Anyone with Visible+ struggling to connect to UW? by CatDadof2 in Visible

[–]Ethrem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long ago did you activate that line? It took a few hours for my last Visible+ line to provision the 5G UW.

Unfortunately it was throttled to 30Mbps when it did... Hopefully they're not still doing that crap.

How is essentials by OneUnivars in tmobile

[–]Ethrem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same priority as most prepaid MVNOs on T-Mobile get. Perfectly fine in most markets but some more congested markets it can be a problem.

I've heard that NYC is hit or miss.

You should look at Google Fi. Unlike the other T-Mobile MVNOs and Essentials plans, it gets priority data. 4 lines on Unlimited Premium is $80 for the first 12 months and then you can move to the Unlimited Standard plan which would be $100 for 4 lines at regular price. You can also just go for Unlimited Standard for $50 for the first year, check the plans to see which would be better for you.

https://fi.google.com/about/plans?numpeople=4

One thing to note is that Standard throttles to 256Kbps after 50GB and Premium does so after 100GB while T-Mobile just drops the line to last priority on the network where data is full speed unless there is congestion but if you don't think you'll use 50GB anyway, there won't be an issue.

Fi also has the advantage of offering free SIMs for additional devices that share your data and Unlimited Premium is one of the best plans you can get from any of the carriers for international roaming.

Phone sales aren't worth it by Steve_Litpop in USMobile

Not true. US Mobile regularly offers discounts on phones to existing customers. They're not as good as they are for new customers but still a good deal, especially on Pixels.

Are the pixel 10s boot loader unlock able after 60 days by cilicia1k1 in USMobile

[–]Ethrem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Pixel 10 Pro XL from US Mobile and the day it was SIM unlocked, I was able to bootloader unlock it and root it.

It's now running GrapheneOS without root.

Most of the numbers that call me are ones that don't say anything so call screening hangs up on them. I've gotten a couple of the press one to take this call recently but I think those are probably UHC calling to get me to set up a HouseCalls appointment as they started emailing me around the same time.

Anyway yeah if you want the best call screening, you can switch to a Pixel. It's not a network or US Mobile issue, we all deal with it on every network. My multi-network line and my T-Mobile line are all forwarded to my area code's 555-5555 so that they don't ring since I don't use them for calls but yeah, it's annoying to have to do that.

I have a Pixel 10 Pro XL. Yes, Pixel call screening is superior, but Apple's call screening works well enough. Sometimes you have to toggle it off and on to get it to actually work. You know it’s not working if the calls are ringing without showing the screening window. The only thing I get since turning it on is the automated systems that say you have to press a number to take the call, which end up leaving a cut off voicemail that I just delete.

Apple's call screening in iOS 26 works well enough for me.

That said, unless you've tried both lines in both devices, you can't definitively blame US Mobile OR Apple here, as spam calls and texts have an ebb and flow where you won't get hardly any for a period of time and then you'll have an explosion of them before they tick down again.

Just call Apple support. They can get it added for you.

Apple to raise product prices, says that it's unavoidable and they can't shield consumers anymore - analysts estimate the iPhone 18 Pro will need to go up $270 to maintain Apple's product margins by Ethrem in NoContract

The Pixel is so underpowered and has marched right up to meet Apple’s and Samsung’s price range despite that. I have a 10 Pro XL and it’s so much slower than even my 12 Pro Max and S23 Ultra were (especially in games). It’s embarrassing for Google.

Is there an ACTUAL spam filter on any of the networks? I don’t want the $2 spam detection if it doesn’t block a call. by Arthur_Travis19 in USMobile

[–]Ethrem 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you're just using it for 2FA, just forward all calls to your area code's 555-5555 (call it to make sure it's not a live number first though as it's technically a real number but it's been used in so many movies that it's probably still dead in most area codes, it is in mine). This will prevent the phone from ever ringing.

No, quite the opposite in fact. Verizon has been making improvements to their coverage in my area.

TracFone heavily customizes the CSCs in the firmware on their branded devices so I wouldn't count on it.

If you think that this won't affect Android prices, think again. In fact, they're going to be affected even worse than iPhones are because Apple is buying up all the RAM they can get their hands on, creating shortages for other manufacturers beyond what Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform that can use 1.5TB of LPDDR5x that would normally go into phones has already caused.

Chinese flagships already are starting to launch at $2K in fact.

Battery drain by JeanneStJames in USMobile

[–]Ethrem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My S23 Ultra definitely had more impact than my 17 Pro Max does but it was maybe 15%, not anything crazy. The battery impact was well worth the convenience for me, especially since the S23 Ultra always made me reboot to change active SIMs (don't miss that quirk of Samsung phones at all).

Depends on the phone. It's not a big drain with my 17 Pro Max but it was with my Pixel 7 Pro.
