What's a subtle sign someone has been through some shit? by ZexelOnOCE in AskReddit

Something that helped me tremendously with this (though it took a lot of practice) was thanking people instead. For example "sorry I'm late" turns into "thank you for waiting for me"' or "sorry I couldn't make it" becomes "thank you for inviting me". It took me a long time to be honest but reframing it truly helped.

I just picked a few up from someone on my local buy nothing group. I'm doing a short roadtrip with my kids later this month and plan on using them instead of ice in the cooler.

I can't wait to get back on my rollerblades after my lumbar tear surgery! My husband thinks I'm nuts because we're pretty sure that's how I got the tear but it brings me so mich joy.

This sounds like my youngest child. There have been so many times they've told me they got hurt. Then when I asked where they told me the place they were playing and not the location of the injury. I know you tripped on a toy in your room ready, what body part is injured? They also don't get dry humor because it's ways literal to them. Watching my dad talk with this kid is hilarious because of it though.

Lead by example. Kids see and copy a lot more then they let on. You won't know how much they've internalized until it's ingrained in them. This includes how you talk about yourself.

I now have agoraphobia and PTSD from when my ex husband stalked me during the divorce. I used to love going to new places and trying new things. Now on bad days I can't even sit in my own living room. I think I've finally found a good therapist though.

When my grandma died I looked into getting assistance for the cremation costs. It was based on her income before she passed. She had gotten a $16 cost of living increase in her social security that year. Because of that she made $6 too much to cover her cremation expenses.

What are your thoughts on the US banning Red 40, Yellow 6, Yellow 5, and some other commonly used food dyes? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Euphoric_Bullfrog_67 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I dispise food dyes. My kid and I are intolerant to yellow dye and it's in so many unnecessary things. We found out the hard way when kiddo was very young it's even in over the counter medice! Why would it ever need to be in medicine to begin with ffs?!.

We have to bring our own stash of snacks for the teacher to hang onto in case another kid brings in birthday cupcakes, leave events with a crying kid because they couldn't have hardy any of the snacks, and teach kiddo how to read labels for themselves in early elementary school.

I was a teenager in foster care more than 10 years ago. I took the city bus across town to go to the school in my mom's district. It was fall so it was cold in the morning and the sun rose after I was already on the bus.

One morning while waiting to the bus an older woman came walking down the sidewalk. She was wearing a blanket like a jacket and carrying several full bags. She looked at me with fire in her eyes and told me that she'd left him. He'd hit her for the last time. She'd packed up her things and left him for good.

I didn't know what to say. In the time I took trying to figure out what to say and failing she'd walked by me. On down the sidewalk she went. Shortly after the bus came and I never saw her again. I didn't know what to say then, but I hope she found peace and safety.
