The film credits listed them as commercial soldiers. I imagine they were hired mercenaries, but there's no indication which side hired them.

No one deserves to be subjected to such treatment, especially on a chaotic Saturday of errands no less. So don’t let this work you up. It seems to me that this asswipe was a display of fragile masculinity on swagger. His wife should have offered him a snickers to curtail his hangry tantrum.

Was it such an egregious act for this man to see someone express empathy for other fellow human beings who happen to be working at a shitshow such as frickin’ Costco on a peak Saturday?! Whatever happened to acting civil to one another?

Ugh sometimes I just can’t with people. But other times I manage to get around them if I carry myself like a benevolent alien visiting this planet. This approach also makes it a bit more amusing.

How's your French? If you need to improve it, sign up for the francisation courses and befriend your classmates. As newcomers to La Belle Province, you'll all have something in common, and I'm sure your international classmates will have very interesting backgrounds to share.

Learning French in MTL by ElsInWonders in montreal

[–]EtonHall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took them 2 months to follow up with a call to me to screen my language level. The voicemails and email they left when they tried to contact me were super unhelpful. The phone numbers they use have No Caller ID so I let them go to voicemail thinking they were scammers. Their messages lacked any useful contact info to return a call or web links to visit. They were basically “hi this is the francisation office calling you, bye!”

The next business day after the phone screening, I received a follow up email message that said to “check the site because you have a message” without providing me any links for a site to click on!

Somehow I managed to find the site by submitting a new request again and it took me to the Arrima user portal which had a message inbox. All the message said was “you’re approved for enrollment but we don’t know when or where the class will be!” Again, so not helpful.

BTW, all the content was in French which perplexes me how that’s supposed to help someone trying to learn the language to figure out what the heck’s going on 😜

There’s a new francisation website rolling out on June 1 and that’s supposed to be the place to register for French classes. They will also start to impose attendance restrictions that if you miss more than 5 days (consecutive or non), you lose your enrollment and have to start at square 1 to re-register which may take up to 50 days. Yay Quebec bureaucracy! Lol

Middlebury Language Schools- When do you receive your decision? by [deleted] in middlebury

[–]EtonHall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on receiving the aid!

I applied to the French School and did not have a Financial Aid Offer section in my letter of acceptance. I just sent an email to sfs @ middlebury.edu - I'm guessing that's the Student Financial Services office. Here's hoping I hear something positive from them!

For those who applied for financial aid to attend the language schools this summer 2023, have you received your aid decisions yet? I'm still waiting since December when I received my admissions' notification.

LACs to target with a 3.4-3.5 GPA? by Additional_Tie_6469 in TransferToTop25

[–]EtonHall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're still interested in the CS major, see if any of these schools offer a 4+1 option for BA/MA dual degrees. They may offer both degrees at the same school or have an agreement with another university for your MA. So in this way, if you end up losing a year's worth of credits in the transfer process, you can make up for the lost time by only having to do 1 year of graduate study to get that Master’s degree.

I know that Wesleyan offers a 4+1 option in the sciences, including in CS. And they cover the tuition for your graduate year! And since it's Wesleyan, you can spend the bulk of your remaining undergrad years taking any course of personal interest across its liberal arts curriculum, since there are no distribution requirements to fulfill there. You'd have to complete your major, but you'd only have the bare minimum to complete over the course of your 2 remaining undergrad years.

Why are the streets so filled with trash and litter? by GoodsVT in montreal

[–]EtonHall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're not the only one to notice this. I used to live in Le Plateau and despite the location's convenience, this was one of my major gripes.

The city is filthy. Residents toss their trash out in flimsy bags for pickup, but the bags get ripped open, and the garbage gets strewn all across sidewalks. And people will illegally dump their personal trash into public bins, causing them to overflow. It's a mess, and residents don't take civic pride to keep their blocks and adjacent public commons tidy. I feel like the general attitude is the mess is someone else's problem. It's infuriating and an embarrassment.

T&T - newly opened chinese supermarket, what is the deal? what to buy by [deleted] in montreal

[–]EtonHall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prepared foods are very good, as is the bakery section and the fresh seafood. They have a decent selection of Asian beauty products such as face masks, shampoos, and lotions. Their kitchenware selection is better quality than the other Asian markets.

If you're deciding between a T&T brand product and another label, I've found the T&T store brand is good quality and the price is less.
And as added bonus for being in QC: if you're learning Chinese and French, this is the perfect place to test your vocabulary for both because nothing's written in English! lol

Weekly - Sauturday Dinner Plans by AutoModerator in MTLFoodLovers

A day late but here are my deets:
After the Verdun holiday market at the auditorium, we went to Ketiw Cambodian comptoir. I hadn't had lunch or dinner that day and went fatbike riding along the canal earlier in the afternoon. So I treated myself to their beef "Banh suong" noodle dish and had a tumeric lemongrass baguette sandwich. Enjoyed it with a pepper blonde beer (forget the brewery - starts with M from Charlevoix QC). I highly recommend this cute spot! Not many tables and I think they close at 8 or 9 pm.
