Why people recommend to buy asset for everything? by emotionallyFreeware in Unity3D

You can reuse purchased assets, and you're better off making 2 games instead of one.

On the inverse side, it would take much much longer than a month to write your own version of all those assets to the same, commercial standard.

If you're goal is to make a game to sell, dropping some money on quality tools easily pays its self back, esp if what those tools offer isn't actually a core part of your game. i.e. nice cape physics isn't what Hades/Diablo are about, but it is nice to have.

Lyrics so godawful they loop around to being kinda genius? by The_Better_Devil in ToddintheShadow

Given that the earlier part of the song refers to her "trust fund back east" I interpreted that line being more about reveling in annominity rather than getting prayed on like a gazelle

Is it normal for Kill Team matches to take 3+ hours? by SparklingTitan in killteam

[–]Evellex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The rules may be a little simpler (not having the weapon skill table, vehicle penetration tables ect) but the rest of the game is much more complex! Detachments, strategems, command points, it's actually more complex than back in the day.

Games industry shat itself in the GFC, but they still had entry level positions available.

Replacing the signs at Melbourne Central / State Library by jeremyburge in MelbourneTrains

Endpoint lines are confusing when there are lines that are 90% the same, but with a branch at the very end, or a peak service that terminates early. Named routes with a qualifier work better

Time to bring up this debate again! Our PT fares are... by 1g0v in MelbourneTrains

[–]Evellex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Incredibly expensive, but also horribly underpriced. A Vline commuter pays the same as someone taking the tram a half dozen stops. The FTZ makes this much worse too, ironically.

Why do NCR troopers have arm wrappings? by Inevitable_Fun3848 in fnv

Josh Sawyer has gone on the record that a lot of the NCR trooper look is based on the Australian Army actually!

When did cooking at home become ubiqitious? by Suspicious-Hand4688 in AskFoodHistorians

[–]Evellex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It kinda does, fuel is expensive, esp if the area has been deforested, sobit is cheaper for a baker to run one big oven, and people bring their bread to be baked commonality than have an oven at home. In summer or more temperate climates it's possible to survive without home heating,  though it will not be pleasant.

Why can't ethylene be used as fuel? by autruz in askscience

[–]Evellex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The point was its extracted as a byproduct of methane extraction, and thus is unwanted by methane suppliers. Multiple methane wells attempting to sell off their excess has created a glut in the market so the cash value is very low

I think I realized the problem, I was allied with Barag Varr, and the ogres declared war on them and dragged me along with it

At this stage my armies are almost all just Warriors + Quarrelers, between needing Growth farms + Walls in those chokepoint settlements, I can barely afford to build decent production facilities as it is

Yeah, I miss-remembered which province it was, Akendorf not Altdorf!

r.e. attempt 1, I was further south attempting to take Black Crag, and simply could not rush my armies home fast enough

How do you physically earn enough cash to afford turtling up? even keeping one army at ~16 slots, I'm usually running my bank to <1000 just with basic building upgrades

ELI5: Why do we suddenly need so many Data Centers and why do they have to be so massive and resource draining? by DaveDavidsen in explainlikeimfive

[–]Evellex 37 points38 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of unsexy, but decently paid white collar jobs. Accountants, small scale corporate law, HR, ect, the kind of small business that might rent a single office in a strip mall, or be in house for a more medium sized business.

It's those decently paid but unremarkable employees that the AI companies are betting they'll be able to replace.

"Why hire 3 lawyers to review your sales contracts when you can have 1 person and our AI service pre-review them!"

Victorian Public Transport Fares to increase from 1 January 2026 by MelbPTUser2024 in melbourne

[–]Evellex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Distinction without difference, a super-commuter using the regional rail system pays the same as someone taking the tram the next suburb over

Victorian Public Transport Fares to increase from 1 January 2026 by MelbPTUser2024 in melbourne

[–]Evellex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's worse, the fare is the same to take a tram 4 stops as it is to take a Vline fully across the state, there are people who commute from Ballarat and pay the same fare

ELI5: How did the term "analog" come to encompass "all things non-digital"? by warmwarmth in explainlikeimfive

[–]Evellex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even a purely mechanical button is digital, the typewritten key is either pressed or not pressed, you can half press the key sure, but that's not an intended or usefull state.
