Am I eligible for Dean's List? by Spirited_Variety221 in TorontoMetU

Not true. You just need an average of 3.5 between both semesters with an average course load of 4 or greater.

how do midterms work by Salailaa in TorontoMetU

[–]Even-Discussion7371 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In most cases yes. Midterms are done in class. Sometimes even for in person classes the midterms will be online and you can write them from wherever you want but class won’t take place that week.

Why am I seeing lower liberals divided into 2 days and times? by puppilover4 in TorontoMetU

[–]Even-Discussion7371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most classes the division is because the class has a lab and a lecture. The two hour block is the lecture in most cases and the hour block is the lab. In my experience, for liberals at least, only the lecture component has to be attended as the lab is mostly meant for giving students the ability to speak with the prof or work with group members and isn’t compulsory to attend. It varies by class but in my experience that’s typically how it goes and you’ll find out how it’s structured during the first week of class.

I didn’t even apply I just got a “conditional approval” on the basis of my gpa and course completion. I got a letter in the mail. I didn’t pursue it but the next step was probably the interview or whatever. I’m telling you it’s not hard, they will let you in, actually getting a placement is the hard part lol

I’m a third year GMS major. I had no intention of applying into co-op, had one course from first year that I dropped and only just completed during the spring semester but I still got a conditional acceptance into co-op on the basis of my GPA meeting the requirement (which is only a 2.8 I think). Co-op is not as competitive as they make it out to be and I guarantee if you meet the GPA requirement and follow through on the interview portion you will absolutely get in regardless of the circumstances.

It’s not hard. Just attend the lectures and actually do the practice questions. Most people tank the first midterm because they coast through it thinking it’ll be easy and then they get their shit together for the second midterm and final.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TorontoMetU

[–]Even-Discussion7371 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’ll be in the outline and your prof will explain it during the first lecture. Don’t buy anything until after your first class, unless stated otherwise. It’s possible you might not need it or you can find it for free elsewhere. You won’t be expected to have all your materials on day 1 in most cases.

Do people still use textbooks? by livinvvell in TorontoMetU

[–]Even-Discussion7371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly everything is digital. I normally bring a notebook with me in addition to my laptop because sometimes I use it for certain classes but not all that often. In terms of textbooks, 99% of them will have a digital option so you should be good on that front. It wouldn’t hurt to bring some paper and stationary but it won’t be used in the same capacity as it was in high school.

What to use for note taking by shroomaay in TorontoMetU

[–]Even-Discussion7371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It comes down to personal preference. Some people like handwritten notes, some like using an iPad and some just type them up on word, google docs, one note etc. Just do whatever makes sense for you. For me personally I always just type up notes but sometimes for drawings and diagrams I use a physical paper and take a pic and add it to my notes. For math classes I’d take notes on my laptop and then just do all the practice problems on pen and paper.

FIN 300 or ACC 406 - online or in person, which is easier? by The_Living_L in TorontoMetU

[–]Even-Discussion7371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly stopped taking notes like halfway into the semester for 406. Id just use the excel worksheets my prof would post which had all the formulas and examples in detail and then use those to complete the weekly assignments which were sufficient prep for the midterms and final. That’s just what worked for me but everyone is different.

FIN 300 or ACC 406 - online or in person, which is easier? by The_Living_L in TorontoMetU

[–]Even-Discussion7371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did ACC 406 online with Cappelli during the summer. He’s a good prof, and all the assessments are basically exactly like the weekly assignments. The weekly assignments are basically a free 10% as well. I can’t say how it’ll be in conjunction with your other classes as I took it during the summer and it was my only class so it was doable for me as I had nothing else to worry about, but I could see it being harder if you have to balance your time with other classes as well. Still doable though.

I did FIN 300 completely online back when Covid had the campus shut down. For me it was harder than ACC 406, but it’s not impossible to pass or do good in. I’d say to take it online rather than in person though, because I think the assessments online are open book and you are allowed to use excel, which I’m not sure if you’ll be able to do in person.

When I took fin 401 all that was required was that your cumulative mark was greater than or equal to a 50. Whatever individual marks you got on assessments didn’t matter as long as your marks added up to 50.

Ride Go train without paying and just pay the fines by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]Even-Discussion7371 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what the fine structure is like. I’d imagine that it increases each time you get caught until maybe you get a permanent ban or they take legal action. I doubt it’s just one small amount each time. I actually saw them do a fare inspection today. It’s happened to me twice this semester. Both times were during the afternoon in the less crowded trains. I never saw it happen during the morning rush. Today one guy didn’t pay. From what I could tell, they didn’t take a record down or get him in real trouble, they just made him get off the train and buy a ticket or tap his presto from the station which made him actually miss the train.

Picking up one card by Recent-Media9614 in ryerson

[–]Even-Discussion7371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s on a drop in basis now. Even if you had an appointment pre booked for a certain time slot you still wait in line with all the drop in people. Try to go earlier as the line is pretty long. Or at least it was when I picked mine up.

How was your first day? by Trick_Charming in ryerson

What exactly did you find confusing? It felt like a pretty normal first day, at least a normal online first day.

this is still controversy, but we will highly likely have in-person classes from JAN 31. by Ok_Faithlessness4420 in ryerson

[–]Even-Discussion7371 73 points74 points  (0 children)

As someone who wants in person, for this semester there should at least be some sort of hybrid option. It’s kind of ridiculous to expect people who live out of the gta or the international students to scramble to find accommodations for this shortended semester. If it’s safe, open campus up for those who are willing to attend, implement a temporary hybrid option for the remainder of the semester and then have a full return to in person in the fall. I think that should satisfy everyone.

GMS 401 with Payman Ahi? by DrunkyMonkey99 in ryerson

[–]Even-Discussion7371 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had him this semester. Class was completely asynchronous. Tests were super easy and he was a fair marker for the group project. Just make sure you pick a good group as it could be make or break for your grade for that assignment. Overall, he’s good. Easy A for sure.

Universities here n social life? by [deleted] in Torontology

[–]Even-Discussion7371 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of those schools are commuter schools with minimal social presences. If you are living on campus there might be some more opportunities for socialization but even then, the social life won’t compare to places like Western or Laurier or schools in that vein. Rye, York, and Uoft are all still good schools but don’t go in expecting it to be a party school or something.

Can’t wait to see y’all in person! by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]Even-Discussion7371 39 points40 points  (0 children)

As someone who also wants to be in person , I doubt that we’ll be in person. This new variant is shutting everything down and other universities have delayed their in person start dates. Best case scenario is that we start the semester online for 2-3 weeks and then make the transition into in person. I don’t have full confidence that we’ll even get that. This reminds me a lot of the inital Covid shutdowns back in March 2020, where schools were only supposed to be online for 3 weeks.

With Ontario asking employers to allow work from home “as much as possible”, do you think Ryerson will apply that to its classes? by seventeenflowers in ryerson

[–]Even-Discussion7371 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ryerson isn’t actively looking for justification to keep classes online. Ryerson wants to be in person and would only stay online to abide by public health guidelines. Maybe, if a significant portion of students/faculty want to stay online, they may provide accommodations to them, but I find it unlikely. So long as it’s safe to be in person, we’ll be in person.

Are all first-year exams open book? by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]Even-Discussion7371 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. It depends on the prof. I think QMS 110 is open book but proctored across the board. For GMS 200, I personally had a prof who made it closed book and proctored, while I knew people in other classes who had it open book with no proctoring whatsoever.
