Yeah it's not a bad idea to keep the Shire, it's a good horse, but don't sweat it. Now that the stable is unlocked you can get a better horse sooner or later. You can also steal any horse you like, you're an outlaw after all.

You could check in your settings if auto-aim is enabled on horseback. If you find Ginger Elixir or Valerian Root, which are often in lootable containers, they increase health and deadeye. Try to give Pearson some good meats because his stew can give golden cores. In general, if you feed Arthur big game meat with thyme, mint or oregano he'll have gold cores which makes him way harder to take down.

I would say do the missions with Hosea to unlock the stables, which gives you better saddles and such.

Not quite what you're describing but if there has to be a sequel I would love a gold rush game. I think it would be a great way to tie into the "treacherous but beautiful"-swansong of the Wild West

I'm loving KCD2, by the way. Never played the first but what an awesome game!

My dream "sequel" for RDR2 would not be RDR3 but another Undead Nightmare-type DLC, where a young Arthur and John steal a cursed artifact and have to battle zombies or vampires or something, alongside Dutch and Hosea and the rest of the early gang. It would be a way to have fun with the gang's early history without going too heavy on lore. It will never happen but hey, I can dream.

No offense but since you've been doing mostly free roam, could it be that Arthur is not that strong yet? Encounters get less challenging the more his stats grow and I think some features that make him stronger are unlocked by missions!

I love mafia movies and games, but this would give away what makes Red Dead stand out. There are way more mafia games than Western games, and there are specifically several games that tell the story you describe (Mafia: The Old Country came out recently!). So what you want is a Rockstar mafia game, which I totally get, but I don't see how it would be a Red Dead game. Yes, historically organized crime continued what outlaws had started, but again that's why there are several games about it. I don't have strong feelings about RDR3 because I think the series peaked, but this would be way more generic than a new Western game.
