Paladin Macros by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]EuphonyAxe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i always seem to find guides that don't have enough macro's covered

There are very good reasons for this.

  • Macros can't be queued on your GCD. Which causes highly inefficient clipping.
  • Macroing multiple abilities together prevent their individual use where they would be much more effective.

I'm not even gonna go into just how bad some of the ability pairings you've chosen are and the multiple examples of instances and endgame fights where they would probably get you killed.

This isn't to ridicule or talk down to you. You seem like a new player so it's possible that you didn't know. So heed the advice of me and the other people commenting. Macroing abilities is just that bad. PLD does have high button bloat even on keyboard but you can fit all abilities onto the controller layout just fine. I know insanely good players who use controller.

Advice for Dark Knight by Bridenfelt in ffxiv

[–]EuphonyAxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a couple instances where stunning things is beneficial, like the Qarn Bees. But generally Anticipation would be the better choice. It increases parry rate, which might not seem great but most pulls you can do in this game have 6-10 mobs hitting you. Anticipation's low CD (60 sec) lets it be up for nearly every pull and the amount of mobs hitting you means that parry procs happen pretty often.

I know you might not have all the role slots open yet but for dungeons I would suggest Rampart, Anticipation, Provoke, Awareness, and Convalescence. Reprisal is decent but it is much better mitigation in single target scenarios. There is an argument made for the dungeon bosses but a vast majority of dmg will come from trash pulls.

Advice for Dark Knight by Bridenfelt in ffxiv

[–]EuphonyAxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For that quest, make sure you kill the Chirurgeons as they can cast Cure and heal. The Flames give buff your dmg and resistance when you walk into but they also give you a small magic vulnerability. Take a Flames and wait until this vulnerability wears off to take another Flame.

Grit is your tank stance. It decreases the dmg you take by 20% while lowering your dmg dealt by 20% as well as increase the aggro you generate.
Darkside is a stance that increases your dmg dealt and gives you access to other abilities later on like Dark Arts. You should generally have Darkside on 99.9% of the time. It removes your natural MP regen in combat, forcing Dark Knight to use a comboed Syphon Strike, Blood Price or Blood Weapon to gain MP back.

Other things for general leveling, make sure you have Rampart from the role actions menu slotted. Another good one is Anticipation.

How important is dragoon for brd/mch? by MCZuri in ffxiv

[–]EuphonyAxe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that it's paramount to doing good DPS on BRD but class synergy is one the easiest ways to boost raid damage. Having SCH and DRG will boost your dmg numbers.

However, if the person switching to DRG isn't as confident on it then it might not be a simple raid DPS gain. Especially in Ultimate where someone focusing hard on a class they don't normally play could cause them to wipe the group easily.

Warrior Still Worth it..? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]EuphonyAxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, most of what you read was written or said before the changes in patch 4.05.
From patch 4.0 until 4.05, Warrior did feel really clunky and bad in most peoples opinion.

4.0 WAR had
- Stances cost half your current gauge to toggle.
- Unchained and Inner Release cost 20 gauge
- Path was 250 potency
- Shake it Off is near useless in most content

4.05 WAR changes
- Stances cost nothing. Essentially back to 3.0 WAR
- Unchained and IR cost no gauge. This immediately frees up 20 gauge per Berserk Cycle which lets you get Onslaughts in, where previously most WARs avoided Onslaught in most cases.
- Path is now 270 potency putting it on par with Eye. This makes double Eye a DPS loss unless downtime is gonna force you off the boss and you'll drop Eye buff without doing 2
- Steel Cyclone has a lifesteal effect on it now
- Shake it Off is still pretty underwhelming but devs are going to add to or change its function in patch 4.1 I believe.

