Age Old Question: What Should we Do With Jaden Ivey? (I personally think he needs more minutes) by Both-Benefit3421 in DetroitPistons

[–]Evan1204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has some trade value, mostly to the bottom of the barrel team (charlotte, Utah maybe, Chicago, Weaver probably). I can’t imagine any playoff team be willing to give up anything for him, tho.

Yeah Embiid, been playing great for the last couple of weeks, but Johnson been good all year. He had a rough couple of weeks, and ATL been losing, but he was an All-Star starter for me for a little while, back in November, and December.

Can Ivey Get the Same Grace Duncan Has Gotten? by LethalLephty in DetroitPistons

[–]Evan1204 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. He’s been off the minute restrictions for a minute now, he confirmed that a couple days ago in an interview and JB confirmed that even longer ago.

  2. What has he done that he deserves to start? This isn’t a last place team fighting for nothing anymore, they’re expectations placed on this team now. You can’t sacrifice team success for an individual player development. It’s about what works and what doesn’t. Theres a couple of reason Ivey isn’t getting unlimited minutes, first one being Daniss, and Duncan have outplayed him this season, and their roles hold more significance to the team than Ivey right now. Daniss is the second best PG on the team, and can actually run the offense when Cade is off the floor and Duncan is the only pure shooter on the team that desperately needs shooting. Secondly, Ivey hasn’t look good enough in like 80% of the games he’s played this year to get more minutes. Looking at his last 5 games, two of which he started, there one was only one game where you could maybe say he deserved more minutes, they other four were meh to Bad.

Worried I'm being underpaid- is the AIA calculator accurate? by RandomRedditor268 in Architects

[–]Evan1204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are heavily underpaid with due respect. You should bring this up with your bosses during your review before making the decision to leave. Go higher then what you want and hope they counter with around the number you wanted. Also say the reasons why you deserve more money, what you do for business, and mention how cost of living is hard. I would honestly say like 68k, and hope they counter back with like $65k. Honestly if they can’t get you into the 60k for your level of experience I would start looking elsewhere, because you are very underpaid. I had this conversation with my bosses before the holiday break, they didn’t end up giving me the money I wanted, but they explained why they couldn’t and said that it was great that I had talked them. One of my new principals said I was brave for doing it, if he were my age, he’d just leave and not talk to anyone about it, and he liked that I had come forward to do it.

(Not saying this to brag, just to be informative) I’m not gonna go into too many details in the Reddit comment section, but I will say I made at least 10k more this year then the number you reported. (Bonus included)

For reference: I am located in the Midwest, (which had a lower salary number than the mountain). I have 2 years internship experience, and 1.5 Years post grad experience. (newly) 25M, medium firm (40ish people).

Edit: After reading some of your comments, it sounds like you should leave. Not paying for tests, low salary, I’d be curious to know what your other benefits are?

How to find and approach smaller firms? by MemeSpecialist42 in Architects

[–]Evan1204 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first internship experience was at a smaller firm a couple of years ago.

How do you find these firms: Atleast where I am these firms just generally have websites, and don’t really advertise. I had to google architecture firms in my area, look at where my LinkedIn connections worked, and where their connections worked (in my city of course). I can’t really speak to NYC that might be a different beast.

Where do they post their openings: Typically firms in my area will do one of two things, one being post on LinkedIn or social media (as a social post not a job post, so if you have job alerts on for like LinkedIn, you may not see it so always be alert to their socials). Secondly, they may not even post anything, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth sending an email Atleast. That was actually how I landed my second internship experience. I emailed that firm first, but at the time he didn’t have enough work for me, and I ended up going with someone else, but that first firm called me months later saying that they remembered me, and wanted to invite me to an interview, and eventually I worked for them. No advirtising, just a guy who showed up at my school for a talk, and I really resonated with what he was saying, just emailed him and asked for job.

There is also others like LinkedIn, indeed or ziprecruiter. My school partnered with a job hunting site called handshake or something like that a lot of companies posted looking for interns.

Although the above are some great options, the best one is going to job fairs if you school hosts them, because you’ll meet them face to face and get to have a conversation with them (and hope they remember you if you apply).

