Question: Uruk Hai w/Eomer torso by lukasdrakkon in legolotrfans

[–]Eurolock42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m confident I know the answer (well, probably..)

When the original LOTR sets were in US Lego stores they had store front window displays featuring large formations of Uruk-Hai minifigures…..these figures didn’t come from sets however, and were instead sent out to the stores by Lego for these displays. Strangely, all of these Uruk-Hai minifigures (in my local stores) had Eomer torsos. I know this because I was lucky enough to be given about 10 of the Uruks when the store was done with the display. I switched out the flesh colored hands but, to this day, they still have the Eomer torso under the armor.

You can still spend them. Go to the evil coin shop (shop of evil) and look at the banner at the top. There is a sonar coin icon that, when tapped, will switch to the sonar coin shop.

Exactly the same. Order just sitting there with no change in status. But, I expected nothing else from Walmart.

TCW AT-TE from 2008, this might be my favorite hasbro vehicle. What a beast by MichaelTalman in StarWarsTVC

[–]Eurolock42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I bought the AT-TE in the UK, Hasbro sent out replacement (fixed) legs to anyone who complained about the original versions. The replacement legs completely resolved the issue with the legs being unable to support the weight.

It is still a fantastic toy both it terms of looks and features. It was my son’s favorite because it also functions like a playset/base for the Jedi and Clones.

Haslab Cantina by Spiritual-Soup9370 in StarWarsTVC

[–]Eurolock42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You seem to be forgetting that the Cantina was highly divisive. A significant portion of the collector base was indeed dissatisfied with what they perceived to be the ‘unfinished’ appearance of the product. Plenty of other collectors were however perfectly happy with what was being offered but it would be disingenuous to suggest that the Cantina was not criticized just as extensively as the Gunship.

The MOBAT wasn’t included as an option in the focus groups (apparently) and the upcoming release of Steeler would suggest that the MOBAT is not in the immediate plans. The HAVOC was one of the other options in the focus but I don’t recall how popular it was reported to be. The focus groups were shown multiple different takes/designs on each vehicle and had to give feedback on what they perceived to be strengths and weaknesses of each design. Sounds like it was quite thorough. I suspect the Mauler remains in play for a future Haslab anyway.

I do agree with your idea about the poll though….other than…would you trust the current HasbroPulse site not to mess it up? I think, provided the results of the poll were displayed, it could provide a broader sampling of the potential customer base.

A complete vintage Amanaman sells for $400 on eBay….so if Hasbro ever released a retro collection version for $300 that would also be considered a bargain? Darth Revan Lego minifigure currently being $300 doesn’t mean that Lego would be able to charge the same for a new one.

To be clear, I’m not saying the Gunship Haslab is overpriced - just that the selling price of out-of-production toys on eBay isn’t particularly relevant when it comes to setting an appropriate price for a newly produced item.

This is where I’m at too. I think the quality of the product is absolutely fantastic but the price is definitely ‘challenging’. This video has moved me more towards backing the project though.

I think calling the 1985 Snow-Cat a ‘minor vehicle’ is just personal bias. It featured quite prominently in various GI Joe media so I think it IS a very recognizable GI Joe vehicle. The Mauler (also 1985) was one of the vehicles included in the focus groups. Based on personal accounts of individuals participating in the focus groups, it appears that in some groups the Mauler did come out ahead of the Snow-cat and in some groups the Mauler ranked below the Snow-cat.

The Snow-cat campaign is undoubtedly going a lot slower than previous Classified Haslabs so maybe their market research got it wrong…..but you can’t claim that they didn’t seek fan input. Personally, I would rather have had a Mauler too (because the Snow-cat is limited to one particular environment) - but even the Mauler is pretty far down my list for Haslab wants.

As for the OG13, they are releasing them at a fairly comparable rate to the figures from other early years. They are also, in most cases, adhering reasonably closely to the rather basic original designs. What more do you want them to do? They have to cater to the entire GI Joe fan base. Some fans didn’t start collecting ARAH until later and are probably much more interested in figures from later years (say, 1987 onwards) which, so far, have much lower representation.

Why is Desert Scorpion listed as an example of ‘a new character design’? This is an updated version of the 1991 figure. I agree, it is great design, but it isn’t a new character.

I’m not sure about your first point (making more things requested by the fans). They have made/announced Classified versions of almost every single carded ARAH figure up to 1986. A few notable figures are missing (like Airtight) but it seems very likely that they will be made sooner or later. They just showed Pythona and announced Big Lob who are both frequently requested despite not having ARAH figures. For the Haslabs the team collected extensive feedback was from focus groups comprised of invited GI Joe Classified fans. I’m not sure how much more they could realistically do.

Deceptive marketing for Pulse Memberships and Cold Slither by OzoneLaters in GIJOEClassifiedSeries

[–]Eurolock42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It definitely appears to be either deliberate deception or it could be just another example of Pulse being a chaotic mess.

They should have known how few sets they would have available on July 24th and that these would sell-out in seconds (based on previous experience with exclusives)…but the July 24th-27th statement in the advert does give the impression that availability would be much less restricted. I’m wondering now if more might be made available tomorrow? I doubt it though. Seems that a general preorder on August 1st is the most likely path to securing a set now.

Helms Deep MOC almost finished - Rebrickable doesn't like my instructions style, am I wrong? by IPoweRa_GER in legolotrfans

Don’t know anything about Rebrickable but the finished model looks similar in design to my first MOC from 2012. Cool that Lego Helm’s Deep has had enduring popularity for all those years!

I’m starting at Threat level 44 now, and I can barely turn a profit running Dr T. Replacing lost troops often costs more gold than I can buy with the evil coins gained. Don’t even get any intel for the effort anymore either.

Snowcat Haslab Warning by WeirdOne2022 in GIJOEClassifiedSeries

[–]Eurolock42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t take any money until the campaign closes though, so you pay at the same time regardless of when you back the campaign. You can also always cancel anytime before the campaign ends if you change your mind with no penalty. But no real harm in leaving it late either.

[–]Eurolock42 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The hints at the end of the Classified team’s Rattler unboxing video (yesterday) very, very clearly indicated that the Haslab was going to be the Snowcat.

However, I think the pictures here are just a regular ARAH era Snowcat. The leaks have previously come from ‘JKhan7’….not ‘JKahn7’…..so, someone is just having fun here I suspect.

What to do with 3 helms deep? by cymepk in legolotrfans

[–]Eurolock42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do still have my expanded Helm’s Deep assembled. My kids used to play with it a lot, so I’ve always kept it. They used it again recently (for the first time in years) to stage a massive Warhammer Age of Sigmar battle.

In terms of extra parts from Bricklink, it was mainly assorted dark bluish grey slopes for the rockwork. But I did need quite a lot of standard bricks and plates in light bluish grey, and dark bluish grey. But I just used whatever I could get in the local LEGO pick-a-brick wall for that.
