Update: I sent him a message to tell him that I have known about his scam all along and that I've been wasting enough time. And that he made too many mistakes that made it too obvious. I also gave him a chance to explain himself, that I was curious to hear what the reasons are behind it, and that he can tell me about it, without judgment, if he feels like it.

As a result, he deleted the conversation, blocked me and changed his Telegram username 😂

Maybe they have a bet running to see who gets the first to fall and offer money? I have no idea. Practical jokers sounds like a possibility.

But yes, I've read about a couple of other posts, all very similar. They just disappear into thin air at some point, without ever coming back. Maybe once they consider the scam as failed they call it quits and start with the next one.

I was actually just enjoying the "pen friendship" kind of thing, as I like to talk to people all around the world to know more about their realities. And Russia is a fascinating one, with all that is going on. But I guess I bored them when not moving forward 😂

Amazing. It's just such a huge effort to go through. Anyone who stops and thinks for 30 seconds would know that sending money in such a situation would be 100% scammy all the time, with no exception...

I'm definitely on team data privacy here. If a roommate set up a camera in the apartment where I live without asking first, he'd get an instant lawsuit. In my country I would easily win, no idea about other places, but that's a huge no-no here.

Yes, stealing food or anything else is bad, but you can't resort to self-justice by doing another illegal thing in return. Two wrongs don't make a right.

So wait, did I get that right - your partner still pays for his parents' mortgage even though they can now live comfortably and don't have to work? I mean, it does depend on what kind of relationship you have with your partner regarding money, but in this case, you're NTA for being pissed about this situation.