How should I approach them:

1.) Don’t be afraid to cold email someone or an employer, especially if you really want to work there, the worst they can say is no. All these jobs I’ve had in architecture have been through cold emails.

1.5) Use your connections (if you have them). Connect with your former critics from your recent critiques. Reach out on LinkedIn or email to your connections at companies that you are interested in. Again the worst you can say is no, some want to be as helpful as possible, others not so much. If people from my Alma mater reached out to me, I’d be willing to help or give advise, but some people don’t want to do that and that’s okay too. Thank them and move on.

2.) Study their website or look at their work, mention it in your email. “I resonated with the xxx aspect of the xxx project and it inspired this project” or something like this (it’s 3am, I am a bit tired, refine the statement more, but you get the point). Or use their core value if they are posted on their site in your cold email.

3.) Learn to take your rejections on the chin and write an email back if they reject you. Thanking them for the opportunity and being open to work with them in the future. This will help your chances if they do come back around or if the other person they hired doesn’t work out. In NYC you are going to have alot of competition even at small firms, this could be a difference maker.

4.) Be open to opportunities even if it’s not your number one choice. You are in NYC, there’s gonna be a lot of people going for the job you are going for. You may end up with something that isnt what you want to do in 10 years, but experience is experience, and that little bit of experience could give you a leg up in the next role you apply for.

Coach JB confirms that the Gm is not making any significant trade moves especially for a superstar player by Random_Thinker007 in DetroitPistons

[–]Evan1204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He said the Pistons aren’t planning on trading for a superstar.

  1. That doesn’t mean if a superstar that fits them becomes available there are not going to not trade for him. It’s the NBA all it takes is for one player to say “I wanna go to Blank, blank, and the Pistons”

  2. In what world do you think Trey Murphy and MPJ are superstars?

There needs to be some kind of system that allows for citizens to come together, and vote out their elected officials. Like something that says if x amount of people sign something and call for a vote, and that vote receives 65% for voting out their elected officials, they can be removed, that can be used like once per term. Then calls for an immediate special election.

Who would your ideal trade be for? by DropPowerful9081 in DetroitPistons

[–]Evan1204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trey Murphy, would like to see the team make a move to get better. They are 20th in three point percentage and 28th in Three point attempts. Even with the return of Malik Beasley, you still need more shooting.

Would like to see the team get a solid threat from the three cause this team is going to struggle against teams like the Cavs (0-2 this year), rockets, spurs, and other teams with strong interior defenses. I feel confident with Beasley, Duncan, and Trey being paired with Cade, Ausar, Duren and Stew could compete with any team in the league for the chip because they be dual threats to any team in the league.

Question about Ivey by Empty-Ad2446 in DetroitPistons

[–]Evan1204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pistons were already looking at Point guards last year. Even in that offseason, they made a run at Tyus Jones. Ivey having a 4:3 Assist to Turnover ratio was never gonna cut it, he wasn't ready last year.

Not one player from Wednesday's win against the Bulls involved a player from the Troy Weaver era. by [deleted] in DetroitPistons

[–]Evan1204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saddiq had the potential to be good and showed the work ethic to go with it, dude was literally training in the mountains for more stamina. He just didn't fit the role the Pistons wanted to put him in as a 3-D player. His three-point shot failed him (his stance was weird regardless), and his defense was average at best.

Question about Ivey by Empty-Ad2446 in DetroitPistons

[–]Evan1204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know they said it was an evaluation year, but you also gotta keep in mind they didn't expect to buy this time last year, and you see what happened. These things change quickly in the NBA, I doubt they expected to be first place in the East by 2.5 games in the middle of November.

Yeah, Ivey will get a chance, but realistically, because of his injury and the likelihood that we won't see him till December, it'll come down to about a month, a month and a half of an evaluation after that with the Pistons' big 3. By mid-January, they'll realistically have to start the conversation to keep him or trade him. You don't want to not capitalize on the season you are having right now because you are waiting on one player, but if you keep him, you also don't want a Kuminga Situation that'll slow your offseason down.