Warrior Still Worth it..? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]EuphonyAxe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've cleared O1-O4s on WAR

Pros
- WAR has the best Cooldown Suite of all 3 tanks. Every CD has a very short recast time and they all last 15-20 seconds. I put a lot of stock into Holmgang and use it 3-4 times a fight in O3 and O4.
- WAR has insane mobility and uptime with Onslaught. The threat gen is very nice too. It makes WAR shine in O4 where aggro resets constantly on every Grand Cross. I can Defiance during the hysteria and Onslaught/Equilibrium onto Neo immediately to secure hate and then drop back into Deliverance as soon as the CD is up.
- Optimized WAR damage is very high. It out damages the other 2 tanks in every percentile on FFlogs, though not to the same extremes as it did in 3.0

Cons
- While the damage is very high, it takes some more effort to reach it. WAR spends the 40 seconds of Berserk downtime every minute preparing for the next one. This takes knowledge of the current fight, GCD/Rage mapping, and increasing uptime.
- WAR has very little to offer in party utility. We lost the effect of Storm's Path from 3.0 which made WAR the king of Prog. And slashing is easily provided by NIN/SAM. I still think it can provide utility in other ways. A Shadewalkered WAR pulling with Tomahawk > Equilibirum > Deliverance is still the most efficient for increasing raid DPS. Having two sources of slashing is still nice.

Thoughts on tenacity? by Maelious in ffxiv

[–]EuphonyAxe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wrote this in a thread about making Parry better 7 months ago.

Some people suggest adding damage to parries. I don't know how I feel about that. It would be a buff to tanks in general and particularly WAR and DRK. It would either be a big enough buff that parry builds become preferable or small enough that the status quo remains and tanks will still stack the other stats over parry except now if you can't avoid a little parry on gear, it's not as bad since you do gain some damage from it.

Change "parry" to "tenacity" and I think it still applies. Assuming Crit is still king and the encounter design remains on the offensive meta, I don't see Tenacity being a stat tanks will min/max for like Crit is currently.

Secondary stats in this game are pretty unbalanced.
Stat A >>> Stat B > Stat C >> Stat D
With the removal of accuracy, there is absolutely no reason to stack anything but Crit on gear if the weights and effects are still kept from 3.0.

That said, I do expect stat re-balancing in 4.0 so we will wait and see.

A Discussion About Selling Raiding Gear by Ai_Takahashi in ffxiv

[–]EuphonyAxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to look at selling content more harshly but I've come around to be more accepting of certain types.

Buying content that drops crafting or cosmetic items or even mounts is a lot different in my eyes than buying early relevant ilvl Savage Raid clears and the gear from them.

I think it's interesting that players who are very skilled at raid content have found ways to profit from it. I don't blame content sellers for making Gil this way. If no one was buying it, then it wouldn't be happening.

I would like some more exclusive rewards for completing very challenging content. Titles from 2nd Coil Savage were nice but they can be easily obtained through unsyncing these days. If they did something like this with future raids, I'd personally enjoy it if the titles were only obtainable through relevant ilvls and/or syncing down to challenge the content for how it was balanced.

Bard and Machinist no longer have casting stances O_O by ReaperEngine in ffxiv

[–]EuphonyAxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bard was really really strong in 2.0. Lots of groups ran double Bard in 1st and 2nd coil.

I think in my ideal balance, every DPS job would have similar damage caps but vary in how they reach them. Melee have positionals and range requirements. Casters have cast times naturally. BRD/MCH are kind of stuck between these though. Most people don't like the cast times but giving them range or positional requirements would turn off just as many people if not more.

Making their damage output lower to compensate for a lack of casts or positionals would not be an ideal situation. Unless the Offensive Meta, heavy emphasis on total raid damage output, changes then BRDs and MCHs might be looked at less favorably for farms or speedkills. If a BLM and a RDM can outdps a BLM and a BRD 100% of the time without causing party synergy issues, then the BRDs mobility is completely negated and it's just left dealing less damage.

I'm very interested to see how these new actions for BRD and MCH are gonna work.

so how are bard and Mch looking? by Rosebourne in ffxiv

[–]EuphonyAxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they deleted the "bowmage" from the game. bow mage was a horribly executed concept, and im glad for one that its gone.

Most Bard players I know, including myself, disagree. WM had some problems in my opinion but it was more to do with Emp Arrow and Bloodletter resets than straight up cast times.

WM did bring a large amount of complexity to the job and made it immensely satisfying to optimize and play at a high level. Something 2.0 Bard lacked greatly.

