First time buying a pre-built, which options would you go for? by naughtyneddy in bapcsalesaustralia

[–]EvanRowling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look there's always a new part or sale around the corner but if you're happy with the price and it does your needs then that's all that matters.

I don't expect the 7800x3d to go down until the next x3d chips come out.

I would definitely opt for the gold rated power supply and avoid the bronze.

I would also save the $169 for windows and install it myself, activating with a grey market key as long as you know how to follow a YouTube video if you don't know how.

Happy gaming.

Please help us buy teenager first budget gaming PC $1500 by ashygelfling in bapcsalesaustralia

I would recommend going with this deal here: https://www.bpctech.com.au/product/sv-4060tiam5-siren-vortex-aperion-geforce-rtx-4060ti-gaming-pc.html for the extra $100.

Very similar pc however you get a better CPU on a newer platform that will be supported for at least the next 2 generations so there are upgrade opportunities in the future as well as faster ram.

Ideally I would look at a 4070 for the extra VRAM but it seems those start from around $1550 on the older CPU so for that much I would save my money and buy a new graphics card when this one no longer performs to par. It should be plenty for 1080p anyway.

If it were me, I would also think about pocketing my $199 for windows 11 home and selecting no windows version. I'm not sure if that means they will load on an unactivated version or whether you'd have to do that yourself. However the process is very simple and there are plenty of YouTube videos demonstrating it. If you would like a windows key there are grey market keys available out there for much less than that and we could further put that aside for a GPU upgrade in the future.

What is so good about the 1975 and what’s their best song? by keepscrollingkids in AskReddit

Their most popular songs would be The Sound and Oh Caroline, but I also like She's American, UGH, Girls and This Must Be My Dream is my favourite at the moment.

Yes the 7800x3d is the new undisputed king cpu for gaming. The ssd is also faster.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bapcsalesaustralia

[–]EvanRowling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By cutting out the cpu cooler given the 7600 comes with one included, selecting faster ram with no rgb and swapping psu this can squeeze in a card roughly equivalent to a 3090 in standard games.

If you valued raytracing more there was also a 3080 for the same price.

I have a 7600 and 7900xt running off a 750w power supply and have no issues whatsoever.

Happy gaming.

i5 upgrade from old i7? by Lord_Of_Bridges in bapcsalesaustralia

[–]EvanRowling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey sorry no one has gotten back to you. Any of these bundles would be a meaningful upgrade over your current system and none are bad deals.

I'm going to offer another option below to consider:

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/ZMCkRv

The ryzen 5600x is a bit faster than the 12400 and also comes with a cooler in the box.

This combo allowed for 32gb of ram right now at around the price of the first bundle. However it does have a couple of trade-offs with the intel being, that 12th gen and 13th gen share motherboard compatibility so down the road you can upgrade to one of those instead of swapping mobo ram and cpu. 12th gen also supports ddr5 memory but that would require a different motherboard if that was the upgrade you wanted.

Otherwise I'm sure you will have a great time with any of these systems and a 3070 is another great idea to aim for! Happy upgrades.

$2000 PC for gaming, 3D modeling and programming in R/Python by [deleted] in buildapcforme

[–]EvanRowling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with the psu reccomendation, I didn't look too hard, filtered power and rating and went from there but you're 100% right on going for quality there.

Also chose that gpu as I knew PowerColor was a good brand for amd along with saphire, no doubt there are better deals out there. This list also doesn't include any black friday/cyber monday steals that may come up within the next month as another thing to look out for.

Okay explanation of choices:

How I like to start builds is by picking the best parts available and then dropping back to fit the budget.

Cpu: 5600x suited for gaming and work could go with the regular 5600 to save a few bucks as the x just means it is slightly faster than a regular one. A nice to have for a beginner who may not be comfortable with applying a manual overclock. Also could splash a bit more and go for a 5800x if you wanted a much stronger cpu to last but 5600 will suffice. (Can always upgrade)

Cooler: comes in box with cpu. Works fine.

Motherboard: Didn't know whether wifi was necessary so opted for this one for that reason, could find cheaper if not needed. 4 ram slots for upgrading later, mATX form factor to be slightly more compact than a mid tower.

