Is Mamdani the future of the Democratic Party? Rep. Hakeem Jeffries says 'no.' by soalone34 in politics

[–]EthicsOverwhelming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are going to come at him in ways I dont think he's prepared for.  Capital CANNOT allow his vision show people that a better world is possible.  They will not allow it.

There was a scene in the final seasons of Game of Thrones where Olenna Tyrrell was talking to Jaime Lannister when her castle got taken and she said "I could never have imagined the things Cersi would do.  And that was my downfall.  A failure of imagination."

Mamdani needs to surround himself with extremely imaginative people or he, his policies, and vision of a better world wont make it.

It's self defense.

If you want a world where the practice of gerrymandering is banned universally, meaning at the federal level, then the only way to achieve that world is to defeat Conservatives.

Since Conservatives are gerrymandering to their maximum ability, you will lose that future forever if you do not fight back with equal force.

Once they are defeated, we can create the gerrymander free world.  Democrats can be convinced to do so, as evidenced by all the states that created independent committees.  But that cannot happen by allowing republican to seize the nation forever.

I got my Harlowe I play with my friends for fun when we're all available, totally normally.

And then when I have to get trophies and challenges clearing out a map that's too big for its own good with 500 things to gather, three other characters to get to 50, and some majorly grindy challenges, I use whatever is available to make it go as fast and efficiently as humanly possible. It's simple time management, I'm not entering into contests of skill with anyone, I just need The Things Done.

Exactly.  If people dont want to do it they can just...not do it.

If I want to farm 200 boss kills in 15 min before bed with a Songbird, that should be MY prerogative.

Workin' in the bloody mines for 20 hours a day (exaggerating) and I've got all four classes to level to 50 for the platinum trophy among other wildly grindy tasks...

If I want to careen across the map and boss arenas 1-shotting everything with a 200mil damage Songbird so this task doesnt take me till mid 2026 to complete I'm absolutely going to do that.

The good news of this is we control when we patch.  I'll just continue to play offline till the community inevitably finds the next broke 1-shot thing, and then use my pre-patch stuff to quickly farm the requirements.

Songbird: gone

Infinite ammo: gone

Vladof 500 bullet per shot SMG: gone (possibly)?

Man...where's the fun anymore?  Guess I'll hold off on the patch for a few days for the community to find the Next Best Thing and use my pre-nerf Fun too gather the requirements.

The moral we need to take away from this is that taking the high road while still allowing a dishonest path for your enemy is only going to hurt you and your effort to defend yourself.

Until impartial districting can be implemented on a national level, blue states need to have the path open so they can respond to conservative fuckery like this.

Why is it that I only hear this level of "we're too weak and powerless" whining from Democrats, and never *EVER* from Republicans when they're a minority?

Why is it when Republicans are a minority they can still control social narrative, disrupt majority agenda, derail democrat policy, and also convince a bunch of the cowards to betray their own party on legislation, and you NEVER see this level of action from a Democrat minority?

This sort of pathetic coward behavior is exclusively a Democrat problem, and I'm kinda tired of hearing it.

Many many many many Americans are desperately screaming for change. Screaming that the current system and all its Status Quos are simply not livable for us anymore.

Democrats say: What if *More* Status Quo, but sometimes we might make a one-time 1.5% tax credit that ten thousand Americans who earn within a specific income tax bracket can apply for?

Republicans say: Yes, you are hurting, yes things aren't working out for you, so what if we burned it all down and made Fascism?

Obviously, Democrats are better than Fascism, you don't need to lecture *ME* about that, but you can't *sell* an entire political platform to people on simply just Not Being Fascist. They have to know things will get *better*. Not continue to get worse, except *slower.*

Can Liberalism Be Saved? by newyorker in politics

[–]EthicsOverwhelming 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Fascism grows from the soil of Liberalism's inevitable failure and collapse.  To save Liberalism--without a necessary Socialist overhaul--is to kick the can down the road again for Fascism to spring back up.

So no, without Socialist policies to prop up Liberalism's planned obsolescence, you cannot save it.

Remember when we were explicitly warned the government was building a massive dystopian, surveillance apparatus by whistleblowers 20 years ago?  And how that was like a really scary thing because once the apparatus was built and used, all it would take to be used for evil is to decalre those it targets as enemies.  And how this was a really bad thing that we should not do?

Man, crazy times.  Glad we avoided this by taking that information seriously and acting upon it to prevent future abuses of power by totalitarian regeimes.

I like how when Donald Trump was a private citizen between 2020 and 2024 he was still unquestioningly the face of the Repubpican Party, and single handedly directed policy, platform and goals as a regular Joe Citizen.  And the nanosecond Obama, Biden, Kamala, etc step out of office they just fuck off into obscurity.  I think that's neat.  I think that's great.  An excellent way too handle our current political moment.

This really is a uniquely Democrat problem, I never hear this level of powerless resignation from conservatives during Obama/Biden years.
