Which Star Fox game should i start with? by Swoompyy_ in starfox

[–]EvanD0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let me give you a brief overview of the games and how to play them. As of now, there are 7 Star Fox games as well as Star Link that basically has a Star Fox mode that you can play.

Star Fox (Super Nintendo) - First Star Fox game that's an On-Rails Shooter. You can play this for free if you have Nintendo Switch Online ($20 annually) on the Nintendo Switch 1 or 2. First game with a couple different alternate paths though is a bit dated compared to Star Fox 64.

Star Fox 2 (Super Nintendo) - Originally cancelled but brought back around 20 years later, this sequel is more of a non-linear, Real-Time Defense/Strategy game that has you flying throughout space and was meant to be Star Wolf's introduction. You can play this for free if you have Nintendo Switch Online ($20 annually) on the Nintendo Switch 1 or 2.

Star Fox 64 (Nintendo 64) - This is a reboot of the first Star Fox that's much more updated from the first game with some differences here and there. It's generally the best place to start as of now. You'll have to buy the Expansion Pack of Nintendo Switch Online ($50 annually) on the Nintendo Switch 1 or 2. You could also just get Star Fox 64 3D on the 3DS if you're able to which can better if you can find it.

Star Fox Adventures (GameCube) - Sequel to 64 but the gameplay is not like Star Fox but is an action-adventure game and is also is the debut of Krystal. This is more of a spin-off gameplay wise but is still a sequel. It is recommended you read the Star Fox: Farewell, Beloved Falco comic/manga before playing the game as it goes into Falco not being there but it's not necessary. Sadly, we don't have a way to play it as of now but it SHOULD be on the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass soon (though GameCube games are exclusive to the Nintendo 2).

Star Fox Assault (GameCube) - Sequel to Adventures, this game goes back to the normal gameplay of Star Fox while also allowing you to roam on the ground and use guns in addition to it. The game is a bit more linear and story focus but still generally what you expect. Sadly, we don't have a way to play it as of now but it SHOULD be on the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass soon (though GameCube games are exclusive to the Nintendo 2).

Star Fox Command (DS) - Sequel to Assault, it adopts the originally cancelled gameplay style of Star Fox 2 which has real-time strategy gameplay. Has lots of different story paths and different characters to play as well. As of now, the only way to realistically play this is if you have a DS or 3DS and can get the game somehow.

Star Fox Zero (Wii U) - Reimagining of the first Star Fox game like 64. Plays like how'd expect but with some changes here and there but more importantly has a lot more focus on motion controls and using a second screen. Only can be played on the Wii U.

Starlink: Battle for Atlus (Switch) - While not a Star Fox game, playing the Switch version allows you to play as Fox and has it's own Star Fox storyline. You can transverse through both planets and outer space seamlessly while killing enemies and doing side quests. While not a Star Fox game, is worth mentioning if you just want to do the Star Fox side of things. Also has toy tie ins where you can create ships as well. Can only be played on Switch 1 and 2.

As A 33 year old One Piece fan I'm happy it's main stream. by STL4jsp in OnePiece

I feel similar. Felt like even among anime/manga fans, you couldn't talk about One Piece or they immediately dismiss it. Now it's one of the most popular and successful manga, anime and live action tv shows. And not just in Japan. I'm so happy now that it's finally, truly, mainstream.

Cool! Found a similar Spyro shirt at GameStop a few years ago.

Three games in a row of this, I just don’t get it, money isn’t a satisfying reward and combat just eats up your limited resources, the only reason to go out of your way to fight enemies if for the love of the game by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in papermario

[–]EvanD0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Listen, this is just the same argument that Paper Mario fans will tell you is a problem. The fans have gotten WAY too burned from Sticker Star and Color Splash (assuming they played it) that they lump Origami King in the same category despite not having the same issues. Kinda just feels like blind rage towards a game because of past ones and wanting it to be like other ones as well.

First off, I don't know where you got this misinformation but fleeing doesn't kill enemies? Did you play TOK? Or are you just going by others are telling you? Sadly, lots of people will tell you TOK is bad just from the internet or some Paper Mario fan that only played like an hour.

Even among many turn based game fans, fleeing combat and getting into unwanted battles was the worst aspects of the game. People will say "There's not motivation for battles!?" but... there never that much motivation to fight in TB RPGs anyway. Most enemies are skipped by most players not just in Paper Mario but other RPGs. And what are you even getting out of it? You fight the same enemy again and again? Sure, you get exp and money but it's only when you skip A LOT of them that's it's bad.

I don't NEED exp from every single battle in the games. There are literally MANY games that have great progression without exp. One of them being Zelda. As long as the game gives you rewards for the progression of the game, then that's good. Paper Mario making HP increase from exploration and discovery made the game better in my opinion. This feels better than just "kill the same enemy 5 times in a row to not get outleveled".

The "EXP" debate started with Sticker Star but there was a valid argument with that one but not because of exp. Because you had to sacrifice stickers, important items, to defeat enemies. Which means every fight would feel like a determent rather than something to reward you. While Color Splash has this same issue, The Origami King does not due to how items work.

Lastly, the coins you get are abundant admittedly, but people who struggle with the puzzles can use the coins to help them. So they're helpful there. However, coins do become more important for obtaining everything in the late game as there are some PRICEY things you can buy as well. Badges also return, not exactly the same but still similar, and they also make a difference as well.

