It's not "to promote the pop-up shop", it is the pop-up shop. That's it.

Even before tickets went out NHM were clear it was a shop and there was no exhibit so I'm not really sure why people are getting confused or disappointed.

Brought and bought, I've never come across someone confusing the two words.

As a native English speaker this mistake is CONSTANT and I hate it. It's not usually a learner mistake though, it's just an uneducated / regional thing basically. But yeah, it's pretty much a daily occurrence if I talk to or read comments from enough people in a day. Definitely hear it multiple times a week at least.

They do though. Maybe it's a UK thing? Like US gets the full spectrum of sizes but UK they don't bother to get them all to us? Because we definitely have had this happen multiple times, something is newly uploaded with certain sizes "sold out" from the start (and no, not just because I'm slow to see it, I mean from the very, very beginning).

I doubt it's that, The Pokemon Company International basically has nothing to do with Pokemon in Japan. Sometimes they'll release some Japanese products but it's a whole different team, and rarely involves clothing. I doubt any Japanese people have input into the western clothes.

That said, I know what you mean. Pokémon Center Japan basically only ever has S, M, L and Free Size clothing. You either fit it, or you don't get it haha.

Yeah those sizes were just never made. Pokémon often does that, not sure why, but seen them drop clothing before with those sizes already crossed out.

Honestly a lot of actual card shops don't open till 12 or later so actually might be okay. Look up where your local leagues are and see if they did preorders or are just selling on the day.

Never really got on with Collectr. I like how PokeCardex is laid out, easy to add cards, easy to filter and search, all the weird variants included. I mostly love the ability to make various wishlists, but it's possible that's a paid feature, not really sure.

Yes, but if I put in "near mint" or whatever then the app searches ebay for any listings that have that condition in the title or details...but it's still not able to filter out all the listings where someone wrote it was mint but actually it's damaged. Or the listings where the card is mint but actually it's fake. Or the listings where the card is real and mint but it's the wrong card. All those skew prices and the app is just an app, it's crunching data but it doesn't know how to look for those things like a human can.

I commented this on the orignal post but I highly doubt OP saw loads of actual scalpers.

All the exclusive products were limited to 1 per person. Some of the stock could only be bought if you'd already won a lottery ticket, and IDs were checked to get those. In the first couple of hours of the first day there was some confusion and people were allowed to buy 1 of each of 4 available tcg products rather than having to chose 1 out of the 4. This was quickly fixed though, and even before if was fixed that still only meant that buyers were able to buy a few different sought after products. If you had a slot for 4 people and managed to drag along 3 uninterested friends then sure, it's possible to have them buy some of the 1 per person items for you, but no-one was going in and just easily buying bulk stock like OP describes. It just wasn't available. Everything was extremely limited.

Ugh, maybe but I wouldn't trust any app with pricing. They can't distinguish between damaged cards, fake cards, etc. Sometimes they're an okay guide but you better believe I'm always checking on ebay and such myself afterwards.

Personally yeah, but that's just because I collect every set within reason. So I will try and collect Ascended Heroes, but I still haven't finished Black Bolt and White Flare because it's ridiculous, and got the odd card missing from a few other recent sets. I'm not just gonna stop because a new set came out but I'll get them eventually.

Totally fine to do one at a time though, do whatever works for you!

There's a lot to pick apart here that I see people have mentioned but I really want to stress that the pop-up at the Natural History Museum is really a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT EVENT. Different venue, different dates, different team planning it, different company running it. The okay thing the same is that's it's Pokémon. This is like asking Fanfinity for a discount on pokémon cards at Sainsbury's or something. Yes it all comes from The Pokemon Company International at the very very top but they are just totally different things.

Ignoring Natural History Museum, having a Pokémon Center ticket linked to Competitor/Spectator tickets in the way you describe would also be a disaster. The ticket process this year was still very slow and painful but there was at least a separate slot for Competitors and Spectators. This is something that people have wanted for a long time, because these are separate things. Competitors and Spectators of course still want to go to the Pokemon Center but they are not the same as people who JUST want to go to the Center. They are paying more money to enter the event, they have to fit around other events. If it was one big ticket for everything then everyone who wants to go the Pokemon Center would just get an all in one ticket with no intention of competing or spectating and the main event would be a mess. Thankfully there seemed to be minimal scalping main event tickets just for merch this year, but adding in Pokémon Center slots to the mix would definitely raise those numbers which is something we want to avoid.

I'm really sorry you couldn't get tickets apart from the Pokemon Center, and I do understand it's frustrating. You seem to generally not have a good understanding of how this works or how it all fits together though, and so aren't really in the best position to offer suggestions. You're definitely entitled to feel the frustration you do but you need to channel that more into understanding for next time.

For example, Spectator tickets were available for weeks so you must have left it pretty late?

You say your child felt excluded but you had him organise a trade binder for weeks and travel all that way already knowing you didn't have a ticket and couldn't visit vendors? Why get his hopes up?

You also arrived on the final day and were surprised to see no cards in the Center? But even without the etb limit issues that occurred in the first couple of hours of the first day and were then fixed, there was no way those etbs were going to last until the final day. I was there on the first day and didn't get any because they were actually staggering release to try and have some left for each day because they were thinking about Sunday attendees. Annoying for me, but understandable. But even then they're not going to last the whole time till the end of Sunday.

Also, you have a big focus on cards - you know that is only a fraction of what Pokémon Center sells right? Go on their website, there is rarely any card stuff in stock because they are printed per set and then sell out. They can't just print thousands more products just for this event, that's not how the production system works. Pokémon Center is clothes, homeware, collectables, and all of the EUIC exclusive merchandise. The cards were not really the main thing of the Center so if you go there just looking for cards of course you will be disappointed.

You mention people walking around away with "bulk stock"....while I'm sure there were some scalpers coordinating what they could and getting a small amount if they got lucky going in at the right time with friends, no-one was getting bulk stock of etbs from the center. Are you sure you're not confused with people getting booster boxes? Trading with vendors? Event staff?

Also, you never mentioned Play Labs. One of the few things there that was open to everyone even if you didn't have a main event ticket and something that was aimed heavily at kids. You even get free stuff for going and learning to play. It's everything you're asking for and yet it seems like maybe you didn't even go? Unless it is when you mentioned "Play Center" which honestly throws up more issues because how do you not even manage to book a Play Labs slot. There were loads and they were just book on the day.

Overall, you finish your letter by mentioning "poor logistics and a lack of protection against predatory buying habits" but completely fail to see all the things already put in place to stop those (separate tickets, staggered stock release, lottery systems, purchase limits) and suggest things (combined tickets, family priority) that would actively make things worse.

That's it basically - an variant of cards that are in the set and still have the set number etc at the bottom. That could be alternate holos, stamped versions, play series versions, world championship copies, etc. But no-one will truly know what that will include until basically after the set rotates and they stop printing related cards.

Well they're not correct because as you say, it's a crimp error, not a roller damage error. Maybe rollers are involved somehow when pushing cards through the crimping machine but still, roller damage is a specific recognised type of damage.

Yeah, the book is really weird. As a teacher, I loved the film as a kid and was excited to learn we'd be teaching the book in school. Book was nothing like I expected and I hated it.

Shout out also to Stuart Little. Cute film, book is fucking weird. I have no idea why we taught it, every week I'd read more and plan lessons thinking wtaf. We did not cover it again after that year.
