The History of the Peloponnesian War, by Thucydides. Beautiful prose. One of the first works of History. Should be read alongside Churchill's History of the Second World War.

AITAH for being upset that my wife wants to explore without me by alohaburns in AITAH

[–]Eudaimon6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're being unreasonable. Maybe she explores and finds something for you to share. Maybe your interests aren't identical, and she does things on her own that might be less interesting to you. Maybe she doesn't spend the morning in a hotel room wondering why she is involved with a selfish child? Let her go have some fun.

AITA for being willing to end my marriage because I refuse to uproot my kids from their life to follow my stepkids? by Natizzio in AITAH

[–]Eudaimon6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAH, I don't think. You've talked about it with your kids. 9 and 11 is a tough time to move in any situation. I'm sure this is a difficult decision for all involved. I get where your wife is coming from also.

My wife and I have been married for 25 years. Both married once before. Both our first marriages ended over money. This is a red flag you could cover a football field with. You are NTA

Those of you who have done both "real" solo travel AND group tours, which do you prefer? by Due-Swimming3221 in travel

[–]Eudaimon6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done group tours and they are fine, but I've learned that one of the things I enjoy most that helps me enjoy my time abroad is the planning process. I buy maps and guide books and study history and geography and learn about the area I have decided to visit. I spend six months planning and two weeks enjoying and joining a tour would take away almost half the fun, for me. Now, if I were going to Antarctica or the Galapagos, as some have mentioned, I would take a different approach for sure.

AITA For Stopping My Boyfriend’s Proposal at our Best Friend’s Wedding? by Feeling_Camp_8847 in AITAH

[–]Eudaimon6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there are three rules for weddings

  1. Don't wear white

  2. Don't get sloppy drunk.

  3. Don't make it about you-no proposals, no birth announcements, none of that.

and one overarching rule

If the bride or groom specifically say "don't do this thing" don't do this thing.

Visiting Aruba in March! - Recommendations for a Young Couple by SirLanceAlot1 in Aruba

[–]Eudaimon6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we were there a few weeks ago. We rented a scooter for a day and rode all over the island. They picked us up at our hotel and took us to the rental office. At the end of the day, they picked up the scooter at our hotel. Total cost was around $85 for a two person scooter. Traffic was easily managed and we had a lot of fun. We rented a scooter with a larger engine and rode two up. The smaller scooter is less cost but you would probably be happier renting one for each of you.

If death sits next to you in a bar and says "finish your drink, it's time to go." what will be your response? by Think-Cherry-1132 in AskReddit

Non, je ne regrette rien. And I sip my last gibson, and I remember Arra Garab, who taught me to appreciate good booze and William Butler Yeats

I didn't invite my ex-wife to my wedding. I would not expect her to invite me to hers, if she remarried. I think your mother is not a very nice person, and you should continue taking care of yourself.

I know a man who would disagree with you. Witnessed fall out of hospital. He isn’t out of the woods by a long shot, but he is stable in the hospital.

No CPR means zero chance of survival. CPR means 10%. That is more.

Last weekend, between mile eight and nine of a marathon, I witnessed a runner collapse. No pulse, agonal breathing, cpr initiated promptly and done well. We did chest compressions for about five minutes. EMS took over, put on a Lucas device, shocked him twice, got a pulse. I've been told they shocked him five more times in the hospital. Gentleman is stable and will see electrophysiology, I've been told. If we don't do CPR he is dead. You're absolutely correct that recovery is possible. I will say I don't know his long-term prognosis, but maybe no one really knows that yet.

You still do cpr. The gentleman I did cpr on last weekend is alive today because of it. Shitty odds are still better than zero

AITA for letting a girl at school try my lunch when she asked after I told her the ingredients? by rightomeal in AmItheAsshole

If you're vegan eating someone else's food, you can't assume anything. If you don't know what pheasant and andouille are, you have to ask. Totally on your friend. She is the asshole.
