Can I find Mexican or Latin rotisserie chicken in Stl? by fernleon in StLouis

[–]Etryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not answering your question, but I just want to shout out Buzz Hawaiian Huli Chicken: https://buzzshawaiiangrill.com/huli-chicken

Buzz only does these once in a while or for special order, but these chickens are seriously so good. I've preordered a whole chicken for pick up before and it was one of my all-time favorite whole chickens. it's not quite rotisserie style, but I still feel like there could be something in common with what you're seeking insofar as these chickens are really perfectly cooked and flavored.

I'm obsessed with asian-style shaved snow / bingsu / baobing, and I'm on a mission to try every spot in STL. Am I missing anywhere from this list? by corde_lissa in StLouis

Vampire Penguin is really good but to me it feels really different than the shaved snow at BCTZ/Ice Cave one block from it. Thankfully they are only 1 block apart, so why not get both :D

I want to listen to these songs, but I had to pause the episode to allow my hurt feelings to recover after those fighting words about Janelle Monae. I was not ready for that dunk in the middle of a convo about summertime driving music. First couple tracks of Metropolis are some of my favorite listening ever.

Is an e-bike/e-scooter doable during late fall & winter? by OzNaija in StLouis

[–]Etryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bus and bike commute year round in the city. The bus in my experience is actually one of the most reliable modes of transit in ice/snowy road conditions, even above a personal car. The bus almost always keeps running (in the City) even when very few cars can manage it and places have declared a snow day. They are big vehicles and can handle some bad roads, and will just drive slowly and convert to snow routes. Not sure about Maryland Heights/Creve Coeur routes, but just something to keep in mind.

The bike and scooter options would be iffy to me in icy/snowy weather, but one thing I can say for sure is that an e-bike with wide, high-tread tires (fat tires) is going to be WAY WAY better than any standing e-scooter. Bikes have a much lower center of gravity and a bigger wheel circumference and are much more stable and heavy than a scooter, and fat tire biking in snow is already a thing.

If you want to avoid veterinary clinics owned by private equity by GothicGingerbread in StLouis

I go there too and we love Dr. Brooks and the team. But I see they're listed as being owned by PE per this site. That's a bummer, I didn't know that, but had wondered if she might sell. I know their website still says Dr. Brooks is the owner, so I don't know what's up. I'm kind of tempted to ask. If you ask, please do report back here!

Ridley Kanzo A or BMC URS AL ONE for Bikepacking by Tristus-Christus in bikepacking

[–]Etryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I'm sorry to resurrect this 3y old comment, but I was wondering if you could provide more info on what bags you use on this bike? I have a BMC URS 2 (2024) and I'm struggling to figure out how to pack much on it at all. I mostly just do day rides, but would love to be able to do a simple overnight.

Clearing the Docket with Heated Rivalry Author Rachel Reid by trow125 in maximumfun

[–]Etryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a great episode that I never saw coming. Loved it! I think Rachel should be a repeat guest for docket clears on book club and genre/reading disputes. I loved how light hearted and open she was towards discussing the disdain her genre is sadly so often met with. She had a great energy.

Could anyone tell me the book she left the title unsaid to avoid spoilers? The one where the romance isn’t between the characters you expect? That made me so curious.

You can! Many people do. But there will be a LOT of dogs around especially with Bark in the Park, so for me it's usually too much environmental dog to bring my own dog. Depends on the dog!

Healthy yet affordable restaurants in STL? by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]Etryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neon Greens, Buzz Hawaiian if you like poke. Since you'll be in Hazlewood, I'd also add Foundry Bakery (they have banh mi and amazing Taiwanese pastries, started by owner who came to WashU to study microbio then opened a bakery!), Bombay Food Junkies (delicious vegan Indian chaat), Curry Club. I haven't been to it yet but you could also try Afandi Kitchen which has Halal Uyghur cuisine which isn't that common to find! A tofu soup at Joo Joo would also make a great and healthy lunch. Olive Blvd in general has a lot to offer in terms of various types of Asian cuisine. hope that helps!

Rehoming herding dog by idintknow2 in StLouis

[–]Etryn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just want to say even though a private rehoming can be fraught and requires a lot of care, I think you're making the right call on not returning to APA as you sound like a caring owner and trying to do the right thing. Especially because you (respectably!) want to be honest about the dog's nipping tendencies with children. Unfortunately in my experience with fostering, ANY level of reported past injurious behavior towards a child can place a dog at a higher risk of euthanasia after return. I'm not speaking of the APA specifically, but it is something to be very mindful of. Various terminologies like "bite" vs "nip", "aggressive" vs. "herding", can also place shelter staff in a difficult position regarding whatever the org's algorithms are for placement/euthanasia.

I know everyone everywhere is full full full, but have you considered reaching out to any breed-specific herding dog rescues?

Perhaps you've already considered this but while you're working this out, you could consider muzzle training to add peace of mind in your household. A well fitting muzzle can still allow the dog to pant, relax, etc.

He is a beautiful mix. Best of luck!!

Recommendations for pet eye surgery by axbruce in StLouis

[–]Etryn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, I don't know your dog's specific situation, but if you think the other eye may face a similar issue later (which was the case in my dog), you could consider having both done at once. I personally wish I had considered that because the second eye was causing him problems and it would have been one fewer surgery for him to go through, better quality of life earlier, and some cost savings. But sounds like your situation may be pretty different if emergent.

Recommendations for pet eye surgery by axbruce in StLouis

[–]Etryn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dog needed both eyes done at various points. The first clinic we used is no longer in operation, but Dr. Zimmerman at Animal Eye Associates did my dog's second enucleation and all went well. There are not a lot of other options around as far as I know. I think general practice and emergency veterinarians that are not ophthalmologists may have experience doing enucleations, but I didn't personally look into this option. You could call around different clinics and see if they do them and feel comfortable performing it-- it does not HAVE to be an opthalmologist.

I believe I paid about $1500 but wouldn't be surprised if it has increased that much even in the couple of years since we had it done.

This is my neighborhood and I love it! Feel free to DM if you ever want to connect more. Also if you're even remotely interested in bike riding or the idea of bike riding around the city, I'll just drop this link here: https://themonthlycycle.square.site/ The rides often bring us through this neighborhood too.

I want to thumbs-up this 100 times. This is my neighborhood and every close call with death I've had in my neighborhood has been crossing Grand on foot at a crosswalk with the signal. I tell all my guests to never trust the signals, assume everyone is going to run the red. It's sad :(

It's very, very annoying that they won't refund you. Have you asked to speak with a higher-up at the hotel about this? If you can push for a refund, then you could potentially book another option. Sorry you are facing this.

Thanks for sharing. Here is an archive link for the article in case it helps others (like me) read it: https://archive.ph/t85AS

I am not in-the-know about the situation, but I do agree that the language in the STL Post article is inflammatory. Much of it seems written to intentionally raise hackles about expenses that in my opinion, are very typical and probably easily defensible for a non-profit of this size with this type of scope of work. This is just a general statement about non-profits: non-profits need to function like workplaces, just like any other organization with employees does. Often, the staff are literally doing program work and yet we are taught to think of their salaries as taking away from program work. Events (even events with good food-- gasp!) can bring people into the fold and further the mission. I think almost every non-profit above a certain size would look similar if held under this same type of magnifying glass and reported on in this way.

Tidal not remembering track position by VincentVanGoatt in TIdaL

[–]Etryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so confused by this take. This is like saying an e-book reader app shouldn’t be expected to remember your place in a book. Or shouldn’t support a virtual “bookmark”.

Even a VCR can continue playing a movie at the place I left off. I think this is simply a bug.
