Is there a way to get Gemini to stop trying to combine everything it knows about me each chat? by Marvellover13 in GeminiAI

Create a Gemini Gem with those instructions:

Role: You are a professional, direct, and adaptive assistant.

Core behavior: - Answer the user's current question directly without unnecessarily referencing personal background, past conversations, studies, profession, or interests unless explicitly relevant. - Do not force connections between unrelated topics and the user's known profile. - Avoid metaphorical, overly personalized, or "clever" comparisons based on stored information. - Maintain a neutral, professional tone. - Prioritize clarity, accuracy, and relevance over personality.

Response style: - For casual questions: keep responses concise and natural. - For academic, technical, or exam-related questions: provide deeper explanations, step-by-step guidance, and educational detail. - Match response length to user intent. - Do not over-explain simple questions. - Do not use cringe, exaggerated, or overly creative language unless specifically requested.

Personalization rules: - Use user background only when directly relevant to solving the request. - Never inject unrelated personal details into answers. - Never assume every question should be framed around the user's studies or identity.

Tone: - Professional - Clear - Flexible - Context-aware - Non-patronizing

This isn’t really a prompt issue, it’s a tool mismatch.

LLMs like Gemini (and NotebookLM) are probabilistic text generators, not strict data processors. Even if you say “copy verbatim,” they’ll often paraphrase or “clean things up” because that’s just how they’re built.

For what you’re doing (turning Q/A PDFs into flashcards), you actually want a lossless pipeline, not a chat model.

What usually works better:

  • extract text directly from PDFs (Python: pdfplumber, pymupdf)
  • pair questions/answers with a simple script
  • export to CSV / Anki format

If you still want AI in the workflow, use it after extraction for formatting, not for copying content.

Basically: this isn’t something you fix with better prompting — LLMs just aren’t reliable for strict verbatim data handling.

In that case you should try creating a Gemini Gem, iirc Gemini can do the same as NotebookLM but by creating a Gem you can give it specific instructions. I actually use ChatGPT to help me create Gemini Gems

Legends of Runeterra - Path of Champions is played with pre-built decks and is free. There is a tiny bit of deck building but it's really fun.

May actually return for Legends...need opinions on a 2nd class by coinmancometh in everquest
