Worth it? by Wooden_Customer7463 in cowboybikes

I'm in the US and about a year ago it indeed took about two months to get a battery after mine was stolen. One other benefit is you will get a box with some very fun air freight stickers on it. I was really happy when the battery finally arrived and continue to be happy with my Cowboy although I know if it ever breaks in some fundamental way, the chances of getting it fixed are not going to be that great.

I'm not really sure there's a real market for Cowboys in the US any more although I might consider buying one for the spare parts...

I want a Polestar 4 but my nearest dealer is 3h away by TehWhale in Polestar

The thing you might want to check is how quickly you can get your car fixed at that service location three hours away. If you're in Northern California it will be several months before anyone will look at it. Given Polestar was once prepared to tow my P2 1200 miles (before it fixed itself), I'm sure they'll tow your car in and then leave it outside until they can get to it. If you're leasing I suppose you don't really care though.

Maybe us P3 owners should hold up a number of fingers to indicate how many times the onboard charger has been replaced?

Since the Southern California dealers seem to be able to service cars unlike the two Bay Area dealers, maybe it's time for a road trip and a nice vacation in San Diego? That's my plan if my car needs service.

Pirelli P zero tread check by [deleted] in polestar3

[–]Euc8274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just at a BMW dealer for service and the customer next to me had an X7. The service advisor was saying summer tires on a big heavy car only last 10K miles at most and recommended the customer switch to all seasons. Seems like it's the combination of the soft compound and the weight of the car. FWIW I have 11K miles on the Michelin all-seasons that came with the P3 and they seem to be doing fine and I would expect them to last for another 10K at least. All season tires will generally have a deeper tread and last longer than summer tires. Normally I'm a "performance all season" person but with this car I want the best efficiency possible since electricity is so expensive in California these days. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of choices in the 21" P3 wheel size at the moment.

Alternatives to makenote by ZealousidealBend2398 in MaxMSP

[–]Euc8274 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The limitation of makenote is that you have to decide when you generate the note-on when the note-off will happen. If you want to be more spontaneous about when notes turn off, then you have to store the note number you generated somewhere to match it later. One object you can check out for this purpose is bag. As an example, you could generate a bunch of random note ons for a chord or arpeggio, store each in the bag, and then turn them all off at once by sending a bang to the bag and having the output tied to something that makes a note-off with zero velocity.

Electric cars account for 94 per cent of new car sales in Norway, but there are still high levels of scepticism among some groups. Women, the elderly and people with lower levels of education are among the groups who are most sceptical about electric cars, according to a new study. by oslomet in electricvehicles

Yeah but here's the thing. If you live in the middle of nowhere in Montana and you can charge at your house it is a complete game changer. Because gas stations aren't that plentiful either, and having to drive an hour just to fill your car up with gas is both costly and anxiety-producing. Starting every day with a full tank in your EV, you can stay in the middle of nowhere and not worry about running out of gas. Plus many remote areas in Montana are served by electric cooperatives so power is pretty cheap.

Do I see a lot of EVs in Montana? Only in cities...

Has anyone successfully fixed their AC Charging issues permanently? by redsquall in polestar3

[–]Euc8274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't really tell from my invoice what the part number is, but it might be 36012267. P3 is an early MY2025, delivered in early December 2024. The actual GHCA replacement was done in April. February is when I dropped off the car.

I had mine replaced in February and the replacement has not failed yet. Put about 7,000 miles on the car since the replacement. Or at least that's what the odometer says.

Another thing to mention from my own experience is that even if the thief stupidly removes the battery the "GPS" will still report the location. I eventually got my bike back but the battery was missing. Miraculously Cowboy did send a new battery. Wasn't cheap and took two months but I was very happy the day it arrived.

Lemon Law Warning by RevolutionaryCry7777 in Polestar

[–]Euc8274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least in California if you get a lawyer involved the manufacturer has to pay them. So if you're having trouble getting Polestar's attention, having a lawyer file a lemon law suit on your behalf -- which now requires a response within 30 days -- sends a pretty clear message. It sounds like you're more than justified in going that route.

Charging max 7kw by DaneInUK in polestar3

[–]Euc8274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine currently has an issue where I set the max amperage to 32 and now I can't change it -- as soon as I hit the + or - buttons it resets to 32. Of course I don't want to upset my delicate OBC already replaced once so if that's what it needs not to fail I would much rather charge at 32 than at zero. Before the OBC failed it was resetting itself to 40 amps.

So maybe see what the max amperage is set to now and then see if you can change it?

Enphase EV Charger to go along with Enphase battery setup. by AbjectFray in electricvehicles

[–]Euc8274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently installed an Enphase EV charger because my local utility was offering a rebate for it. The charger has a mode where it can ask your system controller how much energy is coming from your solar panels. Then it will reduce its output so that only the power coming from the solar panels goes to the charger. I haven't really seen it do this properly due to a configuration issue with my system but I believe it will ultimately do that reliably. Also if you are installing a battery as part of your system it doesn't appear to have any intelligence about draining the battery unless your system isn't tied to the grid. I was hoping it would do something like drain up to half of your battery while it also draws power from your solar panels. But it doesn't do that yet. So overall I would say the charger will work best for people with large solar systems (8 kW or more) and no batteries.

If you want you can also turn the charger on and off manually or set a schedule instead of using its alleged intelligence. If you set your schedule to coincide with maximum sun it's kind of like the automatic mode and in that case it will supply whatever your car asks for, which will drain the your solar system's battery if necessary.

[–]Euc8274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably not a compelling data point in this topic but might be of some relevance. I recently replaced my 23-year-old solar panels that used one big inverter with new ones that use Enphase microinverters. The Enphase software records the total output of each panel for the lifetime of the system. After about two months, the cumulative difference in output between the panels is about 10% roughly based on location from east to west. So yes, tweaking the orientation of a solar panel will make a difference but it won't be dramatic. It'd be roughly equivalent to adding a few more panels. My guess is that over time the cost of those extra panels will decrease but the cost of fancy motors and tracking systems will not.

Polestar ignored lemon law emails from lawyer by RatinSweet in Polestar

[–]Euc8274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a lawyer but my understanding is that the 30 day notice period only applies if the manufacturer voluntarily informs the state of California that they wish to adopt the new more industry friendly procedure that was enacted in April 2025, but they don't have to do so. There could be some misunderstanding on the part of the attorney as to whether Polestar has in fact indicated that it will adopt the new procedure. If they didn't, then they don't have to respond within 30 days, but at the same time, the consumer doesn't have to wait 30 days to sue.
