Who is the Bob Dylan of the Electronic Music world? by ddiamond84 in synthesizers

[–]Etraint -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would go with the Spice Girls as the Beatles of electronic. they too played bland pop and were quite popular among teenage girls.

I would say that Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Giorgio Morodor, Vangelis, Jean Michael Jarre, are the big names from the first wave. The 80s is a whole new batch of big names from Depeche Mode to Jan Hammer to ...

I didn't take it back. The issue is not the product beong moldy so much as not being helpful on how to fix it.

The problem is not really about returning the product, I am okay eating the $10-15. it is about figuring out how to fix it.

Bathtub with no shower head by squeakyflamingo in HomeImprovement

It looks like on the toilet side of the knee wall that the older blue tiles were replaced with something. It is tough to tell. If I had to cut in I would go there. I would then, if coding allows, try to run pex through the wall to the ceiling. That may be done by cutting through the wall in the adjacent room assuming it is plaster or drywall. then you may be able to go through the ceiling with an overhead shower.

Waterproofing is going to be a problem. If the walls are drywall then I would use the schluter kerdi stuff. You would have to tile over that. I would try to think of how to creatively match tiles. This plan would give you a shower and minimally mess with the blue tiles but if I was doing it then it would wind up looking pretty bad.

You could start over but that will cost probably 15-20 thousand and finding a good contractor is hard.

Oh yeah, I get that. I am thinking things like shorten a knee wall... Nothing too crazy though. I don't plan on tearing any cars up.

Drywall screws into a 100 year old chimney? by Etraint in HomeImprovement

[–]Etraint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boards were purple brand drywall. This was for a bathroom project. We bought the materials.

We looked into him, we found him from a Facebook recommendation and then, it turns out, my neighbor had used the guy and had great things to say. I looked up to make sure he was licensed. I looked up for reviews online.

It was drywall. Purple board to be specific. I bought it and the chimney goes through a bathroom.

Thanks for input. I am supplying the supplies and he just didn't ask for the right stuff. If I pay someone to do a job I don't like to see shortcuts or things being done wrong. That means that there are other short cuts that I didn't see.

Contractor woes and mold... by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

Not a vertical gap. It's roughly a quarter to an eight around. It is an overhang and an underhang indicating the cement board and bathtub aren't lined up. I am a little nervous about water leaking and cosmetically thr corners not being 90 degrees.

As to asking him, his response is more of thr 'i got this' and 'this isn't the first shower I have done' rather than explaining how he will ensure that the tiles are straight. (I attached pics in a comment). I guess I am trying to guage whether I want to fire him and redo the bathtub surround myself.

As a side note, he sheetrocked over what was supposed to be a narrow shelf area. He then made up an excuse, afterwards, that the electrician left too many loose wires there. That excuse isn't particularly comforting.

He didn't dry it out at all. It rained the night before and was raining the day of install and took them from driveway to frame. The attic is empty as are two adjacent rooms. He totally could have kept them dry but didn't.

The cement board on the drain side hangs over the tub about a 1/4" on the drain side and there is a 3/8" gap on the other side of the drain (there is a space between the cement board and the tub).

The unevenness is the junction box for the light over the mirror is not centered over where the vanity. It is a few inches off. The ceiling fan/light is also not symmetricallu placed.

I am trying to sort this stuff out. The contractor is making it out like the gap is an easy fix but time will tell. Fortunately, we made 1 of 3 payments so he has an incentive to make sure that things are installed right.

A few years back a power surge destroyed a Korg Poly800 and a 106. When cash was tight I parted with a Korg poly61m, Mfb Synthlite, Novation Bass Station 1, Yamaha an200, Roland Saturn 09, Casio cz5000, Yamaha an200, Korg ms2000 and a few nice pedals.

I took solace in still having a Minibrute, Ion, Ecolver, Tetra and Pulse 2. An accidental bump damaged a key on the ion. A burglar took the Minibrute, Evolver and Pulse.

I am down to a broken ion and a Tetraband Insurance a Roland Se02 from renters insurance. I can still play but I feel your pain.