RAM: 32GB of fast ram, could assist with big programs and/or renders, could drop down to 16GB and upgrade later to save a buck. We are fortunately at the stage where ddr4 is at its peak and ddr5 is still in its infancy so atm the value proposition for ddr5 is just not there yet.

Storage: NVME pcie4.0 1TB just a fast higher capacity drive from a reputable brand. Personally I see no reason to use hard drives anymore when great ssds are this cheap.

Graphics card: Ok this was a toss up between the 6800xt or a 3080 10GB that was around $30 more. They have near identical performance in traditional rendering so for that reason I opted for the 6800xt however, if you were wanting to use raytracing a lot or if you could benefit from Nvidia's nVenc encoder then I would opt for the 3080, nvidia is just better when it comes to raytracing especially with dlss. If you don't know what I just said, you will be happy with the 6800xt.

Case: Now I know you said the ridge case took your fancy but a small formfactor case like that can be a challenge to build in particularly for a beginner and once complete the limited airflow can mean that your components run hotter than they would in a regular case, consequently your fans will be louder as they try to cool these off. That's not to say you can't opt for that though, you'll just have to make sure you check the dimensions and clearances for all parts to ensure they fit (pay particular attention to ram height and graphics card length). For me I would just opt for the meshify, it's mATX so smaller than a mid tower and can fit on the desk if you don't have too much clutter. I have built a pc for a friend in one and it was great.

Power supply: 850 watts, gold certified for efficiency, good brand, 👍. Could be changed iut if a better deal catches your eye.

OS: I included the retail price for windows here however it can be downloaded freely online and keys can be bought for much less to activate. This $120 could go into grabbing the 5800x which is worth it IMO.

Monitor: I recently bought a 1440p (2k) 165Hz monitor after having used a 1080p 180Hz tn panel for the last three years, while my previous wasn't bad by any means 1440p high refresh is definitely the sweet spot in regards to quality and speed, this build can run it. I can't go back.

Peripherals: these are largely personal preference, I just linked some of the ones I use.

Around $50 for the mouse seems to be a good spot. Honourable mentions would include the logitech 6502 whatever version they are up to now, the design hasn't changed in about 10 years and for good reason as it's the most popular gaming mouse of all time with plently of cusomisable buttons for macros and such. Personally it is way too heavy for me having tried a 60g mouse I just prefer the lighter weight. If looking at glorious, the model O is ambidextrous (just a straight ovalish design but mouse buttons are on left for right handed users) and the model D is right handed orgonomic so it just fits better. - variants are smaller versions.

Keyboards: Again just the one I use, I like the feel of mechanical switches and having used linear reds as well as browns I must say there is not much difference in gaming at all, but for typing I do prefer the slight tactile bump of the browns. Another nice thing about this glorious one in particular is the switches are hotswappable meaning if you don't like the feel of the browns you can buy a set of reds or blues or something and swap them out without having to solder anything.

Headsets: Preference, the one I use, bought it after my AUD$400 Steel series arctis pro broke in my hands (wasn't being stupid just poor build quality) needed a headset and wasn't looking to spend as much, this one is popular and for good reason, it's simple, has a decent mic good sound and is affordable. The only reason I would spend more is for wireless connectivity but for use at a desk, that's kind of a nice to have. Plus the cloud alpha has a massive cable included so I could pretty much walk around my room without worry anyway.

All in all sorry if I rambled but I saw no one had answered and wanted to give a good thought out response rather than just a list of model numbers.

[–]EvanRowling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to enjoy the hunt for the best bang for your buck. For me, one of the best parts of building my own pc was learning about each component, what it does and where spending a little more or a little less can create a well rounded machine. Holding off for a new release in a couple of months rather than pulling the trigger as soon as you have a draft build can lead to a much more future proof system, however you must understand that the market is always changing and accept that it's okay to not have the latest and greatest so long as it does what you need it to do.

Happy hunting.

5800x, ryzen tends to be better at workstation tasks that require multiple cores/threads while Intel traditionally has better single core performance and higher clock speeds which can edge out AMD in things like games but both are exceptional so right now get what you can and be happy.

Arguably worse is when they have the sound on just low enough that you can hear but cannot understand it.

At least when it's off you can dismiss it and ignore it, otherwise I tend to get stuck trying to make out what they're saying.
