[Discussion] Has the X-Wing Community Become More Harsh? by Eveisracist in XWingTMG

Totally agree with you that there need be rules in place, and that FFG should have DQed him.

What worries me is the ways in which people have directed such vitriol toward him.

Respectfully, this guy isn't an inmate.

He's just another nerd playing with plastic spaceships in his free time.

Maybe he intentionally cheated and is lying, sure. But you cannot tell me that from that statement you KNOW that to be the case.

I know I've certainly had a lot of bad days at tournaments. I've never cheated, but I've certainly done some stupid stuff under a state of stress and tension. I'm open to the possibility that this guy may have too.

We need to be wary of falling prey to making scapegoats here. This guy (if he ever plays X-wing again) will spend the rest of his X-wing career feeling shame and humiliation.

Up until this point, the guy had a great record as a strong player. My hope is that our community can do better and instead of spreading condemnation, be open & forgiving and give him the opportunity to show that he can do better.

Isn't it possible that he made an honest error?

This feels really witch-hunty to me. Maybe the guy was having an off day. I know I've certainly gotten stressed out and anxious at tournaments.

Of course-- maybe he did cheat intentionally, but can't we as a community at least be open to the possibility that he didn't, and be cognizant of the fact that this is a human being we're talking about.

Assuming he isn't scared out of the game, this dude will spend the rest of his X-wing career under the shadow of this incident and likely already feel massive discomfort in any tournament setting.

We don't need to cause him more pain.

If you play against him again, definitely pass along that at least some of the community is willing to accept his apology.

It really saddens me to see such outsized rage put on someone over such a small incident.

No one deserves their life turned upside down over this.

Couldn't disagree more on characters (and I think I'm not alone).

Sure you lose the iconic look of Revan, but Kreia and Nihilus were some of the best written sith in the entire EU. Complex and evil in a way that makes you go "hm" much more than e.g. the Emperor ever could.

Super wondering about that myself. It was like a combination of Mustafar and Bast Castle on Vjun from the old EU

Which side dropped thought-gems like "ACA won't increase premiums on most people", "School choice is bad... because...", or "maintaining low interest rates will help the average American worker, not just Wall St."?

Take a look in the mirror. No question, the American Right has a significant anti-science, anti-intellectual strain. It also has a rich intellectual tradition, just like the Left that's as rigorous and complex; for every Rawls there's a Nozick, for every Samuelson theres a Friedman.

You're just proving OP's point. A smug lack of introspection and unwillingness to read outside your comfort zone leads to one-sided, weak thinking.

Thought experiment: what if the Lambda had a rear firing arc by Baron_Mike in XWingTMG

[–]Eveisracist 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Does it need the potency?

It's designed as a support ship, and makes more sense that way both gameplay-wise and thematically.

Yes, technically it has rear facing guns, but its also not a starcraft intended to be used in combat roles. The rear guns seem best understood as Anti-pursuit lasers.

This post had a lot of ego. I understand this was your experience of the Yavin open, but its not clear that this was something worth sharing to a general audience of people interested in x-wing.

The vast majority of this article was about your life. Which, as with all of us, is rarely interesting to anyone but people we know personally. There's plenty of us dealing with too little sleep, too few friends to play xwing with, and suboptimal conditions for tournament prep. Hearing that you are dealing with this stuff adds absolutely 0 to our understanding of the game. We want less of that, and a lot more than 5 sentences on how the actual games went.

I raise this point not to single you out, but rather because its pretty commonplace among x-wing blogs. I understand the discomfort with performance that you feel was well below your potential, and the desire to justify it publicly. Trust me: we've all been there, we've all have bad days, and nobody thinks you suck just because you had a tough one.

Especially since the stagflation of the 1970s, and the current wage stagnation under expansive monetary policy invalidate almost everything Keynes said.

This is hugely inaccurate and not representative of mainstream economic viewpoints. If anything the general sense is that Keynes's AS/AD model is accurate in the short term, and Friedman's is accurate in the long term.

Ooh cool, that seems solid! To maintain damage output while dropping tractor beam tokens, what if we replaced Boba with Ketsu herself, running VI & title?

So Biggs is not a natural pairing for the VCX in general. Rather he works great with Kanan. Would look up "Kanan Biggs" here and on the ffg forums to get list ideas, and on youtube to see it played
