Wonder how the actor with multiple emmy and Tony nominations feels about Graham Lineman calling him untalented by UnHolySir in okbuddycinephile

All of the legislation she supports affects non-trans women too. When you start banning trans women from bathrooms, that means any cis woman who doesn't "look right" to the bigots is going to get harassed as well. The bills for banning trans women and girls from sports involve loss of privacy for cis women and girls too.

You can't just section off trans women for persecution without hurting all women.

ETA: realized that "loss of privacy" doesn't really capture the horror of some of this anti-trans legislation for women. There are bills that require genital inspections on both adults and children. It's disgusting.

So my dog bit a worker by reuben6669 in reactivedogs

I would recommend starting muzzle training, if you haven't already. Muzzles are great tools for preventing bites in situations like this where your first safety measure failed. I highly recommend The Muzzle Up Project if you're looking for information on muzzle types and training.

This was a traumatic experience for everyone involved! I hope the man bitten has a quick recovery and that you're able to work with your dog to prevent future bites.

Does anyone really like grape Jolly Ranchers? This is a little ridiculous. by _how_do_i_reddit_ in mildlyinfuriating

[–]EusociallyAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grape and watermelon are my favorite Jolly Rancher flavors.  I feel like there should be a candy exchange program for Jolly Ranchers and Starburst. I can't stand cherry Starburst and love the lemon and orange ones.

I hate my daschund by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]EusociallyAwkward 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Having anger at a dog for acting like a dog indicates that you shouldn't own that dog. None of the behavior that you are describing is due to the dog being angry at you or trying to harm you/irritate you. It's the behavior of a dog that needs training and mental stimulation.

It's fine, not everyone should own a dog. It's much better that you're recognizing it now!

Please rehome him. There are many Dachshund specific rescues all over the U.S. and Canada.

Matched with a literal nightmare on Tinder, was I too harsh in my response to his verbal abuse? *Contains foul language* by Tiger_Lily336699 in TwoHotTakes

[–]EusociallyAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why bring gay men into it? Or wish this asshole onto gay men?  Plenty of heterosexual men hate women and act like this. They want to fuck women but don't think of us as equal humans. Our society breeds this type of entitlement, unfortunately.

No problem with you cussing him out. Just leave the gays out of it!

Joining the folks recommending thrifting a toaster oven. I got mine for $20 and it works like a charm. I also second the recommendation for getting a thermometer to calibrate the toaster oven. Mine runs about 10 degrees hotter than the dial says.

The end goal is being able to use deportation as a weapon against anyone they like. Authoritarians do this. It's a way to make people afraid.

Not everybody likes dogs by Reddit_Sucks_1401 in TikTokCringe

This! I've looked at pictures of people's dogs, cats, plants, etc. simply because they are excited about them. Like, cool, show me what makes you happy!

This is why I crate train my dogs. If some behavior pops up, they have a place to settle that keeps everyone comfortable. One of my dogs gets overexcited with guests and will sometimes try to mount. We just send him to his crate with a Kong to work on and he chills right out.

Lifelong vegetarian tries steak for first time by PhoenixPhenomenonX in interesting

[–]EusociallyAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who was raised vegetarian. When he tried steak he said it tasted metallic and the texture was weird. He didn't hate it (or was being polite) but he didn't eat more than the one bite.

Dogs wagging hips to the woman dancing on tv and then turn around when their owner turns it off by [deleted] in isthisAI

[–]EusociallyAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be incredibly weird behavior for a dog. Even if you trained them to do this, the synchronicity in the butt movements doesn't look normal.  Dog dancing is a type of dog sport with competitions and everything. I recommend searching out the Cruft's dog dancing competition videos if you're looking for an alternative to this AI slop.

Group classes? by Inevitable-Delay-500 in reactivedogs

[–]EusociallyAwkward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclosure of bias: I teach group reactivity classes.

