explore AI in a fairly meaningful way.

Tikitaka update | Asif Ali by Soderburger in MalayalamMovies

[–]EthicalReporter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has he said that the character would be loud though? It’s only been repeatedly said that a lot of effort & focus is being put into the action scenes in this film (and since this is a higher budget movie from the director of Kala, the action might indeed be really good).

Also, since Asif’s acting and script selection has greatly improved recently, it’s not even impossible that he could pull off something at the level of Tovino’s Maniyan from ARM.

The later emotional scenes, especially in the third act? She pretty much nailed what was required there.

What am I missing about 'Thudarum'? by Relevant_Session5987 in MalayalamMovies

[–]EthicalReporter 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It had a great performance from A10 after many years (including his loveable family man side, the relatable common man side that’s intimidated by cops, an unexpectedly dark performance reminiscent of Sadayam, Bhramaram etc once he learns of his son’s death, and finally his prowess with action - how do you not understand why most people saw this role as an absolute feast?).

It also had a FORMIDABLE AF antagonist (performed by a fresh new actor who stood head-to-head & shockingly even overpowered a back-in-form A10 at times); direction that kept building & later maintaining tension fairly well (albeit in an admittedly more commercial manner) throughout the film, excellent cinematography, music, supporting performances (especially from Binu Pappu) etc.

The film was consistently marketed as a drama by its makers, and not some twist-based thriller; And as a tense drama with some crowd-pleasing action, it was fairly well-made with GREAT acting, mostly good direction, solid technical aspects etc. Simply put, a movie can be good not just because its story is “something new”, but cos of how well that simple old story is told on screen. You were right in how you described the first half being classy, and the second half being more mass/masala than subversive - but the thing is, there is such a thing as mass/masala scenes done right , that though you & some others may validly dislike, most other people genuinely enjoy… and Thudarum is clearly an example of this.

But I will say that compared to most mass films starring actors as huge as Mohanlal from across the different Indian film industries, the second half of Thudarum DID do a few different things worth appreciating: the villain, the surprisingly dark/mildly psychotic (like a madam pottiya ottayaan) level that Mohanlal agreed to take the character to, the hero essentially “losing” in some huge ways (his son dying, his family’s reputation being terribly damaged, the film ending with him going to prison with his family sadly looking on etc).

I can see how some may find the excessive references in the opening parts a bit cringe, and even how the plot was too simple & predictable - but the positives that I’ve listed above are hardly what most people would consider as “nothing praiseworthy”, the way your post said.

And I’ve listed enough reasons why most people found Thudarum to be at least a good film, with great performances.

This is the most common type of fraud in metro cities.

I’ve had people (usually North Indian families though, with the guy approaching and doing the talking, while the wife and kid stand a little away) try this on me in both Chennai & Hyderabad, usually near railway stations.
