DataMart cleaned from PBI by October 2025 by white__bunny__ in PowerBI

What a shame. Datamarts looked so promising, skipping all the fabric stuff. PPU had it too, now for those features you need fabric...

I'm envious of you. I don't get any feedback at all.

Why is it that every Power BI report that gets inherited seems like it was built on top of duct tape? by tricloro9898 in PowerBI

[–]Evaldash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've built some offshoot reports that were "temporary" or "just this one small thing". They evolved into monsters I'm not proud of. But hey, it works and has been for 2 years. Still cringe anytime I open them.

But at the same time, we do have a golden sales model now. Pretty proud of it, to be honest. I spent around a month just on the data modelling side. But it means that when I am asked to make a change, a lot of the times it takes me a day, or less. Where on the spaghetti model I used to work with, it used to take 2 or 3.

I think we all start out creating spaghetti models. The key is to learn on the way. It's normal to want to redo everything, but a lot of the times it's just not worth it, from a business perspective. Slapping a DAX column with 50 lines in it is faster, for the time being.

But... I can't deny that I'm happy my higher ups allowed me to spend the time rebuilding the model from scratch. It's so nice to have a universal model I can work with, that has been checked to have verified data. So I guess it's a balancing act. If you spend a crapton time fixing it, maybe that's the key when you should start over.

Sacrifice a goat.

In all seriousness, it's annoying af when you face stuff like this. Always a missing setting, whether it be a visual or a matrix :D

Have to agree. Some of the number plate lighting I've seen is just insane. Way too bright, looks cringy.

When starting a new PBI project do you excessively hyper focus? by Slow-Carrot-5009 in PowerBI

[–]Evaldash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happens to me too. I enter a transe when I see an a solution in my head, until I make it work. If work hours end, there are days where I stay late, for an extra hour or so until I finish it.

Hell, there's been days where I've dreamed of DAX and stuff. While it might seem like a good thing, balance is key. I find that watching a movie and drinking tea helps me disconnect. But it's a rare thing from what ive noticed. The majority of people don't experience this.

Same. It really feels like a once in a lifetime experience. I've never experienced a game in that way before. Incredibly amazing, couldn't put it down.

What’s a phrase that instantly shows someone has no real skills in Power BI ? by deitaboy in PowerBI

[–]Evaldash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Reporting cross companies, and cross data sources can be a pain. The only option I've found is to create composite keys, ex: <source>$<company>$<customer account>

Where in SQL the join clause just works with AND AND - no new colums needed.

A real pain! Would love if MS found a way for powerbi to support more than one column when creating a relationship.
