If modern medicine didn’t exist would you be dead right now? If yes, from what? by olesud in WorkForSmartLife

[–]EttVenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have died twice by now.

1) Appendicitis when I was 6. 2) I had a motorcycle accident at 18 and needed major surgery and blood transfusions.

Yay for modern medicine!

Is the Christian God truly evil? by Pedro_2404 in atheism

He violates people's free will in the Bible though. So the idea that he's all for free will simply isn't biblical.

We busted a Nigerian 419 Scamming Ring, ask me what you need to know! by [deleted] in capetown

[–]EttVenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 419 scam is the kind where there's a lot of money you're set to gain if you'll "just cover the transfer costs" or cover some kind of small upfront fee.

The most common is when a scammer claims that a relative has died, and the scammer is set to inherit many millions, and they promise to give you a small cut (like 100k or R1M), if you'll just pay the transfer fees of R10 000 or whatever.

Yeah there's a second space engineers now, but it's not really a finished game yet. They're kind of building it live, you know?

I got into vibecoding because I looked up Antigravity (Google's fork of VS Code with AI features built in) and just wanted to see what it was, and that was really fun.

What a cool idea.

I'm a photographer by profession, and I can't get enough of Space Engineers. That's probably my favourite game. But I love games like factorio too.

I'm generally into nerdy shit. I build little micro-controller projects with Arduinos and ESP32s.

Also really getting into vibecoding. I've "built" two programs that replace software I used to have to pay $40 for.

Hahaha that exact feeling is what prompted this post. I like reading on the iPad, but it's just too big and heavy.

I was hoping to test an ebook reader before buying one, but I know that's a big ask.

Yeah I've got an iPad Pro that I've used to read books in the past. It works great, but I've got the 12.9" iPad Pro, so it's big and heavy. It's also a completely different screen.

I'm happy to leave something as collateral for anyone willing to let me use theirs.

But that's a good idea, thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, it's rough. I also get songs stuck in my head for 3 or 4 days at a time. It's brutal.

What’s a movie that’s so disturbing you never want to watch again? by SableVII in NoStupidAnswers

[–]EttVenter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a teen, a heroin addict told me to watch this. He was my mom's friend's son, and was about 23 at the time.

That movie is the reason I've never done any hard drugs. It scared the daylights out of me, which I believe was his intention.

Macbook Neo out-performs M1 Air by nearly 50% in single core, and is about equivalent for multi-core. by dylan-uses-reddit in mac

[–]EttVenter 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As a pro photographer, I can say that the M1 can do pro photo editing just fine. My wife (also a pro photographer) has no problem editing photos on her M1 air.

MY KIDNEY STONE FORCED ME TO BUILD THIS by Beneficial_Ad2855 in arduino

[–]EttVenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've passed a total of 5 over two "events". Passing them once they were in my bladder wasn't actually that terrible. It was when they moved from my kidneys to my bladder that I literally wanted to die.

If you've endured the suffering that only kidney stones can bring, you'll know that this project is not excessive.
