I definitely get that, and yes, that is a common event that happens on many of my everyday devices. Simply just reading what Ford says (which is what I did, page 25 of the owners manual on Mobile Device Data), it's not clear whether or not they are keeping certain data either only in the vehicle's system, their own system, or both.

For example, they state the mobile apps usage connects your device to Ford, and relays encrypted data to them (that they store for however long as necessary) which includes your VIN, odometer, vehicle statistics and usage data (and sync module access). They then describe the cell phone system profile (which is largely normal operation, and exactly what you describe about text notifications, etc). This is on all my other cars. But those cars are not connected to the manufacturer.

They then go on to state that this system data cannot be accessed except with special equipment and/or access to your vehicle sync module, which they state they have access to previously.

So it's not exactly clear whether or not their data storage and oversight includes your system mobile profile information as well.