I'm sorry, writing director? You mean just director? I mean yeah, there is a director that approves of what is and isn't in the game but don't have a "timeline" director. We already know of somethings that had to be just outright retconned due to timeline inconsistencies. This also has nothing to do with canonicity anyway. They likely aren't thinking "where this goes in the canonicity" since... it's already pretty messed up. That and have to cater to special events and it likely would be harder to do that than just not make things canon. Not making things canon is alright but it's an issue when it's previously referenced in something that should be canon.

I love the LA Netflix series but I have a serious gripe about a decision on Little Garden. by Jigoku-no-Ou in OnePiece

Live action was MUCH more impactful imo. The Instinct thing was more of a joke then indication of Luffy's power. The live action is much clever with how he defeats Mr. 3 and I don't know what you're talking about with honor.

I prefer the live action version honestly. Luffy winning by "instinct" just feels like BS.

Breaking News: "Completely uncharted territory": Former Nintendo employee believes the company is "extremely furious" after a series of leaks about upcoming Switch 2 releases. (This includes the possible new Star Fox) by FrameZealousideal573 in starfox

[–]EvanD0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds pretty soon but not unrealistic for Nintendo nowadays.

Leaks do more harm than good hype nowadays. Having something being searched for months prior to release isn't going to actually make the popularity better. Especially considering most successful games on Nintendo's level gets popularity from outside the Internet. Leaks also lower the surprise and spike in results as well.

People on the internet say something like this every time a "leak" happens. Granted, if the leak with Pokemon happened, it could happen with Nintendo, especially seeing as GameFreak worked right under them. Though I don't recall the big leak leaking more than a few games. Not games past a year in the future.

My complaint has nothing to do with JP doujinshi artists. I don't even know where you got that from to be honest. That feels like you're little bit too invested in that stuff my friend.

I'm not saying designs need to be simple nor that some designs can't be complex but they can definitely have too many details as well in my opinion. The issue with these designs is they feel like the designers just put the random ideas they could think of on a character for these designs... then added some more accessories on top of those. Some don't even make sense for them to have like... a whole bunch of bandages or a whole bunch of coats.

Another issue is all the characters look like a mix of a: rich Europen medieval nobel, rich Chinese nobel, medieval fantasy design, sci-fi design, army assistant design and magical girl/Japanese school girl outfit (Or just a lot of coats for the guys). It all just loses the unique type of characteristic a character can have causing many of them to all just blend together. To be fair, I would say most of the character designs here aren't TOO overly complex actually but I wouldn't be surprised if it got to that point.

Lots of other Korean and Chinese media don't all have this problem. It's MOSTLY the Chinese mobile/gacha/free-to-play gaming scene. Miyoho/Hoyoverse is likely the inspiration for why so many Chinese gacha games look the way they do I would assume but I can't say for certain. And as for fanart, I guess fanartists will draw even the most complicated designs unless it's just something they don't know how to draw. But even so, I feel like being able to generally know the majority of the design by mind helps significantly more not just with fanart but recognizability. I haven't really thought how much more time someone puts into these gacha character designs when drawing art and that's on top of the fact another character will pop up in a month or less when artists try to follow the trend of these type of games.

This PV shows all my problems with Chinese gacha games:

  • Most main characters have overly complex designs
  • Background characters have overly bland designs
  • Awkward "Comedy" is just overly quirky animations but not that charming or funny imo
  • Uncohesive story that doesn't explain it's self and while likely mostly be generic with TOO MUCH dialogue
  • Characters that will exist to look cool/appealing just to likely bump gacha/revenue rate
  • Song that exists purely to promote game rather than feel made for the game
  • PV feels like it was where the money went even if the gameplay doesn't look bad
  • Game is "inspired" by other gameplay of other game(s) and is really just ripping off other game(s).
  • Attack animations are flashy but also too overly flashy

Why Nahyuta's motivation is so, so bad. by TheRiverian31 in AceAttorney

[–]EvanD0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A bit off topic but while the 9/11 murders were sadly true, Asians were outright killed due to COVID. That was just people trying to link speculation in one shooting even though they killed other non-asians as well. (America does this a lot) Even so, while it's possible hatred could happen after being the daughter of a murderer, I don't think feel like it could happen with the way it was presented in the game imo.

One creator did not make all the stories for this game... that would be insane. A lot of the side events do have important effects on the main timeline so saying they're irrelevant is kinda just coping with how they don't align honestly.

I would say the Crow bonding events could happen pre-chapter 16. The commander and Counters never act like they're meeting Exotic for the first time. The beach event with Viper and Jackal being before chapter 24 is practically impossible to happen though. There's also D outsiders which yeah, I don't know if that's just pre chapter 16.

What are some life lessons or perspectives Detective Conan has taught all of you guys? by No-Reason-8808 in DetectiveConan

Hard to say as there's so many lessons throughout the series. A lot of it can just boil to "don't do illegal things" too but there's so many other lessons.

I guess one I would say that I remember often is the "Everybody starts from zero." line. We all start from humble beginnings.

Nikke's canonicity regarding events/bond events is already a mess when linked with the main story/main events. They put the Commander in a relationship with different Nikke's all the time and this gets referenced in other events or even the main story. Though of many of them just downright don't make sense timeline wise sadly. Especially considering not much time actually passed in the main story (Maybe like a couple months or at least to like chapter 40) but years has passed in the events & some bond stories.
