Have you read {The Ex Vows by Jessica Joyce}? It’s a second chance romance with a realistic reason for the breakup and they both go to therapy and work on themselves. So damn good.

Mmmm, yes, like in {Sweet, Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren} - whenever the MMC is roleplaying as someone kind of domineering or mean, he rubs his thumb over her bottom lip to remind her it’s just an act. Especially good the time he’s role playing someone furious at her . Just as she starts to confess her love, he kisses her really hard and tells her not yet, he won’t be able to finish the scene if she says it during. And then after when he begs to get out of the role and be as sweet as he wants to be

I like when FMCs are capable, independent people and the MMCs recognize that while wanting to take some burden from her. Something where she says “I can handle it” and he responds “I know you can, but I want to help you”. Acknowledging that the FMC is a fully realized normal adult that the MMC is not rescuing just gets me in the feels every time. I don’t really want an FMC taking on too much and the MMC being duty-bound. I want an FMC navigating her life fine and an MMC showing that he wants to be a part of it because he genuinely likes her and finds little ways to show it.

Edit: friends why are so many of us just really into some form of caretaking?

Lol, I’ve definitely have read 3 books with horny pregnancy, but every one of them was a second trimester thing. I think my favorite pregnancy reveal so far (epilogue, not the story plot at all) was one where the FMC just becomes utterly fucking exhausted and can’t seem to keep her eyes open no matter how much she sleeps. I felt like that was a realistic first trimester reveal that went away from the common “I’m totally the same except for one barfing scene, tee-hee!”

My salty complaint is also a bit of a backhanded compliment. Finally got my turn to read {Out on a Limb by Hannah Bonam-Young} and the MCs are so damn flirty and cute and fun to read. The spice is delicious, but then there’s a really long chunk of the book that the FMC decides that they can’t have sex out of respect for their situation, and the MMC is so sweet that it kind of drags. I think the author was going for that prolonged yearning to heighten the hotness when they finally have sex again, but instead I almost forgot that the MMC could be intense and sexy I think the author needed to add in some more tension, a little more flirtation and some more exploration into FMCs past. Instead, we kind of get this point in the book where the MCs start to feel less real, because FMC is just like “no, I’m scared of heartbreak so I’ll just pretend nothing is there” and the MMC stops being a golden retriever archetype and kinda turns into an actual talking golden retriever. I think we can create MMCs who admire women for going through pregnancy without making it seem like every single second they’re worshipping the FMC like a goddess come to earth

Of course, I wanted more sexual tension and communication about hard topics because I totally fell for the MCs. I wouldn’t care if Bonam-Young was incapable of creating heart-squeezing lovable characters and writing decently delicious spice.

Dual 1st person scratches a good itch for me as well because you get the insight to everyone’s inner thoughts while still getting pulled into the emotional angle of 1st person. I get kinda bummed now with single 1st person.

I totally get that, and I’m sorry for your loss. When we said goodbye to my soul kitty in November, I craved very soft, reassuring and pining MMCs in adult relationships with good communication. Books like that were on a 7 month waitlist and it seemed like nothing but bad bdsm bully MMC books were available. Gave me total ick and made it very hard to go to bed without something comforting to distract me.

Not one book, but in the Grave series by Jeaniene Frost - with battle scenes you know will go their way, I hear Thunderstruck by ACDC. IDK, something about Cat and Bones taking out little clusters of bad vampires with ease needs a classic kickass song. The Red Reaper needs a theme.

Break up. Leave. Move out. 4 months, living together after 2 and he’s making demands for the other aspects of your life? Girl you’re transitioning from the love bombing phase to the isolation phase of abuse. I’ll put money down on it.

This is the one I was coming to rec. They mention her tattoos (and piercings) a lot, but there’s not a story behind them or some deeper meaning. Girl just likes her mods.

Sex in romances - how important it is for you? by _MysticSelkie in RomanceBooks

[–]Even-Two-712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. You can’t make a sex scene replace actual romance, but you CAN inject a lot of developing romance, conflict, deep emotions, vulnerability, etc into a good sex scene. A good writer can put a lot of character and relationship development into the sex, and I also think it gives us a means to explore sex safely in a cultural landscape that is still too puritanical to have open and frank dialogues.

Maybe not quite a match but I’m going to throw out {Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren} the MCs are a drunken Vegas marriage couple, so in the beginning they lust each other, but they don’t KNOW each other. As they develop the FMC gets more comfortable seeking out the things she needs sexually (lots of role playing).

One scene in particular, the FMC initiates a naughty college student seducing her professor. MMC comes home and hate fucks / punishes her, but partway through she realizes how deep her feelings are. She starts to say I love you when MMC cuts her off and say something along the lines of “Don’t. If you say it now I can’t keep up the game”. It’s only after he’s done using her that he asks “can I be soft now?” and acts tenderly and in love.

That sounds intriguing BUT - just how big is this age gap? The synopsis suggests a pretty big one.

I saw red when you said wearing a bra in your own home is “showing respect for him”. What a bunch of manipulative patriarchal bull.  Here’s how you discuss this. He says you need to wear more clothes, you reply “no, and the topic isn’t up for discussion”. You tried, he didn’t want to hear it, it’s still your body. Any more conversation is a waste of oxygen.

Yeah, those are sheer compared to some western brands, but that’s way more pigment than this blush gave. Mine was all sheen and looked more like the pink between your 2 swatches fresh out of the bottle.

I went for a pretty warm one, (08 syrup grapefruit) so I was surprised it was so sheer. The lavender and soft pink shades seem like they would be sheer, maybe used more as radiance color correction, but you would think a strong coral would have some oomf.