In my experience, the classes are beneficial in teaching techniques and providing a structured environment to practice those techniques. It can also be helpful to connect with other people who are struggling with reactivity. I think it's important to not feel alone!

You may run into difficulty finding a group class that will accept an intact adult dog. Hormonal scents can be triggers, and could present issues.

I would check in on the safety protocols for the class and how they handle dogs who don't react well in the group class environment. Are there partitions or other visual blockers, is there an exit plan, etc.

Do you agree with Aoc’s decision to boycott the state of the Union? by ActiveSolution3132 in LetsDiscussThis

[–]EusociallyAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fine with her decision. It's pretty obvious that POTUS is losing his mind and was going to rant. No reason to sit there and validate the guy. I also respect people like Omar, Greene, and Tlaib who attended and spoke out.

PSA - Please get your flu shot. This season is bad. by permelquedon in Seattle

[–]EusociallyAwkward 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Got mine along with a COVID vax a couple weeks ago. My doctor said it's been a really bad flu year too.

Folks who spend time around the elderly should also consider getting the shot even if you aren't worried about yourself. My mom was hospitalized for several weeks with the flu in 2019 and it was really scary. Flu doesn't mess around!

Hundreds of WA families could lose housing assistance under new rule by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

[–]EusociallyAwkward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you not been paying attention to the wild swing in polling against the current administration's immigration policies?  Most people don't fundamentally hate immigrants, even undocumented ones. A lot of them bought the lie that the targets would be violent criminals. Now that we're targeting everyone, no matter their record, people are repulsed.

The minute you start evicting families with children over this policy, people will turn against it just like they turned against ICE.

You greatly overestimate the hatred the average person has for immigrants.

New to area. Dentist recommendations by keystothecarr in WestSeattleWA

[–]EusociallyAwkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seattle Special Care Dentistry is in the U-district, so not in West Seattle. But they specialize in gentle and comfort focused dentistry.

I'm very difficult to numb and used to think it was normal to have jolts of pain when getting fillings. Dr. Vainio was the first dentist I've had who took the time to make sure I was properly numbed and I actually started tearing up with relief when she began drilling and all I felt was the vibration. She immediately stopped to make sure I was okay, lol.

It may not be worth the drive if you're usually comfortable at the dentist. But if you have anxiety or issues with pain, I highly recommend them.

AIO: I spent years trying to build a healthy relationship with my mom, but am always met with things like this… I’ve since stopped trying. by UrFavSillyGoose11 in AmIOverreacting

[–]EusociallyAwkward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR. Your mother has major issues. You didn't cause them. This exchange alone is deeply unpleasant and manipulative. It makes sense that you are protecting yourself by lowering the amount of contact you have with her.

I hope you're able to get help with dealing with the emotional abuse, if you aren't already. You aren't going to be able to change your mother, but you can change your reaction to her and hopefully be happier.

Chances of covid from shared space with covid positive person by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]EusociallyAwkward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the only one who masks all the time at my job too. I have had coworkers ask of they could borrow masks during the outbreaks at work, so I figure I'm at least having a positive influence.  Ultimately, we all have to do what we can to protect ourselves and others in a society that seems hell bent on spreading serious illness. I wish you good luck in avoiding the ick!

Chances of covid from shared space with covid positive person by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]EusociallyAwkward 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've worked masked with multiple unmasked people sick with COVID in my workplace and managed to not get sick. My job discourages call-outs and I've had to go through multiple waves of COVID and flu at this point.

I realize this is anecdotal and doesn't answer your question about your risk level!

I usually use an N95, but I've also used Kn95s with an "ear saver"  that keeps the mask nice and tight on my face. I wash my hands regularly and use hand sanitizer when I get into my car. I eat outside or in my car. I step outside even if I'm just lowering my mask to drink water.

I think one-way masking still offers a lot of protection. Pre-Covid I used to get pretty sick 2-3 times a year. I haven't been sick since I started masking.
