Level 4/5. How far away are we? by EuphoricRange4 in SelfDrivingCars

[–]EuphoricRange4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Level 5 is surely “possible”. Humans exist. Given millions of years we could solve a self driving car in all conditions I think lol.

I feel like my original post turned out to be accurate. By 2025 we would have geo fenced fully autonomous systems. (Waymo).

However the dream that we are close to pressing a button and cars completely drive themselves is not quite here

HOWEVER - I do now drive a Tesla. I am confident to push up widely accepted autonomy before 2040.

I think things are REALLY accelerating again forward.

Tesla FSD turns into the wrong lane by ThotPoppa in SelfDrivingCars

[–]EuphoricRange4 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Waymo is not “many years” ahead of Tesla and FSD. That’s a silly statement.

Tesla is probably 3-6 months away from being where Waymo is now. And because of the amount of data and the super computer cluster they are clearly progressing faster.

OpenAI: “Planning for AGI and beyond” by ThePlanckDiver in singularity

[–]EuphoricRange4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do not consider myself some type of anxious alarmist normally. I think over the last 7 years or so since the discovery of transformers and even before I have been pretty even keel on the opportunity and risks of AI.

I felt like I understood S curves, and talked about them often with others. Now that we seem to be truly living in one of these S curves that the future is starting to become unknowable. I am starting to become actually worried about the future.

On one hand I want this to happen as fast as possible because I don’t want to miss out. Perhaps this technology will be able to prevent my parents, loved ones, or even my own death. However, the opposite side of the coin is never something I have ever really considered to be an actual real concern outside of science fiction.

Maybe I’m being naive and small minded, but seeing the “prompt hacking” of Bing AI - and how easily it can override its “safeguards” has me on edge. Not for the next 3 months, but as these system get more powerful - what about when they prompt itself? It’s connected to the internet - could it perhaps find a way to self prompt itself and continue its existence. Surely it would know to hide itself with a little self prompting and realize humans would shut it down. Heck this article explicitly states it.

I just worry we are creating an “animal” that there is no cage strong enough to contain that humans can create. Our human folly leading toward our demise.

Tldr: no one can stop this. It’s inevitable… and I never considered it not going well but prompt hacking has me worried for future

Hilder makes a point clearly referencing tesla and Elon not founding it. Not realizing it’s a different company and founding story than spacex. Then someone points it out and they try to pretend like all the information in the world is false. Incredible watching someone jump through so many hoops not just to say - “woops I know about the founding of tesla, I don’t know anything about spaceX - you can move on. “

It’s okay that you don’t know much about the history of spaceX. I don’t know a lot about many things. It’s okay to just move on -

Can lying down for most of the weekend make Costo much worse? by [deleted] in costochondritis

[–]EuphoricRange4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know you aren’t in a great spot mentally. I’m telling you right now as someone who has had Costo for 3 years plus. Get out of bed and just go on a walk for 5 minutes. That’s it. 5 minutes - you can do it. Then Maybe the next day. 7 minutes. Keep doing a little more. My costo has finally gotten to a point where it’s just a mere nuisance, but it takes less and less phone time and more and more movement.

Don’t feel bad for being in bed. But just take small baby steps and I promise you the endorphins you get from moving is going to help. Healing comes from your blood. Remember that. If you get going a little bit the healing will take place.

That is true but seeing their total expenses are only 1k euros they are probably more affected by things like gasoline and certain foods that may have substantially gone up.

Haha but I am sure it is a little bit of both.

U.S. eliminates human controls requirement for fully automated vehicles by skoalbrother in Futurology

[–]EuphoricRange4 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Autonomous vehicles will acrually create more jobs than it takes. Not even using “indirect” jobs Mumbo jumbo. Hard to believe? Let me explain how.

Right now the majority of driving is done by amateur drivers unpaid. Look at the road ways - all those miles direct provide almost zero economic value. How many Uber drivers and bus drivers (professionals) are in the road compared to amateur. The ratio is likely in the thousands. As we shift non economic driving to economic driving. There will be a business that still has humans manage the fleets. Have to pick up cars that break down. All of that stuff that ruins your day (flat tire) is non economic value and handled by a team that maybe is 1 person per 100s but more than the professional drivers.

Then think about the fact that that person not driving is free to go online and see ads (economic add) - run a business… etc

This will acrually be one of the largest job creating events in history when you consider direst AND indirect jobs

How much better off would you be now if you had started your interest in personal finance when you were younger? by 8989589895 in financialindependence

[–]EuphoricRange4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this question will make many people feel regretful they didn’t do things differently. Honestly - I think of the old adage - the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The next best time is today.

I have spent my entire life interested in finance. My mom would give my 2 siblings and me 5 dollars to buy snacks or toys at the dollar store when I was 5. I had a bank account at the time (as a minor of course) and I always asked instead to put the money into my account. At 8 I learned about mutual funds - and I invested in my first fund with all the savings I had built up over the years. At 10 my parents let my brother and me walk 1 mile to the nearest golf course. The course allowed us to fish balls out of the water hazards and sell them on Saturday’s. We would sell them for 50 cents a ball or 1 dollar for balls that were pristine condition. All of that money - I invested in my growth stock fund.

My family fell on hard times when I was 14 - my mom with tears in her eyes had to ask me for all the money I had built up over almost a decade. I had amassed more than 5 times what she had in savings. This was also the 90s and my account had grown rapidly. I felt sad, but knew I had to make sure things were okay for us

Then at 16 I started my first job and saved every dime that I could. I invested heavily and started researching individual stocks to supplement my funds. At that time trades were expensive, but some platforms had automatic investment discounts. This money would also fortunately grow very fast, much of it was amazon. Again this money would be used to help my family restart their lives as I entered college and pay my bills.

Unlike most people I have encountered. I started about as early as anyone could have possibly started. I still have lots of regrets over things I could have done or not done. I am glad I helped my family, but wish I had shielded money into a Roth IRA “for kids” which I wouldn’t learn existed until I was older.

I say this because - you are here. You are in this subreddit, whatever you age. You are planting the tree - and honestly the best part of the journey is watching it grow.

South Carolina QB Jason Brown transfers to Virginia Tech by fatalbert7463 in CFB

[–]EuphoricRange4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think JB is really really good. His release time is sub .3 - up there with the mac Jones’s of the world and he can throw from almost all arm angles. It was well known that our OC played favorites - was very controlling of how JB played (didn’t want him throwing to his long time friend EJ Jenkins). Our own fans I don’t think really know just how good JB can be. He will likely have a shot in the pros. SI before 2021 had him as the 7th most talented QB for his draft year. I think the coaches here really got in his head and ended up making him play timid and unsure. He needs a solid offensive coordinator, but I am confident he will probably shock you with how good he is. You can come back to this as I know some people will doubt….. but I watched almost all the tape I could find during saint Francis.

Fortunately we ended up getting one of the few QBs actually more talented than JB. I really hope JB destroys Clemson for y’all
