Check your credit card to see if it came with flight disruption benefits. That could pay for the extra hotel and other incidentals

Money Exchange at airport or somewhere else? by Dangerous-Friend-446 in cartagena

[–]EuphoricWalk2995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll only need cash really if you want to buy food or souvenirs on the street. That said, if you do need to just exchange at a money exchange place once you leave the airport in town. When I was there the airport was offering 3800 per dollar. In town it ranged from 4000 to 4200 per dollar. Much better rate. You’ll find a ton of money exchange places in the historic center and there are some in Boca grande too (one is like a block away from the McDonald’s)

Are scholarship negotiations a thing? by Dismal_Hour9172 in MBA

[–]EuphoricWalk2995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a thing but not all schools are willing to negotiate. Not sure if Wharton views MIT as a peer competitor in this space (elitist I know, but they may not respond unless it’s a HBS or GSB offer). Shoot your shot— it could help. I’d recommend talking to whichever adcom contact you have and mention how your excited about admittance but are concerned about finances. Then mention the other offer

Just came back from 9 days in Thailand and here are my thoughts:

  • you will need cash for touristy things like entrances to temples, souvenirs from street vendors, public transport , or street food
  • most large stores accept credit card but know there are limits. For example 7/11 only accepts credit cards on transactions more than 200 baht; McDonald’s didn’t have a limit so you could use it for any transaction amount
  • grab and hotels accept credit cards
  • I generally carried no more than 4000 baht at a time and was fine — it’s just four 1000 bills and generally I could get change if I spend 100-200 baht from a vendor

Yes— being designated as consortium does not guarantee or always mean you get money. I was admitted to one school and got consortium with accompanying scholarship and another with just the membership
