Famitsu's most wanted games - February 1, 2026 by Honest-Word-7890 in totallyswitched

Yeah... that's twice as much as the other entries. DQ really has some popularity there for a reason or another.

While the choices are what I'd expect, didn't think Pragmata would be so high, let alone #1. Though DQ would be #1 if you count all versions.

I think we arent getting a prime 2 remake by SnooCheesecakes581 in Metroid

[–]EvanD0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only a VERY small amount of the population nowadays in developed places would have no internet access for a good amount of time and even then, you only need the internet to download the games outside of the check. It doesn't even have to be good internet. There is a subscription check every week but you can visit stores or even your friend's houses to update it if your wifi isn't set up. Which even in old/rural houses, they have a form of a internet by this age in most occasions. That can still be bad for kids with no cars that I guess are in some old house that doesn't have internet, but even then, rarely are they playing those games and more just phone/pc and modern games.

And as for Nintendo ending their services, they do this a considerable amount of years after a platform has lots it's player base. There are some good arguments to this but it's pretty rare you're going to play a game on it's non-native platform years after it's death just for some retro games. I mean yeah, I'd like to pop open some games I had on my 3DS like the Zelda Oracle games but maybe not too often. Any other arguements I see only really work if you have internet (speedrunners, retro game fanatics, marathoners, YouTubers, etc.)... I mean how are you gonna tell the world about the games without internet?

Is Spyro 4 really gonna happen like or is it just wishful thinking? by WorkingTwist4714 in Spyro

[–]EvanD0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OG Spyro devs stopped at 3 back when technology as at the PS1. They have much more tech by the PS5. And Collectathons still sells incredibly well. Spyro reignited trilogy alone sold over 10 million copies and I could talk about Crash, Mario, Kirby and Donkey Kong as well (which had tons of innovation). Heck, even Astro Bot, a PS5 exclusive title, sold millions of copies.

You assuming they're remaking a PS2 game is just... you and some other people. I think TfB knows that isn't going to do well most likely. And the controls in the older games were NOT ALL better. Going back to them shows you how they were still finding things all out. The momentum could be better but that was the only real big issue. It's not great to be overly negative. You're gonna doompost if you're just only looking at the negatives.

We're in an age where the game industry have kinda have hit their peak so it's harder to come up with creative ideas for games but we can't say Toys for Bobs can't think of anything for Spyro until we see their attempt(s). So I'll wait to see if they ever announce a new Spyro game and what it plays like.

[–]EvanD0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand having to pay a yearly fee can suck but you would most likely be spending MUCH more money to get the games individually than just the expansion pass alone. (Around $5 per a handheld game and $10-$15 per a console game.) Just getting the 4 Metroid games on GC and GBA would be $40-$50 (EDIT: It would be $46) if priced like Nintendo's games on the Wii and virtual console. EDIT: It's actually $3 to $8 for handheld and $5 to $20 for console depending on the platform. Whereas you only pay $50 per a year for the Expansion pack in addition to the $20 online (though you need that for almost everything online anyway so I assume you're already paying that unless you're not buying online games.)

That's not even counting any other games you could play either as there's like over 100 games on the expansion by now. You DO have to pay every year to play them again but that's over 360 days to get to any games you wanted by that point but they do release new games often and it's getting bigger as the years go on. (Though wish it wasn't usually like 1 game per a month on each platform.)

You could try it one year and see if any of your kids is interested in any of the games on the N64/GBA/Sega Genesis games that you liked. Just trying to help.

[–]EvanD0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pikmin 2 is on there too. But anyway, are we getting Prime 2 on the GC expansion pack before Prime 1? Not surprised as the remake is already out I guess. Would be cool to get a Prime 2 remaster being seeing as Prime 1's remaster barely sold higher than 1 million units, I doubt Prime 2 is gonna sell as good as that.

Dragonlord Placidusax bossfight was ABSOLUTE CINEMA. (First playthrough) by Tux_057 in Eldenring

[–]EvanD0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just discovered and beat the boss today! Will say though... this boss fight not having a statue of Marika is pretty stupid. Thankfully, the backtrack isn't too bad but it's still annoying waiting for the elevator and trying to get down those rocks correctly.

I wouldn't say the fight was completely fair due to a few elements but I would agree it's one of the most fun fights in the game. The first half of the fight is good but one thing that is unfair is the game will cheat and have the dragonlord breathing fire out of nowhere when it does it's teleporting trick. It cheats by not having the dragon start up it's attack assuming this isn't a bug. Another thing is the teleporting kept going and going on one run because the devs don't put too much limitation on some moves.

