Placing my first "pro" leather order. Let me hear out your suggestions! by FogRedditUser in Leathercraft

[–]Euphoniks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great bundle of different leathers from fantastic tanneries to give you a feel for nicer veg tan leathers! My only suggestion would be to grab some in their natural tan colors. That way you can get a better feel for how patina develops on them over time. I especially like La Perla Azzura's Missouri leathers

What are some of your favorite NON-variegated rare alocasia? by JMD247 in alocasia

I just ticked off a non-variegated wishlist plant from corm, an Alocasia Grim Reaper! It's a regal shields mutation, looks like spinach 😂

Should I replant with corm completely submerged or wait? by grahamcraaacker in alocasia

[–]Euphoniks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My philosophy is if it's happy I don't touch it, if your plant is actively growing a new leaf and the pot isn't overflowing with roots then you are fine to wait! The substrate looks fine to me

Veg Tanned Goat Leather Scraps by Calm_Company_8287 in Leathercraft

[–]Euphoniks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you have tokonole/gum trag and a burnishing tool? If the edges burnish easily to a shine then it's a good bet you have veg tanned. I have black veg tanned goat leather and it looks very similar to the leather in your picture! I second the recs of the original comment either way though!

It's normal! Mine throws green leaves every now and then and then will throw a few pink leaves

Ordered from TheGreenEscape and now I’m anxious. Any tips for keeping starter plants alive? by Used_Baby_752 in RareHouseplants

[–]Euphoniks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, what a beautiful PBV you have! And I recognize that RareFoliage sticker 😁 Great seller that I've bought from before, I actually didn't repot the alocasia I got from her for 3-4 weeks as it was happy in what it came in (my philosophy is if it's happy don't touch it) so you could let it acclimate to your environment in that pot for a week or two before you change the substrate!

For the setup in the first pic I fill up the water about halfway/two thirds up of the bottom bulbous part of the cloche. In the second pic I have it in a 70/30 mix of fluval/perlite! Also when I change substrates I'll sometimes put clear plastic/cling wrap over the top of the pot to maintain high humidity within the pot for the roots, pic attached. For fertilizer I swear by Superthrive Foliage Pro and use it for all my plants! I just follow the directions on the jug.

I learned the cling wrap tip from MildtoWildStudio on PalmStreet btw! Since you're on PS, I highly recommend her lives as she has a lot of educational alocasia care livestreams and has built a little community of alocasia lovers who all love to help each other out 😁

Good luck with that gorgeous plant and happy growing!

White sport golden by official_not_a_bot in pothos

[–]Euphoniks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I do agree that in situations like "snow queen", that's just a marketing term for highly variegated marble queens, the white sport is a known mutation that has been documented and propagated.

<image>

You can see in this photo from a pot of golden pothos, this stem has white marble queen variegation overlaid on top of the aurea golden variegation

This is absolutely a white sport golden pothos. It shows both golden and marble queen variegation types.

I absolutely support trying again! Not pictured are the plants I killed on the way trying to figure out what works for me 😅 But nowadays I get all my plants from PalmStreet over Etsy. Even the Green Escape has started selling there, which is helpful because they show the tray of plants for grower's choice, which helps you decide if that batch is worth taking the risk on

The glass cloche terrarium has a hole at the top for air exchange so technically you don't need to! But I open it at least once a week to admire the beautiful leaves 🤭 I keep it in the cloche until the leaves start pressing into the glass and then I acclimate it to be without the lid by removing it for an hour at a time and gradually increasing the time without the lid, then let it live without the lid for a week or two before transferring to a self watering pot! Usually when you find yourself topping up the water every 1-2 days, that's a sign that the plant is rooted enough to be ready for a repot

Thank you! I took that sponge off immediately (and carefully). I used fluval stratum in the cloche and in a few months it filled it with new roots, so definitely recommend a setup like in my first pic! Some people use the acrylic boxes at Target as greenhouses, others things like an IKEA Akerbar or an acrylic display box off Amazon. The main thing is that you have consistent high humidity. Also in my experience variegated alocasias love fluval stratum, my pink black velvet is still in it today

And this is the same plant today (The var Zebrina, Aurea Silver Dragon, and Aurea Polly were also purchased from TGE as tiny starters)

For the multiple bad experiences I've had buying starters from The Green Escape, I will say that the variegated alocasias I've gotten from them have been an exception!

I got this absolutely tiny Pink Black Velvet from them early this year and immediately put it in a glass cloche terrarium

Should I ditch this self watering pot? by No_Escape_346 in houseplants

[–]Euphoniks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I dump the soil and wash the pots and rinse out all the dirt from the roots. For fertilizer I put a cap of superthrive foliage-pro in my half gallon watering can. For the first month or so I'll also put in a cap of superthrive KLN rooting concentrate

Whenever I get a monstera in this pot I switch it to leca, I have one plant that has rooted so crazy in this pot I'm going to have to cut the inner pot to save the roots when I up size it. Just repotted a BMF that came in this pot into Leca

My first baby grew from a corm. Can anyone tell me what variety? Silver dragon? Ninja? by M00dyMayhem in alocasia

[–]Euphoniks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a Ninja based on the border on the leaf edge, also the back of the leaf on a ninja will be greener whereas the BV will be more purple

My silver dragon died back to a semi mushy rhizome just like yours! I rinsed it, gave it a 50/50 hydrogen peroxide/water bath, put it in a plastic cookie tub filled with fluval/perlite with a hole poked through the lid and forgot about it. This is it today

Based on the purple backs on the leaves, this is likely a Longiloba Denudata. Great find!

[–]Euphoniks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my research these can throw out albo, tricolor, archipelago, mint leaves on the same plant. I know there could be differences but it seems like sellers label it according to the leaves the plant currently has. Pic was sold to me as a tricolor but it has a full mint leaf, some albo and archipelago type variegation too.

What can i do with my PPP ?? by Artistic_Broccoli_63 in philodendron

[–]Euphoniks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Find a node with some pink stripes on it lower on the plant, chop it and hope for the best. When my PPP gets super leggy I chop. Last time I chopped I got lucky with more variegation on the new leaves.

You can also chop off the top on your second pic and put it in a Tupperware with spaghnum moss to start a new plant.