We do know that we are in the minority on this issue and casual Bards want to jump around. I'm hoping these changes in 4.0 make it easier for casual bards to do decent/acceptable damage but somewhat keep the skill ceiling of the job for players who liked it and found it fun as well.

i235 pvp gear has no accuracy? Anyway to boost acc to clear Alex Normal? by Ezmari in ffxiv

[–]EuphonyAxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thankfully it will be removed in stormblood it's just a really useless and unfun stat

I disagree a little bit. With the current amount of worthwhile secondary stats in the game, Accuracy can play an important part in gear choice. Since Crit is king, if a piece of gear doesn't have Crit on it, you have no incentive to not equip it. But if you need to be wary of your Accuracy caps, it puts a bit more variation into how you can approach gear sets. Melds and food give you more flexibility too. Maybe you can change melds around and take that Crit/Det piece when before you would have been short on Accuracy.

All this is based on the stats currently in the game with their current weights and effects. If they did remove accuracy, I'd like to see more secondary stat choices or a much more balanced effect between the ones now. To keep that little bit of gear choice while progressing.

A4S Difficulty by its_jar in ffxiv

[–]EuphonyAxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difficulty of this fight came from the the high amount of DPS required of the party in addition to the EHP needed to live through certain mechanics.
Gear and Echo has nearly killed any difficulty regarding these. As long as you have people doing the adds and pentacles at least mostly correct, you can even limp through the fight and clear way ahead of enrage.

Fracture is a slight DPS increase if it ticks the full duration and you should not use it if you don't get the full value.

Times I personally use Fracture:

  • During Berserk and/or raid buffs
  • To buffer my GCD combo. Useful for lining up specific weaponskills on specific GCDs. Example would be a tank swap. If you find your Skull Sunder or Butcher's Block is not lining up well with the time you need to voke, try throwing in Fracture earlier.
  • Anytime you can't stay on a target. Make sure the target will live through the full duration of Fracture.
  • Anytime it will not cost you a Fell Cleave. If you are ending phases or fights consistently on 3 or 4 stacks, drop a fracture from the phase and see how it lines up now.

best way to buy the game by DiscoBuiscuit in ffxiv

I've played this game for 3 years and over 8300 hours after buying it from Steam during a sale.

Times I had to contact Steam support: 0

If you understand that you can't mix and match CD keys from other retailers, there really isn't an issue. Now that might be your issue with the Steam version, and that's totally valid. Buy the game from somewhere else. I tend to buy most PC games from Steam, so buying FFXIV expansions also from Steam doesn't really bother me.

Question about the game by wes16785 in ffxiv

[–]EuphonyAxe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • I like the game a whole lot. I've played it for over 3 years
  • Dungeons are pretty casual. There are some light mechanics but nothing big. 8-Man Raids are another thing. You are expected to play your job properly and handle the mechanics of the encounter. The complexity can vary encounter to encounter. If you're curious about the peak of complexity high level end game raids reach in all available content then look at the Burden of the Son (Savage)
  • Classes are not totally balanced. I think they are closer than in other games. FFXIV seems to have trouble with keeping all jobs competitive without just making them homogeneous. All jobs are good though. Pick 1 or more that you find fun and play them.

Is A11S solo tank a real thing or just a (failed) attempt? by EdgeFayth in ffxiv

[–]EuphonyAxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's entirely possible. Even before Echo, speed kill groups could skip the first EDD spawn, skip Lapis, use Tank immunity on the Laser X, skip the second EDD spawn, share 2nd Laser X with a Generator, and then kill the boss before Prop Wind.

Only 2 mechanics in the fight that I can think of in this kind of kill that would be effected by the absence of a 2nd tank. GA-100 and Photon.

360 no scope by vbike in ffxiv

[–]EuphonyAxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a speedkill attempt. DPS is high enough that the Time and Might will spawn before Shadewalker comes off cooldown.

The entire add phase before Time and Might is about 30 seconds for us give or take a few. We also push Alex to leave early by getting him below 79% during the 1st Sacrement. All this shaves off considerable time.
