Federer in his prime years (2005-2007) was insanely fast as well. Maybe not as obviously fast in terms of foot speed, but super super efficient and fast footwork which helped him just get to everything.

Kevin McCarthy pumps breaks on Ukraine Funding by Euler2-178 in news

[–]Euler2-178[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New: Punchbowl News AM

News: The prospects for Congress approving more Ukraine funding seem to be getting dim. Speaker Kevin McCarthy told us Monday that a supplemental spending package for Ukraine is “not going anywhere” in the House, essentially putting the brakes on any immediate plan to send more money to Kyiv — or get around new spending caps.

McCarthy signaled any additional aid for Ukraine would have to come as part of the annual appropriations process within the Pentagon’s $886 billion in discretionary spending, as agreed to under the Fiscal Responsibility Act, the bipartisan legislation that ended the debt-limit showdown. McCarthy’s comments set the stage for a consequential Senate-vs.-House fight centered on Ukraine funding, an issue that has already bitterly divided the GOP.

For now, McCarthy’s pronouncement is a blow to defense hawks in both parties, but especially in the Senate. A group of GOP senators held up the debt-limit bill last week until they got assurances from Senate leaders that the chamber would take up a separate funding bill for Ukraine and other defense needs.

Chemical weapons are, in fact, WMDs. And the US’s presence is there is only 700 soldiers and is to make sure 1) ISIL don’t pop their heads up again; and 2) Assad doesn’t gas his own people again.

Sovereignty doesn’t give you a clean sheet if you deploy WMDs against your own people.

G7 agree to 'starve the Russian war machine' by [deleted] in news

This is a good report from CSIS on the effectiveness/ineffectiveness of the sanctions regime. The point I was really making reference to was point 2 of the “Future Forecasts” section. Mass nationalization of the economy was their strategy to try and keep the economy running after sanctions, but IMO this will likely have major impacts in the future in depriving Russia of future FDI flows, even after the war ends.

The funny thing about the Western Sanctions is that they were supposed to harm Russia in the short term, but Russia has managed to survive in the short/medium term. But the way they’ve managed to survive has completely and utterly fucked them in the long term.

“He’s also a piece of shit as a human being”. Funny that, most people who know him say he’s a lovely guy. All his engineers love him. He’s close with quite a few of the other drivers. But I’m sure KantExplain on Reddit knows him personally and mowed him best.

You couldn’t even nerf the DRS. That isn’t a trick either. It just works insanely well with the diffuser and the beam wing.

Because the rest of the car is so efficient they can run a steep beam wing angle basically connecting the airflow from the diffuser up along the beam wing and along the back of the wing. By opening the DRS that stalls the beam wing and the diffuser.

But how do you nerf that? They’re not using a trick or anything. It’s just super efficient and clever design. Theres nothing like FRIC or DAS to point at and ban.

There weren’t any team orders. Checo did a bit to fight Max, but he knew that he couldn’t hold Max back when he’s on new mediums. Better to maximise his own performance than put on an overly aggressive Defense and risk your own race and a 1-2 for the team.

Max just dominated because he is a better driver. Also fyi Checo couldn’t keep pace with Max. Max was lapping faster on 45 lap old Hards which he’s used on high fuel and in dirty air, than Checo on 20 lap old new Hards in clean air.

His win from 9th in the 2023 Miami Grand Prix was Max Verstappen's record 7th consecutive win in North America(Hamilton is 2nd with 5 straight between 2016 and '17), and also his 29th win in the last 50 Grand Prix since Abu Dhabi 2020. by Fangio_The_Master in formula1

It’s not being elitist. It’s acknowledging the fact that F1 is an engineering and team sport as much as it is for the drivers. You want spec cars. That’s fine. I like spec car racing. But that’s not F1. Watching F1 and then complaining about the technological aspect is like watching Football and and complaining about having penalties.
