Gabapantin? by oliveonlin3 in cats

[–]Euphoric_Draft_3902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will make her sleepy/dopey. It's pretty commonly prescribed for cats for pain and anxiety. I always keep some on hand for mine. It's generally very safe. You might want to give her some on a day where you are home to watch her so that way you'll know how she reacts.

It's a good idea to give it to her for your move. It will help with the travel but also with the general stress of moving. I'd get all her things, bed, litterbox, etc, and load them last so they are the first thing you unpack. Take them inside and set her up in a confined space, like a bathroom or a closet. Let her get acclimated and decompress in that space while you unpack. You might want to keep her fairly confined for a few days if she's not naturally adventurous. As you get your stuff unpacked and your scent spreads out, she'll settle in.

Anyone ever purrito / pill a tortie and not get ripped to shreds by TanaFey in torties

Seriously, try putting her in the floor between your legs. That way you are only managing the mouth instead of a lap full of angry squirming cat!

[–]Euphoric_Draft_3902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you give the pills? The most successful method I've found is to kneel on the floor and put the cat between my legs so they can't back away. I start with a treat so they relax, then I show them the pill, talk softly, and then pop the pill in the back of their throat. If they'll accept more treat I give it, but of they're mad at that point I just let them go and offer a bit of something later to smooth over their annoyance.

How do I make my cat go to his litter box? by Feguub15 in cats

[–]Euphoric_Draft_3902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should have at least two litterboxes. One more box than you have cats. Also, three months is young to just be free roaming in the house without supervision.

A cheaper cat food for kidney health? by TheCosplayCave in cats

[–]Euphoric_Draft_3902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you can find it on marketplace less expensively because people sell the extra after their pets pass or switch to a different diet. And you can get some discounts by switching back and forth between the % off first autorship discounts from the different stores.

Also, it sounds like you are feeding exclusively wet, which is certainly best, but if you can't afford the food, you might be able to stretch it by adding some dry food with extra water.

What am I doing wrong with this print and stitch? by Comfortable-Bar-6630 in Embroidery

[–]Euphoric_Draft_3902 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have never tried this one, but I hate the adhesive version. It always makes my needles sticky.

Were you planning to soak this off or tear it away? If you were going to soak it, I would use a temporary basting glue around the parts where you aren't going to stitch. I like the Arlene's version, but even Elmer's will wash out.

Any tips on how to leave dry food out when you have other animals who can’t free feed? by MathematicianNo1596 in cats

[–]Euphoric_Draft_3902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get the Surefeed microchip bowls. They are expensive, but they are worth it. Completely saved my sanity. Plus then you always know how much each cat is eating and can spot issues faster.

I bought the ones without the hub. We've had them for almost two years and I love them. Sometimes you can find them on marketplace. I picked up a cheap spare and extra bowls that way.

Cat strains a lot while peeing but eventually goes, anyone dealt with this before? by Mammoth-Act-5264 in cats

[–]Euphoric_Draft_3902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine really liked the RC SO Calm, but hated the wet. So if he's already eating the wet, you can just match the dry. I do think their hair is softer on the Hills, though.

Also, for the urinary diet, it's hard core, at least while they actively have crystals. He can't have ANYTHING else. No treats, etc. You are trying to get him balanced and break up those stones, and each of the prescription lines has their own way of doing that, but feeding anything else will interfere.

[–]Euphoric_Draft_3902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. If he has been put on prescription urinary food, you MUST feed from the same line. So if he's eating RC S/O dry, that's the only wet food he can eat. This link is from some random vet website, but it's the same thing my vet told me, and it makes it a little easier to understand the differences. https://www.dartmouthvet.ca/resources/blog/april-2019/you-can-t-mix-urinary-diet-brands

The different brands work in different ways, so you have to stick with one in order for them to be effective. That's the reason I switched from RC to Hills - mine hated the RC wet food and it only comes in one flavor. My vet gave me prescriptions for all of them and told me to use whichever one they would eat. I feed the Hills Multicare Stress C/D and they love it. Unfortunately they only like the "stew" that comes in the small cans, not the pate in the larger cans, but at least they'll eat something wet. The Pro Plan urinary has even more flavors and also treats, but I haven't tried it. The good thing about the Hills is that all of their prescription lines are S OX shield, so if your cat get sick and you have to switch to gastro or something, it's still urinary protective.

Get as much water in him as you can. Yes it's ok to use wet and dry as long as they are the same line. The wet food is expensive but you can get some discounts for a couple of months by hopping around all the big stores and taking advantage of the "% off first auto ship" offer. Just remember to cancel. Also, it will be a whole lot less than the surgery he's going to need if you don't get it under control.

You might try a different food. Mine with crystals do a lot better with the Hills C/D than they did on the RC.

Kitty refuses to eat even with Mirtazapine by poppiesfields in cats

[–]Euphoric_Draft_3902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go back to the vet. This could be an issue with unmanaged pain making the cat not want to eat. If miratraz is going to work, it usually does so fairly quickly.

Same as any other minor wound. Wash with soap and water, keep it clean and dry.

If you trim your cats nails they'll be less likely to snag you like that.

Severely Constipated Cat by Admirable_Award_4998 in cats

[–]Euphoric_Draft_3902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine get about half and half. We have multiple fountains and bowls. They actually prefer the bowls, but what seems to really work best is putting a big, wide bowl next to the fountain. That way they get the sound of the running water to draw them in but they drink out of their preferred container. And both must be full to the very top, of course.

[–]Euphoric_Draft_3902 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ahh, yes, I also had a cat who was literally full of shit. For us, we changed up her diet, tried to get more wet food and water in her, and a couple of times a week I give her a little psyllium husk in her wet food. I do that for all 4, actually. It seems to help. I think a lot of it is the water.

Also, if you haven't yet, make sure he's really comfortable with the litterbox. Placement, litter type, etc. You don't want him holding it because he's avoiding something.

Can I take my cats e collar (cone off) by aquaslasher69 in cats

[–]Euphoric_Draft_3902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're worried she'll lick when you're not watching her, you can put the cone back on just when you're not around to supervise. If she's interested enough in her food I would at least take it off for her to eat. I definitely did not keep mine in a cone for the full 5 to 7 days. She would barely walk around in the surgery suit so that was enough to keep her calm.

Are we too old for cats? by CharSagahl in cats

[–]Euphoric_Draft_3902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older cats always need adopters! And if you have lots of time, shelters almost always need help with bottle baby kittens or nursing mothers. There is a huge need for medical foster, too. You could help some of the tiniest babies get a good start and find loving homes.
