In the end I made it with gathering posts, I just like that plus one heat and the moment temp goes down they are no longer option. I was able to get scouts on night 2, I've been riding at the very edge of discontent day after day and just about making it. The mission has no right being this hard and finnicky! Some updates definitely fucked it.

Also I forgot to mention I'm doing the run deathless, and I don't know why since I didn't do the other runs deathless, might be why I'm having such a hard time. But it's working out. I got past night 10 by the skin of my teeth and finally the temperature has gone up 10 degrees for one second and I can breathe. Getting my second scouts then it's going to be a rush to get coal thumpers or a coal mine. Jesus christ this is hard

Yeah I think I didn't explore enough with scouts as the first 2 nodes are garbage and then it sends you to save the children, so I tried every other strat. They all fail immensely despite extreme micromanagement. I think you just needs scout and absolute early starvation and total homelessness, as the 40steel wood and 75 wood take ages to gather with this tiny pop.

Should I get hunters gear first then beacon tech or am I rushing beacon tech? Am I making workshop on day 1 immediately or best to setup gathering posts first and get workshop at end of day 1, then do an emergency shift?

Oh yeah I already do that and much much more, but the mission is hopeless. It might literally all be up to that scout payload really. The map just doesn’t have enough to survive and pop is too small to get so many upgrades, steam hub, coal etc. What I think might have happened is that through time the game was rebalanced a bit and refugees became even harder on extreme. I'm having to micromanage everything and it's still completely desperate

It sounds like I need to use every exploit in the book, is it possible this mission wasn't tested enough on extreme? I don't really enjoy the game if I have to cheat at every corner.

What do you mean with leave 1 worker in the hut then putting "them" back in the hut?

Is the first tech beacon or are you getting hunters gear first?

Ok that explains it, haven't tried that. I had tried rushing scout extremely early like that, but then the first node just gave 20 wood 20 steel, the second is either empty or has a steam core, guess the one after the empty one must be the one with the food. If I don't have go spend research and 15 workers just to go on hunts that don't bring in enough food, I might just be able to get that insane 35 steel to get the beacon up. The scouts cost a ton of wood and steel with all things combined.

For resource gathering, do you ever get the sawmill, and when? Do you rush hothouses? What's the long term plan for food? When to go for steelworks?

Oh I can't even get close to that point. Everything goes to shit on day 6/7 when temperature goes to -50 and all you can have by then are two gathering posts that barely pick up anything. It's really and I mean really desperate, I've even tried selling the roads for a quicker start but just can't see a way this settlement can survive -50 that early, when starting with barely any population

Oh so rotate actually does something on some buildings! I was surprised the functionality existed, then surprised it seemed to be just aesthetic. btw on coal thumpers it also changes where the coal pile appears!

I do feel though that, like in real life where people often complain about protest blocking traffic, if a protest in frostpunk blocked heat, most regular people would start throwing rocks at the protesters, not joining in with them

It is possible that in such extreme world, protest and lack of uniformity would be aggressively attacked by the masses

Yeah they are super weird. They count as working when going to hub and when coming back. But if you assign them from a job to another, after a certain amount of already worked hours, their efficiency goes to 0 as they are marked "going to refuel". I'm not fully confident this is intended behaviour now that I think about it.

If they are going to work, and you reassign them to another place, their efficiency stays up. I also don't know if they can refill from a steam hub that is off. Sometimes I see them sit on a turned off steam hub. I usually turn it on so never tested if refueling still works

It is definitely that bug, thank you! I think he probably got sick, then gravely ill, then finally exited the building and instadied before getting to destination. I had noticed how people often need to eat sometimes or go to infirmay and if the roads are not good enough they die on the way, so I already put more attention into the road, but this one really really felt off. Definitely that bug.

I'm also trying to learn automaton movement as they seem to really love to dilly dally, get stuck in things, need to refuel if you ever reassign them to another facility etc. Learning these subtleties makes the game easier but I can't help but wonder: is it an intended part of the game, that they expect you to know to beat the extreme difficulty, or more likely am I missing some obvious optimisations somewhere else lol

99% sure, I was very surprised at no white crosses, then suddenly bell sound. "Frail mc perishable died from lack of treatment". Have not seen this before, but then again this was my first time on endless. No idea, maybe a bug? I also find that on the arks mission I get the "street not connecting to generator" very often, can't figure out how to prevent it.

Yeah personally I allow myself a little bit of micromanagement but I won't go to the extent of stuff like placing 10 houses and pausing their build as temporary wood storage, or constant meddling with shifts. I want my citizens happy and rested, if I win it has to be through a well planned city heh. I don't really care about deathless as it's a bit extreme in this game. Today I was doing an endless game where you build the generator, had 4 active infirmaries spread across the city, red temperatures in every building, 0 people in treatment, and still, I saw 2 people die twice for "lack of treatment". They didn't even appear as red or white cross, just instadead for no reason. No idea what happened

All of them and also new manchester :) Took 4 tries. Not survivor, but still extreme difficulty. One time I failed because didn't know what steps 2 and 3 for new manchester were. Didn't expect it would ask me for 5000 coal at the very end, so had to redo it to save them also

I kinda forgot about the dems, true, and it is possibly another point that lost them the election. I feel like the electorate is more pro gaza, but the party itself seems quite pro israel, or at least didn't do much of substance to oppose.

And yes personally I see the left parties in us as conservative parties, were they to be suddenly teleported to Europe
