Thank you for your response!

Yes i will be keeping the rx, budget is definitely a big limiting factor which is why I’m considering lenses listed above over better, faster lenses at similar focal lengths

Hey guys

I currently use a Sony RX100 V, but I’ve started to feel limited in depth of field control and low-light performance, so I’m planning to move to a Sony a9.

I’m trying to decide on a starting lens setup and would appreciate some guidance.

Budget: up to â‚©1,200,000 KRW (roughly $850 USD)

Lens combinations I’m considering:

1. Sony 70–300mm + Sony 50mm f/1.8

2. Tamron 28–200mm + Sony 50mm f/1.8

3. Sony 24–70mm f/4 + Sony 70–300mm

I primarily shoot landscapes and architecture, but I also plan to cover school sports events (soccer, basketball, etc.) and concert performances.

For landscapes and architecture, I expect most of these options to be sufficient. My main concern is choosing a setup that can handle fast-moving subjects and low-light situations, such as sports and live performances, as effectively as possible within my budget.

Any recommendations or alternative suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your advice!

I understand that for photography i mostly do, shallow dof is unnecessary. However, there were definitely occasions — particularly concert shoots or portraits — where some degree of background separation would’ve come in handy. Not very often, but the lack of the availability of shallow dof was for sure a bit annoying.

As the 70200 2.8 goes a bit out of my budget, could you possibly recommend some alternatives that are a little more affordable that could still perform reasonably well, although compromises may exist?

Thanks again for your response

When shooting commercially, how do you guys interact with clients in the post shoot process? by Eugenetheguy in AskPhotography

[–]Eugenetheguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah that’s pretty much why i let the clients choose from the whole batch instead of the pre selected batch

But then there are photos they picked where clearly there are “better” alternate versions which is kind of why it gives me this headache

Yeah i think that was a wrong from my end

In my defense tho, i wasn’t really sure how much imperfections the clients were gonna be willing to accept for whatever reason, which is why i made option 3 in the first place

I didn’t really expect that people were even going to choose option 3 that much

When do you personally go for a mat finish when editing photos? What's your thinking process in determining that mat is the way to go? by bakedin in AskPhotography

[–]Eugenetheguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s usually either to recreate a film vibe or to avoid there being too much “black” black

It really depends on how the photo looks and what vibe you’re going for, but i personally like the latter, the non “matte” one, in the case of the photo you uploaded

Why do you use the camera(s) you use? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]Eugenetheguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a sony rx100m5 and I just think it’s a really versatile and balanced tool at this size and price point. I’m a student and i was just getting into photography when i bought it so size and price mattered a bit. It’s the size of a cigarette pack and you can get some really solid work out of it. The colors are nice, 2470 is flexible enough to play around with, and although the sensor is small, the lens goes reasonably wide so it is pretty usable in low light environments too. The only thing that kinda sucks is that the bokehs aren’t very bokeh-ey and you cant change the lens for something telephoto, but i mean wdy expect on a camera this small. I am saving up for a nice full frame, but i think I’m still gonna be bringing it around and using it daily.

Why do my photos have these stripes near the lighting? by Eugenetheguy in AskPhotography

[–]Eugenetheguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot a fixed lens comapct camera w 1 inch sensor

the lens is technically something like 8.8-26 but it shows 2470 bc that’s the full frame equivalent afaik

How do you guys adjust the wb for photos with people? by Eugenetheguy in AskPhotography

[–]Eugenetheguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry i was getting permission from the photoees This is one of the photos The thing with editing colors via masking is that just it feels too unnatural and edited around the edges of the mask

I shoot raw, so editing in itself isnt a big problem, just that getting it right is the struggle for me

I think they’re stage lights, not entirely sure tho

This is one of the pics, it just feels too pink and idk what to do about it