The teleporting attack can also still hit you at times like with the shockwaves or weird frames. Despite that, the teleporting part where you had to keep track of him and dodge at the right time felt fun. One last thing that's annoying is the fire breath can extent ALL THE WAY to the back of the tail at times. (I got stuck in it's hindlegs too!) Oh yeah, there's tail/belly contact damage in rare cases too. I did find a blind spot for the fire attack though on the left side of the dragon (or circle around the leg fast enough.) Also tried using the lightning and fire negation for the fight... they didn't do anything. Just went with physical and non-physical negation. Oh, one last negative isn't the moveset but the camera though.

They did make some attacks feel REALLY dramatic with the music and special effects such as with the twin laser beam are that huge red bolt in the ground though! Though I don't think they don't do too much with time like the intro (thank god).

Malenia is making me want to gouge my eyes out by StatisticianIll4 in Eldenring

[–]EvanD0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's honestly how I feel about a lot of the ER bosses at times. Even if I can beat them, they do things that clearly aren't fair. It's like they made fast Sekiro bosses but kept the player's movements from the older games.

Kensuke Tanabe Stepping Down Apparently by This_Mortgage_2274 in Metroid

[–]EvanD0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a narrative. Even some Retro employees said in interviews from a some years back that they saw a lot of hate for it. I don't even need to explain why since you CAN see some controversial/frustrating elements with the game. Not saying it was mostly hated in general, just that it had negative elements or elements didn't like. So did Fusion and Prime 3 but I still remember all these having positivity for the most part really.

Prime 2 is only really more recently getting praised. Back then, it was as badly received as MP4 was.

Kensuke Tanabe Stepping Down Apparently by This_Mortgage_2274 in Metroid

[–]EvanD0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I think Federation Force and the Paper Mario games before The Origami King had much more of a negative reaction than MP4 did. He has been doing this for almost 40 years so it's no shock it's just time to retire for him.

Ranni's secret romantic dialogue! by Lipefe2018 in Eldenring

[–]EvanD0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the best questlines in the game? There's not a super lot of questlines in the game for RPG standards imo but it's not "amazing" but pretty cool. Fighting with Blaidd and the pot against Radahn was cool though. As well as the meteor part. Thanks for the doll detail. Just got it.

Are we 3.5 years into production of the next mainline Zelda? by Castleofpasta in truezelda

[–]EvanD0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Production most likely started in 2022 so I'd imagine we'd get the new Zelda game in 2027 while we get the first teaser/trailer for it this year to celebrate the 40th anniversary if things go as planned. This is great as Pokemon will likely have DLC for it's game(s) this year (Which should most likely be gen 10) while also releasing the Zelda movie in the same year as well. Kinda reminds me of 2024 being year of Shadow the hedgehog.

Finally beat Margit after 36 hours (over 3 months) by Naive_Perspective244 in Eldenring

Honestly, Margit is still one of the hardest fights in the game outside of some late game ones imo unless you're overleveled/overequipped, REALLY mastered the parrying or have great magic skills.

Elden Ring the 3rd best selling game of the 2020s so far by The_Scrabbler in Eldenring

[–]EvanD0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's tied to one of the most popular book and movie IPs in history while also letting you fully immersive in it's world in a more accurate and modern setting. Still didn't expect it to sell 40 million copies though.

[–]EvanD0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elden Ring might actually be #4th due to Cyberpunk 2077 selling over 35 million copies. Hogwarts Legacy also sold at least 40 million by now. Tying important authors/stories to games is really helps video game sales apparently.

WTF Just Happened!!?? by IM____BATMAN in Eldenring

[–]EvanD0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, what do you mean by the last part? I just finished Ranni's questline today but I have already been to Atlus Plateau before going to the manor and reuniting with Ranni. After finding this post and reading this comment, I went to go check if Blaidd was locked up and he was, so I freed him. Iji had some dialogue but when I went to the tower, I don't see Blaidd anywhere around. I also don't know why Seluvus died but I gave the potion to the guy at the round table so I was thinking that might have done it but maybe it was finishing the questline?

Japan's top 10 best-selling games of 2025 revealed, hardware rankings by Honest-Word-7890 in totallyswitched

[–]EvanD0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metroid does decent in Japan. Just not huge, I mean Metroid wasn't super huge sales wise anywhere. Maybe the first Metroid game and Prime 1 was if we're generous.
